Can you make multiple ADR's for same meal?

Does anyone know if they allow you to make multiple ADRs for the same meal on the same day? My BIL and SIL are taking their family to Disney for the first time this fall. We were discussing the ADR system today and I was explaining to my SIL that you need to determine what park you will be at each day before you plan your meals. My BIL stated that someone at work told him that they make at least 2 ADR's for each meal so depending on what park they end up at that day, they have a place to have a sit-down meal. I can't believe Disney would permit this. It's hard enough for many people to get ADRs as it is, so if people are reserving spots at 2 or more restaurants for each meal but only actually going to one, they are taking away valuable spots from others. Does anyone know if this is actually allowed?

People can do this by using 2 different telephone numbers when they make the reservations but IMO it's a very rude thing to do. With ADR's so difficult to get, by making 2, people are taking the opportunity away from someone else to have that reservation. It's like eating the whole plate of cookies and not leaving any for your little brother.

Try & make 2 different ADRs for the same meal & there's more than a 50/50 chance that one will be "wiped out" without your knowledge. Tell your BIL that.

Yes it is possible if you use two names and phone numbers, but I would never do that, and I would never tell your BIL you could. It's inconsiderate and unfair to other people who are trying to make ADRs.

CAN you do this-yes,if you use two names and phone numbers and don't try to make the multiple reservations on the same phone call.

SHOULD you do this-well,as Mr Cricket says,"Always let your conscience be your guide!"

Why not subscribe to a good touring plan website, go by the best parks for those dates and finalize plans? That's what we are doing. You can always call later (closer to date) when many people also call and cancel/change and change your plans. I agree it is unfair to other customers to tie up ADRs because your BIL just wants choices.

I would never do this either. We are all in the same boat, trying to figure out our plans and were we will be to eat. If I could figure it out anyone can.:rotfl2:

I will tell you that when I made my ADRs I had to change a ressie and after I double booked (before cancelling out the other ressie) she said something to me that I already had a reservation for that day. The CM said that Disney is really cracking down and cleaning up double ressies. I am sure there are unhanded ways around it. But I believe in Karma!! What would happen if we all did that??????:sad2:

I do have a suggestion that use. Pick a restaurant that gives you flexability. Like a restaurant off the monorail system. That at least leaves you open for Magic Kindgom and Epcot for flexiblity. You can also eat towards the right side of the Epcot so you can use the walkway to MGM boats. Thats gives you flexibility for Epcot and MGM. I am sure you get what I mean. Then you can just hope for good weather, because of your good Karma you will be rewarded!!!:woohoo:

My parents are going in the end of april and they asked me to do their dining reservations the other day. The CM I spoke to wanted the reservation number and not the phone number to do the ADRs. He told me they are suppose to do it by reservation number now and not by phone number. So I'm guessing it depends on the CM you get on the phone.

You cna get away with it, but I agree with the others in this thread who say it's rude and inconsiderate to tie up spaces at a restaurant when it's so darn hard to get ADRs these days.

However, your BIL probably just doesn't understand the difficulties and is trying to tour with the "seat of the pants" style. He seems to want to have an unstructured vacation without touring plans and reservations, so he can just go where he feels like going each day.

This is not a bad thing; it's a natural response that many people have when vacationing. I'm exactly the same way! I really don't like planning which park I'll be in on what day, and making reservations at restaurants for my entire trip. It sucks the sponaneity out of a vacation, and spontaneity is part of the fun for me.

But I have learned that if you want to have a successful and enjoyable WDW vacation, there are certain things that you CAN'T do seat of the pants, and the main one is dining. as crowded as the WDW restaurants are these days, you can't go without ADRs. But making multiple ADRs to hedge your bets against a sudden mood swing blocks others out who are trying to plan their own trips.

It's kinda like getting into the 10-items line at the store with 30 items. Hey, you're not breaking any laws, and you're not hurting anybody - but you're being rude to the people behind you in line who are waiting to get to the cashier themselves.

So explain to your BIL that it's not possible (because Disney tracks your ADRs and wipes out dupes), and it's also rude. Leave out the part where it's possible if you use two different names and phone numbers; that's cheating, IMHO.

Not so. The ADR system continues to be available to off-site Guests, as well, and off-site Guests don't have reservation numbers, so their ADRs go by phone number.

On-site Guests only have to give their reservation number in order to qualify for the 180+10 ADR perk.

As others have said, it is rude and a no-no.Disney Dining is now hip to this scheme and have been known to cancel adrs...my neighbor found this out the hard way this past December...When you do this ,it keeps people who may really want to eat at a particular restaurant from getting a ressie...I don't advise it..:goodvibes

I heard that they were going to start doing that. I just met someone too that said their double ADRs where wiped out and they were left with the one of the two ressies.

