Can we? Should we? A Spring 2009 PTR - New 5/6 - The TR has begun!

Yesterday I finally figured out what I had done wrong when I initially checked the 4/3 package rates... I forgot to include one adult. :headache: I don't know how I did that - or how it took me so long to figure that out... but that's what happened. So I requoted everything and shared my info with DH last night. Things with the timeshare are a bit up in the air - there doesn't seem to be as much available this spring as usual - especially if we want to have a Monday check-in. So... we decided to book something while the 4/3 deal is going on (until 1/24) and cancel in early March if we are able to get a condo when our window opens up in late February. Makes sense, right?? :confused3

So this is the conversation we had this morning:

DH: "Why are we holding onto the condo? Why are we paying $500-$600/year if we can't use it when we want to? How do we get rid of it?"

me: "Usually $500-600 for a week in a 2 bedroom condo is a great deal."

DH: "Then he says, then why are we considering staying on-site?"

me: "This deal is a great opportunity to try it out - staying in a smaller unit than we are used to - checking out Disney transportation - taking in all of the magic of staying on-site, etc."

DH: "Well then why don't we just do it and not worry about the condo for this trip!"

:woohoo:  :cool1:

I had already been showing him info about CBR (and gotten some info from Heidi - thanks Heidi!) and checked out POR. (DH definitely didn't want to stay at a value - because of space and better pools at the mods.) All morning I was checking out POR-FQ info and we were leaning toward booking there, until DH talked with one of his co-workers who has kids our age and visits WDW frequently (and who's wife used to be a reservation CM and is now a travel agent) and he said CBR hands down (and they had just visited POR-FQ recently). Also - Zachary saw a picture of one of the CBR rooms (Nemo) on the computer and said, "oh - that looks nice" - so funny! :rotfl:

Sooooooooooooooooo...

I have booked CBR for 7 nights - April 27th - May 4th with 7 day park hoppers with the waterpark and more and dining (the 1TS/1QS/1S option). I paid for a preferred room because I know it will be worth it just to get my hot water in the morning for my instant General Foods International Suisse Mocha coffee. ;) And that pool looks amazing! :thumbsup2

I am soooooooo excited! It may not be definite at this point - we could possibly still go with the condo option - but I bet the more time that goes by the more I will want to stay at CBR. :cheer2:

The condo is great - the kitchen, the laundry, the space - but it is also more for me to do - the cooking, the laundry, etc. kwim...

We are undecided about keeping our rental car for the full 10 days or if we'll just keep it for the first 3 days when we visit family. Returning it will save us a good chunk of change too. It would be nice to have, but it is an additional expense - so we'll see... I need to research how long the buses really take.

Do you think we can use DME to get DH from the airport alone without luggage on April 27th if our flight was actually on the 25th? Do they check that? If we return the car, he'll probably drop us at the resort - get checked in and return the car to the airport then need to get back to CBR. We'll definitely use it for our return trip if we don't have the car.

And one more question - should I make any special room requests? I paid for preferred - is there anything more than that I need?? I guess I should check out the map some more. Where are the Nemo rooms? Is is possible to get one of those in the preferred buildings?

If you can't tell - I'm so excited!! There are whole new sections of my guidebooks to read now! I stayed at Pop with mom last April but that was only 2 nights. So much of this is new to me!!

I think I even have to use this guy today: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You guys are going to have a blast onsite. I've always wanted to try out CBR. Last trip we did POR and it was really nice, clean, and fun. CBR was our first choice but it was sold out.

Thanks!! I know we will love the resort - I hope we can deal with the smaller space. We are used to separate bedrooms. The more we talked about it we realized that we don't spend much time at the resort when the kids are awake. We are either at the pool or the kids are sleeping. They go to sleep and we get to hang out in another room - so the lack of extra room will really only effect us, not the kids - and we can deal with it. But Alex is a very early riser. :rolleyes1 I guess he'll be our alarm clock. ;)

Yes that is the only problem we ran into. During naptime. We usually stay in a 1 bedroom villa at OKW so when ds takes a nap we can go in a different room or sit on the balcony. Other than that the moderates were nice. Lots of activities going on.

Luckily the boys are beyond naps. We can either take a swim break or a tv/rest break. One of our biggest problem in the past has been that Alex was on a gluten/dairy free diet. WDW did a great job with that but it was nice to have our own snacks available and could cook our own breakfasts. He's not on that diet anymore, but he is still super picky and likes a lot of the gluten free food that's hard to find. The fact that CBR has fridges in the rooms is a major plus. And we'll pick up a bunch of drinks/snacks before we check in. I may bring some of Alex's muffin mixes down with us and bake the muffins at my BIL's house. And I have one of those little vacuum sealers that I can bring to seal them up real good so they'll stay fresh all week. I'm sure we can make it work.

Yeah CBR! I think you made a great choice. I think the boys would have been bored with the pool at POFQ. All the prefered rooms have already been changed to NEMO. :thumbsup2 The food court has a microwave and a toaster if you need them. I brought a cheap-o toaster with me last trip for breakfast foods and will be taking one again the next time we go. I really think you should keep the rental car for the whole time. You are already changing from a condo to a hotel room....you may want to ease into the transportation thing.

