OK, I want to take a Disney Cruise in October 2nd (4 nights). If I use my points it will cost me 288 points for the 4 of us (2 adults and 2 kids). If I pay cash, it will cost me about $1,950 (I will get the $50 onboard credit "special"). I had 250 UY September 05. I have already borrowed 133 to go to BWV in May and that will leave me with 117 points that I can borrow from 2005. Can I do this?

Borrow the 117 points from September 2005, and rent them out for $10.

How to I start the renting process?

How and When would I get paid?

If I do it this way I will be saving about $900+. I will use the $1170 towards the cruise and my pocket will do the rest.

Does this makes sence? ..... Is it worth the hassle? How difficult it it?

Help! Point me in the right direction, please. :confused3

Renting out points is a purely personal deal and you and the person renting from you establish the guidelines. You can ask for a non-refundable lump sum payment as soon as you send them the confirmation.

Take a look at the Rent/Trade Board. You can either advertise that you have points avaialable and will try to book reservations that people want or you can book a particular reservation and then offer that for rental -- something like December 1-4 in a studio at VWL.

You also set your asking price. If you find you haven't rented your points, you may have to come down on your original price.

I'm pretty sure borrowed points can't be transferred directly to a member (the easiest transaction). You'll have to book and sell an actual reservation.

If you get someone who is easy to work with and the reservation is readily available, it's not much work at all. If you run into bumps in the road it can become a bit of a hassle.

Keep in mind that borrowed points will expire at the end of the Use Year. This could come into play if your renters need to cancel and ask you to re-book a trip for them in the future.

Good luck.

Just rent for stays after your use year starts and you won't have to worry about it. That way if something happens you'll have more options and more protections.
