Can you trade your contract with someone else.

Would it be possible to trade a AKV for say OKW with someone without having to sell the contracts?

You could make and trade reservations, but a true trade of the actual contracts would require a change of the deeds, needing to be recorded with the county as well as a change within the DVC system.

Such a trade would still need to pass ROFR (although it would likely pass without problem).

You can agree to transfer your full ownership interest to another and they can, in return, transfer theirs to yours. You would have to do it as a real estate transaction, with a closing, creation of new deeds, pay real estate transfer taxes and other closing costs. (Note, you cannot do it if either is mortgaged without paying off the mortgage first.) Because it is a transfer where both are receiving something valuable, it would be considered a sale by each side (you do not need to transfer money for there to legally be a sale). Disney would have right of first refusal although it is unclear how it could excercise that right if it chose to do so -- it could possibly insist upon an appraisal of both interests and then buy one or both for amount set by the appraiser.

We're in the process of selling some of our contracts to change from a FEB to AUG UY. Boy don't I wish there was a forum to find someone wanting to trade as it would be less expensive than selling and repurchasing.

Great thanks so much. My friend has a contract at BCV and his coworker has AKV and they both like the others resorts and wanted to know if they could switch. I will pass the info along.

Thanks.

Same here! I would trade two SSR contracts with AUG UYs in a heartbeat, even if it would cost me a few hundred dollars to do so. I still want the resort, the points, but different UY.

It would still be a sale and repurchase, but you wouldn't have any sales commissions. There would still be all the legal fees (closing costs) involved for the two contracts. You would work directly with a closing company rather than a resale broker.

The only difference would be the commissions if you go through a broker and the fact that some contracts are inherently more or less valuable than others due to home resort, lead time to UY, and number of points (both current and contract size). Smaller contracts invariably go for more per point as do certain home resorts, esp BCV. My experience talking to people about this issue is the same as trading cars, that most want to over value what they have and under value what you have. In the end, the $$$ you'd save are relatively few and not worth the aggravations involved in most cases. I have done one direct trade of a different timeshare for a DVC contract that worked out well for both of us but we still had to go through ROFR and a full closing with the DVC portion. The non DVC portion was a RTU so only a paper to complete and a transfer fee so we just split the total costs between us and each paid the average.

It would have been nice to save the commissions as I was looking for the same resort as I currently own and same contract size just in a different UY. I realize we still would have closing cost and recording fees.

Luckily our contracts are100/60/60 SSR points so we decided to sale the two 60 point contracts when we added on 100 at AKV. One sold within two days. I'm glad we purchased small contracts so we can add or sale as our needs change over the years.

Finding someone with the reverse who also wants to go through the hassle and pay the fees to do so would be the proverbial needle in a haystack.