I'm really happy & excited about CBR. :woohoo: Still on the fence about the rental car though... we'll see. :confused3 Great tip about the toaster. :thumbsup2 We'll have to pick one up when we get down there. DH's brother will be able to point us in the right direction of a Walmart. Alex eats toast EVERY morning on his gluten free bread. And he is a super early riser - it would be nice to be able to make that up for him in the room.

Are you sure all of the prefered rooms are updated? I've read that only the Martinique rooms are - but I may be reading old info?? I guess I could put it in my request either way...

CBR looks so beautiful from all the photos I have seen. I think you are going to have a great time there!

Thanks!! I hope so. :goodvibes

Thanks!! I can't wait! Now I am getting super excited. I just wish they would release the May hours already. :rolleyes1 They have to do it sometime in January since the ADR window will be opening up... My hope is by January 20th since that would be the start of the 90days +10.

Oh - and another thing to be excited about... I'll only have to make one call to make my ADRs - I won't have to call back each day. :cool1:

Trying to get all of my subscriptions updated. I'll be back! :)

Glad to see you back on the boards!!:wave2:

This morning DH & I were telling the boys that we were going to do something fun today. The first thing Alex says is "Chuck E. Cheese" (which is what we were planning). Zachary says (or should I say, yells), "GO TO THE BEACH". (It's about 25-30 degrees here today with a foot of snow on the ground.)

If only he knew... :rolleyes1

HI!:goodvibes You will love CBR.:thumbsup2 We stayed there and so far it is my favorite resort.

I agree with Zachary.Beach trip today would be great.

I was actually coming over here to correct myself. Tridad North is not done and I don't know if it will be in time. I'd want to stay in Martinique over TN anyways.

I was looking at our Scuba diving magazine yesterday and all I wanted to do was fly or cruise off to the Keys or the Caribbean (the real one that is!)

Amy I agree w/ Heidi on the car rental thing....mya be good to have this one thing you guys are semi used too...as you make the huge but awesome change in how WDW has been done in the past for the boys, especially Alex.

other thought to request on your room is the floor...ground or 1st. Smart to request preferred though!

I'm so excited you took the plunge and are going to stay at CBR. It's been a long time since we've been there, but after reading about the updates and such from Heidi's TR I know the kids and you and your DH will love it. You know they have a special kid only pirate cruise at that location too....

Can't wait to read more updates!

Sounds good - I'll have to put in a request for Martinique! :thumbsup2
Do the hallways go all the way around the building or are there end units available? I'm thinking that might be a good idea if they have them.

I am with Zachary -- a beach trip would be great right about now as long as it was warmer than 25 degrees!

We're having another storm today - right now it is sleet - little ice pellets falling from the sky - it is supposed to turn to freezing rain later - I hope we don't have a repeat of the ice storm we just had! :scared1:

That would be really nice today! I assume the weather is not so nice where you are too.

I'm thinking 1st floor would be better then we won't have to worry about being too noisy above someone's head at 5am. Luckily so many people get up early at Disney it shouldn't be a problem.

Still thinking through the car idea - but I did reserve a minivan through Dollar for $199/week. It comes to $400 with the 2 extra days at $39/each and the $100/fees. :headache: Hopefully Alamo will have some better deals as we get closer - they were soooo easy to use last time.

I'm not sure about that pirate cruise thing... I'd be too nervous about Alex's impulsive behavior. He's not on any meds right now - the one ADHD med that we found that worked caused him to not sleep. Then we added in a bunch of heavy duty things to try to get him to sleep which didn't make any sense so we just took him off everything. For now...

Now I'm trying to plan our itinerary for the week (without May hours) so I'll be ready for ADRs at the end of the month. :woohoo:

Of course I already knew this was going to happen because I tracked the packages, but on Monday I was excited when Mr. UPS drove up and delivered two of these:

along with one smaller box. The small box contained these:

(Sorry for the giant picture - I can't figure out how to fix it...)
and some red ones too.

I dragged the boxes in from the garage and looked for the best place to open the boxes that would look OK for a photo shoot. We ended up in Alex's room because my DMIL had been over the night before and she always cleans their rooms. :thumbsup2

The second box was equally exciting... but I wanted to give the blue luggage a photo session of their own so I brought out the measuring tape, which you can't really read... :rolleyes1

The large suitcase is the perfect size for each of the boys to check. The smaller suitcase should be acceptable as a carry on since we can only check one item each. (I checked the JetBlue website for carry on dimensions before I ordered the luggage.) And the little carry on bag is about 17"X6" that they could use as a personal item - unless they use their backpacks instead. We'll see. Maybe it will be my personal item. ;)

Aren't they beautiful - lots of zipper compartments and they even have the expansion zipper! You know we'll need that. :thumbsup2

Not really sure what you mean about the hallways

Sleet and freezing rain right now...thankfully we don't have to go anywhere today.

I never heard anyone else the whole time we were there...but it wasn't very booked. At Disney resorts I only hear the bathroom next to us when I'm in our bathroom.....gotta love concrete walls.

Can you downgrade from a mini van? If we didn't have the big stroller with us we could have fit another kid in our full size rental.
