Hi

Just wondering...can you eat at Shades of Green if you're not staying there? We liked the look of a restaurant and I know you can eat at other resort hotels when not staying there but we weren't sure with this one as it is exclusive.

Thanks

I did call them, and they said anybody can eat there....you have to pay for parking I believe

I have stayed at SOG before and there food was some of the worst I have ever had at the buffet. Disney's food was a million times better IMO.

I believe you can although I know some of there things are available only to military.

We don't even eat there when we stay there. I don't know if non-military guests can go there just to eat or not, but I can say that I wouldn't bother either way. The food is less than impressive.

Not sure if things have changed, but once upon a time they wouldn't let you onto the resort with out a military, or DoD, ID. DH was out of the military for a few years and during that time we wanted to visit SoG and we were not allowed without military ID. That was about 11 years ago, maybe longer, so it may have changed since then. DH is back in the military so when we do go to SoG for anything we have the ID. We've never eaten there so I can't comment on the food.

You can, but I don't know why you would. We're staying there starting on Saturday and we don't plan on eating any meals there. Much more interesting choices elsewhere.

You still need Military ID or to be sponsored to get on. We have been told that you can dine there w/o being a guest, you just can't buy things out of the exchange and other Military Id required venues. Give them a call either way you'll know before you go!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the replies everyone - although if the food is that bad we might rethink anyway :-) Thanks

yes you need a military id but they may let you in who knows. and as for buying stuff from the hotel its a rip off yeah tax free but you can find it cheaper at walmart. i was so mad i got a magnet with mickey face on it for 5 bucks same thing at walmart $1 .

its not just like that at Shades........its like that with anything you buy in Disney......you will find a lot of stuff like that elsewhere for cheaper....

we just got back from our 11th stay at Shades.....never once did we need ID when we bought anything nor when we ate at Garden Gallery.....also.....we would walk back and forth from the Poly constantly and not once were we stopped and asked for ID while walking past the gate.....so if you walk over from the Poly no one will question you at all......if you drive in you will have to show some ID and let them know why you are there and will probably have to pay $5 to park

as for the food.......its not top notch but Ive had worse at some Disney restaurants......some people just have nothing nice to say about Shades....and Ive found some of those people have never even stayed there.....its just a perception because it is for the military its not gonna be that nice.....Disney themselves rate it right up there with their Deluxe!

Garden Gallery typical buffet food like you would find at all the buffets

Maginos was very nice but they recently changed it up to fit more of a family atmosphere.......when it first opened it was more upper class feeling.....

we dont really eat at any of the resorts we stay at......Im there for the parks and the fun......Im amazed at those who make their vacs to Disney work around their ADR's!

nothing worth eating there any more with the close of Evergreen's and the grossly limited hours at Mangino's.

the Buffet is NOT worth the money for dinner. it is for breakfast. but really, only people who stay there would utilize it at that hour.

ETA: since the golf course is beyond the Guard shack no you do NOT have to have a Military ID to get onto the grounds. you would need one to purchase items( although the AAFES has never asked for one in my experience.. the other shop, with the alcohol DOES)
