The Official VILLAS at DISNEYLAND HOTEL (Discovery Tower) Owners and Fans Info Thread

100% agree. They both have so many pros. I had to do a split stay this month because plans changed after booking and do you think my WTL confirmed at VGC to stay in the same room for all the nights? Absolutely not. 😂

We walked our own luggage over to VDH and it was a breeze. Then got to take the monorail into the park and back which is another pro you don't get to do much when staying at VGC.
Our first split stay is coming up in February. Just in time to morn the loss of EE and the PP Gate :( . VDH is great. However during our stay, the monorail was down, so the walk at the end of the day was a killer. We are not as young was we once were! The views at VDH can be hit or miss as well. Some views are pretty industrial. The path from the lobby to the DVC Tower is also pretty serpentine when the pool gates are closed. Dont really understand why they did that! Paying the TOT at the end of the stay is also not pleasant. Our only problem was we valet parked the first day, then self parked the rest of the time. We were charged valet for the entire stay. A quick call cleared it up. I also had to call to get a copy of our bill and charges. At WDW I get an email the night before with the bill attached.

We will probably drive our luggage between the resorts as we always rent a car. Cannot wait for February to get here!

DW and I were just talking this weekend about how we like both VDH and VGC for different reasons.

VGC
Craftsman style rooms are a wonderful relaxing atmosphere after a long day at the parks

I agree up until this point –– the non-renovated rooms are at or below Motel 6 standards.

That is just not factually correct.
I have only stayed in a Motel 6 once and that was a couple decades ago at least. Unless something has drastically changed with that chain, the oldest, most beat up room at VGC is more spacious and luxurious than a Motel 6 room. 🤷

This feels like a dumb question. I’m in a Duo studio. I have no paper towels…it should right? I saw photos of the Poly Duo and they had paper towels right near the microwave. I do not ☹️ 😂

They seem to forget at times. Yes..for the Duo you can request paper towels and even a dish sponge and soap if that’s not there either. Check area with the dishes & utensils. Housekeeping has been great on those needs. (A laundry card & soap have been provided in the tower lobby).

why not call the lobby and ask? I found the desk clerks to be very helpful and friendly.
Super helpful thanks.

We all know the community here often knows more than Disney itself on Dvc matters. It seems the consensus is yes at poly but perhaps not at vdh. My room key isn’t working reliably on my phone so I need to stop by the front desk anyways.

Back from our first stay, it was a short notice Welcome home stay so we stayed in a 2BR rather than a 1BR but I could get lost in there! we are going back in January and bringing a grandma.

DS8 had his own bathroom and all three kids had their own bed.

we had fantasia theming and overlooked the pool/neighborhood.

went for the runDisney races. I will say the palm breeze bar was understaffed when we tried to get food at 8p Friday. They had plenty of available table space but wouldn't set places until they had servers available, we waited about 25 minutes to get in on a walk up, so not horrendous but just odd to look at open tables and be told it was a 25 minute wait. Same deal outside at Tiki, half dozen open tables on patio, told hour wait.

I loved taking the monorail after the half marathon into the park. I didn't love that the monorail wasn't running in the afternoon when I wanted to come back for a nap.

When we go in January I think we'll plan ahead on breakfast but I appreciated the breakfast in the room option.
