Can you tell me about Cracker Barrel restaurant?

I know I've read on this board how other people like these restaurants but I have never been to one. Well, just yesterday I saw them building one in our area! (For those of you in MA - it's right near the Wrentham Outlets off rt. 495...they are also putting in a Dunkin Donuts and an Uno's)

What are they like? What do they serve? Why do you like them??

Well if you are into Southern-style, gravy laden food then it will be right up your alley.

It is just not my cup of tea. But they do have a cute little gift shop.

We went to the one in Derry, N.H. a couple months ago.
We will never... Ever... Ever eat there again.
It was by far the worst food we've ever had. It seemed like it was all frozen food.
I heard the breakfasts are good, but I can't vouch for that.

We started joking about it the minute we walked out. The service was horrible, the food was horrible... Just a bad experience from beginning to end.
And I'm not one who complains about restaurants much. I'm not very picky.

I like them. There's none close to us so we like to stop on the way down to Fl and back. It's basic home cooking food, really. American food, sandwiches, meat loaf, chicken and dumplings. Grits, yum, I love grits. Great biscuits and apple butter. And you can have them leave the gravy off.

It's just different for us, that's all.

they have the best chicken fried chicken in the world!!! it is so good. me and my mom like to share the apple dumplings (warm) with their home-made vanilla ice cream and the gift shop is too cute. they have tons of old toys that came out in earlier years. and sock monkeys too (my favorite) they also make really good breakfast. all in all i love this restaurant. they food is always good and the service, and environment of it is always good.
you are lucky to be getting one in your area. the closest one to us is an hour away!!

Not everything they serve has gravy. Their hamburgers, chicken strips, hashbrown casserole and salads are wonderful.

I like the oatmeal, biscuits with apple butter, the bowl of beans with cornbread, and the chicken and dumplings with baby carrots and fried apples. DH likes the baked breakfast but it is way too huge for me. Their eggs are usually fluffy like I like too.

I enjoy their breakfasts. I always order "Eggs in a basket". I ate dinner there once and wasn't very impressed.

I like them, my husband does not.

I pretty much have two things that I really love on their menu and a lot of other things that are good.

Their salads are great, and for breakfast I love the Pecan Pancakes.

DH loves most of their foods (and no he is not southern, he is from Detroit). I like some of their food. The dumplings and hasnbrown casserole are very good. They also make a very good burger. The chicken tenders are chicken fried chicken, and chicken fried steak are good too (with or without the gravy). Mom likes the meatloaf. My aunt loves their chicken pot pie.

I usually get chicken and dumplings, fried apples and a House salad. If I plan on ordering the chocolate cobbler for dessert I'll get green beans or carrots in place of the apples.

The desserts are very good. They serve a variety of vegetables, which isn't common in most chain restaurants.

all i have ever had was there breakfast and i thought it was great, the service was great, and the prices for breakfast was very reasonable.

DH likes the different southern foods
they have catfish, okra, & collard greens
they give you biscuits and muffins when you sit down
I had there pot roast the other week and it was really good
like homemade except it was fattier than mine would have been
give it a chance you might find you like it
when I used to eat lots of carbs their hashbrown casserole was one of my favorites plus the chicken with cheese and hashbrowns on it

My favorite is chicken fried steak w/mashed potatoes and gravy (white w/pepper). It's all I have when I go.
My kids usually get chicken tenders or breakfast (served all day).
Salads are really good. Breaded shrimp was good too.
