Can we "combine" points?

Hi- I am new to this (considering purchasing!) and I have a question ......If my sister and I both buy points- would we be able to "combine" points to stay at a larger villa? For example, if she has 150, and I have 150, can we share our points to get a 300 point vacation?

Sorry if this is a silly question...

thanks for your help!

DVC is confusing for the first 10 years or so.

Sorry, You cannot combine points for a larger accomodation. You do each have the option of borrowing points to get larger units if you like.

If you want to extend your vacation you can each book a week sequentially for the same size accomodations. You can request that it be listed on your reservation that you would like to stay in the same room in conjunction with a vacation she booked. Have them list both ressies and tell them when you check in you want the same room.

I think this can be done. My brother has used his points to book rooms for me to extend my stay. MS just has to link the 2 ressies. It will be done as 2 ressies. You also have to consider the 7 or 11 month window- for home/non-Home Resort preference.

You may want to call MS and both you and your sister be on the phone to make the ressie. I know it can be done, just not sure of the specifics regarding your resorts and points needed.

You also may have to consider bank/borrow of either one of your points.

Sorry if this is vague-Iknow there are plenty of experts on this board who will have all of the ins-and-outs.

You can combine points if one of you transfers ponts into the others account. In any particular years transfers are only allowed one way (ie either in or out).

It would be nice if we could combine pts for longer vacations with our sisters but this is not allowed. .

Actually, it can be done. Your sister would have to transfer the necessary points to your account, or you transfer your points to your sister's account. Then one person can make the whole reservation because they become your points.

There are specific rules about transferring (you can only do it once a year) etc etc. And it'd be most helpful if you both owned at the same resort as there are restrictions with where the points came from.

The other problem is, do you trust your sister? If you transfer 150 points into her account are you SURE she's not going to take off for 3 weeks at Vero Beach?? ;) ;) ;)

I'm sorry I don't know all the details and restrictions, actually my dh is the point wizard in the family. But I do know that this may be an option for you.

Good luck
HTH :D

I am sorry I said you can't do this. I never even thought about transferring points. I have never done it so it didn't spring to mind. I hope you and your sister will buy into DVC, it is an investment in a lifetime full of quality vacations.

For some reason I have been turned away from transferring points-I don't recall why-I think I just didn't like that you were held to it and are limited on how often it can be done-also I thought it was once overall, not per year! Maybe that is why I nver wanted to do it!! Am I misinformed?

Wow! Thanks for the quick responses! You are all so helpful! I can't wait to be a DVCer too!

It is once per year. It is also very easy to do. Also, if you are transfering between two of your own accounts or two family member's accounts, there is MCUH less of a restriction. That restriction is a tool against renting.

i think you could also "combine" points for a larger vacation if you book half the nights, and your sister books the other half of the nights.

then you ask MS to link your reservations.

transferring would probably work more seamlessly though.
but transferring points can be a little complicated.

Ritch,
Why would you transfer between your own accounts? You can't transfer pts from one resort to another, can you??
