I'm not sure if anyone else really know about it so, I will just post what happened here. See I like to visit tons of VMK forums websites to see if theirs any new tips for the game and such I can share with friends. Anyways I was at a certain board, which i guess will remain nameless and someone copied the whole VMK players guide and posted it their! They even took all the names away from the guides. Like the quest guide I made they took away what said was by me and the pictures everyone took.

I mean I would understand if they just used a bit of the part and gave credit but they said they did it all by themselves. That really annoys me. They Locked the thread though but still that really annoys me. I just wish people would name things by who actual did them not that they did it themselves. What do you think about this?

Can you tell us what site it is? because Mal copyrighted the guide i think.

I really don't know if I am allowed too. If it is though mod's you may delete this post. It was VMK forums.

Was this a stick/stickied thread? Do you have a link to provide?

I could go and find it, but if you have a link that would make my life a little easier along with the moderators.

It is copyrighted, and I have known these boards to do such things in the past. Thats why the DIS is my home and the others arent. :)

I believe Mal knows about someone copying, but I'm not sure if it's the same person. Try messaging Mal or Lori and see what they can do about it.

Actually it wasn't a sticky just some random persons thread that kept coming to the top of the page. I know Dis Is my home too and I would never leave it :)

I believe the thread you are talking about is now gone. I am sure once the other site was made aware of the problem, it was taken care of. :)

Unfortunately, people like to use information and claim it as their own. If you ever see this here, or anywhere else, just notify someone and ask them to look into it. :thumbsup2 Credit should always be given to the original poster of any info.

Lori

ok, well being who i am, i would create an account and pm the person with a message telling them that you know what they did and you'll tell everyone unless they give proper credit to those who deserve it!!! :disrocks: the dis is my home, and i just can't stand for this!

Does it really matter?

There are only so many ways to say "buy a real hat in the park and get a golden ears card".

All the cards, photos of vmk, tips and tricks belong to vmk and Disney.
If anyone should get mad at copyright violations it should be them.

I notice no one gets mad at the tag fairy for taking something you have said and re-posting it.

Well I guess when Mal took so much time to put it together, it makes people mad when others copy it and claim it as their own.

I wont post in this anymore... I can already see where this might go. :confused3

If someone creates a document for ease of use, like the guide in the sticky above, they do deserve the credit. It really irks me when people choose to take the materials in the sticky above and share it with others (receive kudos for it letting people believe that they created it) but yet never acknowledge the person who took the time and effort to put it together. It is nice to acknowledge when a person takes their time to build something for others to use.

I saw the post last night and it definately was a copy and paste directly from the dis guide, and the poster took credit for it. So not right.

Yes, there are only so many ways to say lots of things, but it's at the height
of rudeness to post something cut and pasted verbatim from another person
if it's paragraphs long and not quoted. People who do this either don't know
posting ettiquette or want scads of attention for being the person posting
wonderful information.

It's always good form to cite the source when it comes to issues like this.
Nobody cares if the tag fairy re-posts something. That's expected as part
of the tag fairy "pixie dust". But people who put together a nice, concise
guide deserve credit for taking the time to do it, IMHO.

People used to steal my stuff to so I know how you feel :sad2:

Yes it really matters....it took me and all the people in the guide many hours to compile that info and put it together, in fact I am working on a new guide now. And yes it does infuriate me when others take my players guide and post it or use it( not personal use) in part or in whole other places with out giving me and the DIS and our members credit for the info and hard work.

Stealing someone elses work and not giving them credit is like shoplifting.
You would not shoplift so why steal someone's hard work?!?! :sad2:

Tag Fairy and the players guide is like comparing Apples and Oranges, give me a break!

About the Guide Thief in question, I spoke with administration at the other website and they orginially had moved it to the junk pile. One of the administrators at this website is also in my guide and he deleted the thread completely.

This is the second time someone from the DIS has caught someone copying and pasting the entire players guide somewhere else with no credit given.

The first time the thief even left my name on it but claimed he had written it himself.

I also suspect that the guides being sold on eBay are the DIS VMK Players Guide.

It is rude, plain and simple. It took Mal and the other DISers many many hours to compile all of the information and to put it together in a nice format for others to enjoy. Lets not forget the constant updating required to be sure it is up to date. The fact the someone can use "Alt Edit Copy" and then paste it into another document does not make them the author, even if there is only so many ways to say "buy a real hat in the park....".

I will be sure let the tag fairy know that s(he) shouldn't try to brighten anyone's day or make anyone laugh with a new tag.... :confused3

You are correct all written word on the net is covered under copywrite law.

I am making ©2006AllRightsReserved more visible since some seem to be missing it or blantantly disregarding it. ;)

This does not mean you can not copy and paste for your own use, PLEASE DO! it does mean that when you use any or all of the guide and post it verbatim to another place here or elsewhere you should give op of that info a note where you post.

I think it is really sad that it has come to selling our guide on ebay :sad2: . It is true though, lots of people did work hard on it. People like Mal, WDWLIGHNTIGNZ (sp?) and lots of other people that worked hard on guides. I think it's not fair either. I mean think about it people, if your doing homework and you steal someone else's that's cheating which is exactly what happened their.

The tag fairy though, takes quotes you said and puts it in YOUR signature/profile. I see nothing wrong with that because their not using it for themselves their using it for you since YOU wrote it. I think that the tag fairy really has nothing to do with this because honesltly this thread was suppose to show people that some people do copy other's work and it's just not right

One reason I just include people guides with in the Players Guide is because I do not want to take credit for their hard work...I could re write their guides/lists/hints in my own words and put them in there but then that to me would be just as bad as stealing their work...I may have to do that at some point though if the guide continues to be stolen and posted and sold for profit.

I am only speculating that the guide being sold on eBay is the DIS VMK PLAYERS GUIDE until someone buys a copy and I see it ....it remains speculation.
