Can we use Vero Beach Resort beach?

At the risk of stepping on the Vero Beach Resort owners' toes, I am wondering if my family can use the beach at the Vero Beach Resort; we are staying at SSR for spring break in April and we usually go to Cocoa Beach for a day, but my wife suggested we try VB because a) she wants to try somewhere other than Cocoa Beach this trip, b) we have never stayed at VB but have always wanted to check it out in hopes of staying there in the future, and c) we know that VB will be a first-rate facility.

I play by the rules and would never think of sneaking into an area where we are not supposed to be, but I can't seem to find anyone who can tell me that we can't use the beach.

I believe that the beach itself is public, but there is a fence with keycard access to get to the resort and facilities from the beach and another fenced area with keycard access to get to the pool/food/community hall area. The beach itself is on the "wild" side as far as Florida beaches go - there is a sharp drop-off, seashells, and waves rough enough to happily body surf.

You could drive up to the resort and check in to walk around or dine, but could not get to either the beach from the resort or the pool/recreation area without a room key. I don't think VB is worth taking a day-trip - but it is definately worth doing a spilt stay!!!!

Hi,
I am not a dvc owner but my step mom is. We went to Ft. Lauderdale last May and she wanted us to see Vero Beach. She pulled up to the resort showed her members card and said we wanted to check out the resort. We were not allowed in the pool of course but we did get to go out on the beach and walk in the water. We stayed about an hour and were on our way. It was very nice and we plan on staying there this year. I think you are allowed to see the different resorts by showing your card, but I hope someone else confirms this for you. Hope this helps.

I have seen posts of visitors stopping by the front desk and asking for permission to check out the resort and get a possible room tour..

Seeing the beach wouldn't be an issue if the front desk gave you a temporary key for the gates... The onsite restaurants are even open to the public, so I don't see those as a problem.

The one thing you may want to be conscious of is the pool area... It can get crowded...

Starbox is right, the beach is public. You can surely show the guard your member card and guest park to look around the resort, but now you cannot get into the pool area OR to the beach from the resort without swiping your room key at the gates. However, there is a street just left (or north) of the resort that leads you up to the public access entrance.

If you are just going for the beach for the day, I think Cocoa is a better location - it has much more of a "strip". VB reminds me of St. George Island, FL or Edisto Island, SC - more "natural" beaches and beach-areas & better places (IMHO) for a relaxing escape and just chill out vacation than the more tourist-friendly beaches. For a day-trip I'd hit a tourist-friendly location.

But words can not really describe how much our family loves VB resort. It is well worth staying a few nights sometime. I keep a framed picture of a smiley-face we made of seashells on the beach at Vero next to the sink and everyday when I get ready for work, I smile.

I love Vero beach for the resort and the ocean together. Cocoa beach is my favorite beach strictly for the ocean color and awesome waves. So I have to agree with Starbox again (even though she made fun of me on another thread earlier today) that a 1 day stay is probably better at Cocoa.
