DH and I finally sat down and worked out what ADRs we'll try for for our November trip, and I realized I don't know the answer to this:

Can we double up on ADRs for the same night, with the intention of cancelling one closer to vacation time? For instance, can I book a dinner for 10 at O'Hana on 11/18 and also book a dinner for 4 at Chef Mickey's on 11/18 or will the system have a problem with that??

Thanks! I can't believe I've never thought about this before :rolleyes1

No you cant, the CM's making your reservations will catch it

I thought so, but wanted to make sure I wasn't just being paranoid!! ;)

Hmmmmm. .. I'm going to have to look at that list again--we trying to coordinate with my brother's family (local) and planning 6 months out is a bit too much for them!!!

Yes you can double up. It's very easy. Make some of your reservations under your name and home phone number. Make some under your husbands name and a cell phone number. But make sure to always cancel the ones you arent going to need.

This is what i do, even my own name but different number, i cancel tho so just make sure u do or its not fair to others, what i actually did last time was post here waht i was cancelling and changed the name to some other diser as there used to be a thread of thr month with cancellations and wants.

But don't be upset when you call and can't get the ADR's you want because of all the other people that have "doubled-up" and nothing is available. I personally wish they would just do away with the entire ADR system and go back to first-come first-served. That way everyone could be more spontaneous about where they want to eat without having to plan their entire trip 6 mos in advance.

And only have to stand in line 3 hours to eat.

Technically, yes you could double up. But keep in mind that your extra ADR is taking away an open slot and therefore, could be preventing someone else from getting in at the one place they really want to go.

Have to partially agree with Calypso - I don't think people should be able to double book but I do like the ADR system. It's usually just my husband and I, and we can plan our day around our ADRs.

I'm sorry, can't help it ....

Just a word of warning-Double booking ADRs is a hot topic on the Dis!!:rolleyes1
I happen to agree-double booking is not fair, even if you cancel ahead of time. Like you, people are trying to plan 6 mos ahead of time, including what park to go to. A late opening does not always help if it conflicts with the rest of your schedule. Double booking definitely means someone else may miss out!!!

Totally agree :thumbsup2

I disagree, we have only begun using ADR's this past year due to popularity of the DDP, and in the past 10 years we have never waited more than an hour to eat at our choice for TS. (flexibility and patience are key!)

I will not wait 30 mins in my home town for a place to eat and I don't have anything else to do. 99.9% of people are not going to wait 3 hours for a restaurant at a theme park with rides and shows to see.

I don't think it is a good idea to "double up" on ADRs. It isn't fair to everyone else.

Only if you choose to do so...:rolleyes1

Admittedly, my solution might not be the best -- but at least the same party can't stand in line at three or four restaurants at once which is basically what they're doing by having multiple ADRs for the same date/timeframe.

My other suggestion would be to require a credit card deposit on ADR's that would be charged for no-shows. At least that would give people with multiple ADRs the incentive to cancel early enough for someone else to get a table.

And, in my perfect world (and I know a lot of people will hate this -- sorry!), I think ADRs should only be allowed for on-site guests that have a reservation number to link it to...but with a certain percentage of tables set aside for walk-ups to accomodate local residents and people staying off-site.

I think that it is unfair to everyone else who is trying to make dining adr. I am personally finding it difficult to make an adr. It is not in the sharing spirit of people to make multiple adr and only keep one. To these people, please make up your mind, and then act accordingly. Decide on your itinerary, and keep only one adr. Please do not keep nore than you need.

I made ADR's for a few places in one day and it was fine, but plan to eat at them. One is in the morning for BF, then one for dinner. I have two dinners planed one night beacuse one is at 4pm, then we want to go to WCC but I wanted to be fair and made the ADR at 9:40pm when it will be slow. (were still gonna spend money) Some of my ADR'S are gonna be oop.

I don't see anything wrong with that, but to make ADR's and your not planning to use them I think thats not fair.