Thanks so much for the replies. I'm glad to hear that it sounds like Disney is cracking down on this and maybe some of the people who are doing this are getting their reservations cancelled - big surprise to them when they show up at one of their two places and don't have a reservation!

I was shocked when he told me about this but then again, it doesn't suprise me because they are very self-centered people and wouldn't probably care less that it affected others. I plan to tell my SIL that multiple ADRs will get wiped out by the system and they better play it safe and just make one per meal.

It really is a shame that some people are so self-centered. I guess it's along the same lines as people who try to cut you in line at an attraction just so they don't have to wait an extra few minutes. I had this happen to me at the supermarket recently. The woman trying to get in front of me started pushing her shopping cart into me, and yelling at me. The manager was right there (which she did not see) and he saw the whole thing. She insisted to me that the manager did not see anything and I can't prove anything. He told her that he saw everything and took me to a separate cash register, opened it up and rang up my order right away, apologizing to me and he also said he hoped that did not stop me from shopping there. Well, it didn't stop me from going back of course, and I thanked him. Some people are so rude.

I am not picturing this woman making ADRs at every WDW restaurant for all 3 meals....may sound excessive, but wow, that was a nice vent!

Seriously, just make one ADR. Tell relatives that they cancel without telling you if you double or triple the ressies. THey will probably rant about how they can't do that, but just let it pass and play the Mickey Mouse Club theme song in your head until they finish rambling!

Take care and enjoy!

I have also found that if you make a dinner reservation at one of the resorts it doesnt matter what park you are in that day and the food is generally superior to that in the parks(maybe with Epcot as an exception)

We stay in SOG so the reservation number would mean nothing since we dont' have a WDW reservation. I would never, ever double book. So unfair to those that try to book and can't get something because of others double booking. I'm a big one for justice and have a very difficult time thinking that others would do that, but I know some people think they are entitled and more important than everyone else. The bigger problem is these same people who do this are raising a generation of kids that think that's A-OK. These of course are the same people who try to justify their actions by saying everyone breaks rules, yada, yada, yada. I'm personally offended by anyone doing "whatever it takes" to get what they want.:teacher:

Suppose you don't have a reservation yet, or you are staying offsite, or you are a local? I can't believe they'd limit reservations to people staying onsite.

They would probably ask for a number if you are booking early because you're an onsite guest.

I am not one to double book and then not show but right now I have two ADR's for the same meal while I try to figure out which one I want. I am almost 60 days from my trip and have cancelled several extra ADR's and have never heard about one ADR being bumped out of the system (ie. cancelled) because you have two. I agree it is worng to book two and not to show but with ADR's being as hard to get as they are I don't feel too bad about getting two and cancelling the one I don't want by 45 days out (which is my personal time line to have things planned by)but maybe I am in the wrong. :confused3

Well I'm sure the person who is calling every day, making a long distance call, waiting for you to cancel one of the two you have for the same meal so that they have a chance of getting in would consider it wrong. Also Disney thinks its wrong which is why they have started cancelling the duplicates if they figure it out (and there have been plenty of posts out here from people saying it's happened recently).

I don't like making my plans 180 days out any more than the next person but it is the way it is and I play nice. I don't think I'm more entitled than anyone else so I only make one ADR per meal and if I decide to change it, I replace one with another but I don't hold onto two because that's cheating a fellow Disney lover.

I think Disney is on to this type of planning. From my short time on the DIS I've found CMs who are active here as well as those who lurk.

Some discussions in the DDP forum have alluded to the fact that the recent 2008 changes to the plan may be due to comments made on forums like the DIS. Evidently there was a lot of kvetching (complaining) that the DDP is just waaaaayyyy too much food, that full-size items shouldn't be snacks, etc.

I'm sure Disney is cracking down on double/triple booked ADRs. There will always be a way around it until Disney says they've had it and institute some level of control. Then they'll probably imbed a chip in our head and just scan us on the way in/out. (haha)

I would never think to double book, but then again I'm a crazy planner. I know that in many restaurants around the country they ask for a CC and will charge a 'no show' fee. I know Disney does this for some of its restaurants. That would be a big pain if they did that for all of them. But, I can see that happening. Probably less invasive than the chip in the head, huh?

Be nice, don't reserve twice!

It is definitely possible to have two ADRs for the same meal. We booked Chef Mickey's for a Sunday night at 6pm and Narcoossee's for a Monday night at 6pm.

Well, when we showed up at Chef Mickey's on Sunday night and they were searching for our res - they had us down for Monday night and I told the hostess that it was incorrect we were dining at Narcoossee's on Monday night and she saw we had ressies at both places at 6pm for Monday night!! She said it happens alot and we were seated immediately.

I would never double book on purpose though!!!!
