Can you pre-cut cabbage ahead of time?

I'm making a cabbage/bacon/onion dish for a picnic tomorrow. (Found recipe on Pinterest) I'd like to prepare as much of it as I can today. So I was thinking of cutting everything today so all I have to do tomorrow is throw everything in the pan and cook it up before putting it in the crock pot.

Or should I wait and cut everything up right before cooking it?

I've cut cabbage ahead of time and kept it in a bowl of water. I then drain it and spin in a salad spinner.

I would think so. They do sell those pre-cut "slaw kits" at the grocery store, which is essentially just cut up cabbage & carrots. This would seem to be the same kind of deal, so I say go for it :)

I love that recipe! I do something very similar. I also do the same thing with Brussels sprouts!

I was thinking of maybe adding keilbasa to it. Should I? There will be plenty of things at this BBQ (burgers, hot dogs, sweet sour keilbasa, ziti, potato salad, mac salad, etc) Everyone is bringing a dish.

I've never made this dish before but really want to try it out. I'd make it for home but I'm the only one who likes cabbage. Just wondering if I should leave the recipe as is or add the keilbasa?

I assume I can put this in a crock pot once it's done cooking to keep it hot during the day today, right?

I've used those kits for soups and dishes. Cuts the prep work down. Love them!
