Can You Borrow Points For An II Exchange

I think I've asked this question before, but for the life of me I can't remember the answer nor can I find the question here. My question is - I understand when you do an II search and they find a match that you like, they will take the points immediately from your account. But do you actually have to have the points in your account or can you borrow from next UY to get the points?

Yes, you can borrow if need be.

The technical answer is you must pay for the exchange with points in the use year the exchange occurs. In the rare event it is 2 use years ahead such that you can't actually reach the use year, you get the choice of the current one or the next one. You can bank and borrow but all the points need to end up in one place to "pay" for the exchange. Say you had a Dec Use year and got an exchange for Dec, 2008 or after. You could bank the 2007 points and if needed, borrow from 2009 but could not use 2005 points banked to 2006 or 2006 points banked to 2007. My experience is that DVC will make it work if only technicalities stand in the way.
