Can you tell me about Cracker Barrel restaurant?

1 word: Biscuits. (as if to say: they are the BEST biscuits anywhere)
My boyfriend and I practically live their on our way to/from Florida. A few months ago we discovered on within 45 minutes and love going there. It's a great place to eat.

You know what? I've discovered that all Cracker Barrels are NOT created equal...

The one by our house here in Memphis is absolutely wretched. The one twenty minutes away in Southhaven, and the one near my parents in Alabama is absolutely wonderful. As a rule, the ones I've eaten at on vacation out west or up north are just not as good as the ones here at home. Perhaps it is because the food is indigenous to my area, and the cooks they hire here are just better at biscuits and gravy and chicken and dumplins than the people they hire in, oh, I don't know, New Jersey?

Cracker Barrel is so popular in these parts that they are building another one close by! Now I'll have two within about 5 miles of each other!

Part of the fun of eating at CB is waiting for your table in the gift shop!

Gourmet it's not, but it isn't trying to be either! Eating there is like eating at an old friend's house in the country.

Honey chile...they have the best pancakes-especially the PECAN Pancakes- you will ever eat. I prefer this place at breakfast- and the gift shop is adorable!

When traveling we usually stop at a Cracker Barrel, we haven't had a bad meal yet. DH and I ate lunch at the Junction City location last week. The bill was $15. We don't order sodas when we eat out. Just drink water with lemon. I like to take DD there. All she ever orders is a biscuit and an egg which usually runs $1.99. I don't think it's an expensive restaurant at all. The best gift shop I ever went to was the one in Hilton Head. Picked up some great lighthouse stuff and a nice t-shirt.

I've tried cracker barrel on two occasions and I will never ever go back. The first time was bad but I thought it might have been what I ordered but the second time was just as bad. The service was good, restaurant was clean and etc but the food is nasty. There are many soul food and southern food joints around my city that are much, much better than CB, DH and I frequent those on a regular basis. To each his own I guess.

Their coffee is delicious.:) I love their green beans and their hashbrown casserole. When they have chicken and rice, it's my favorite dish, but they don't serve it on a daily basis. Their b'fast is good too. I don't like their bacon too much though. If you have room for dessert, their caramel sundaes are good. I love their nostalgia store too.:)

Southern food in New York(noticed you were from there)? Eww. I wouldn't even want to try that, lol.

We love Cracker Barrel! Country-fried steak with hashbrown casserole, macaroni and cheese, and fried okra, chased with plenty of sweet tea, is good eatin'! Most of my cutest Christmas decorations came from their store, and the service has always been incredibly friendly. Try the one in Santee, SC off I-95! :)

They have just broken ground for one about five minutes from my house. Once it's open, I just may never cook again..LOL! We love their vegetables.

MsScott, which one do you not like? My daughter lives in Germantown and we had a great meal at the one down from her. I know you usually don't answer my questions, but I'd really like to know which one in the area is that bad.

Thanks!

lol believe me, it's good! The resturants are mostly owned and operated by southerners, mom and pop joints, good home cooking. The soul food places are hot too, yum. The one DH and I frequent is ran by a sweet woman named Mae, from North Cackalacki :) We all call her "ma" though.

Over priced and not enough food, not hot, and very bland=there i said it.:o
