Can u explain waitlisting? Is it risky when coming from Uk?

Hi ,

Even though we’ve been DVC members since 1999, we’ve never explored wait listing a resort. We are from Uk and come over for 2 weeks at a time. In 2019; we have a 3 night dcl booked, so will be booking 4 nights before the cruise at our home resort, and a week after. We really want to try a different resort so looking to change the 4 night booking at the 7 month window. Ideally we’d love a studio at either the poly or grand Floridian . How does waitlisting work? Obviously we definitely need somewhere to stay as flights are already booked so have no flexibility. It would be early may 2019, not sure if that’s a quiet season for dvc? Any help, advice is really appreciated thanks

If you book your home resort for the whole time you want, you will have a place to stay in case neither of your waitlists come through. For early May, perhaps you will be lucky and when you go to book, what you want will be available!

You are talking about switching really, not waitlist. Switching has a small amount of risk because you technically cancel the first booking before making the second. This can be mitigated by using the 'DVC two browser switching method' (Google it, you'll likely find links to instructions on here).
As to waitlist, you can only make that at 7 months on resorts that are not available to book as they are booked out. That has zero risk as you can just select to change one booking for another, and where any extra points should be taken from, should the waitlist come through.

That's probably just switching - at least for PVB. Likely little risk as that's a slower time for DVC and if the availability disappears mid switch you can get your home resort or some other place back. If you have enough points just straight out book the different location and cancel your home resort. You don't want to borrow to do this because borrowing is a final transaction but if you have banked or current points that's the way to guarantee the change. If you did have to waitlist that's almost as guaranteed. There's a manual part to filling the waitlist and the CMs sometimes do funky things but that's pretty rare. I wait list a lot and haven t had any issues of ending up without a room - I wouldn't be concerned about that.

A studio at the GFV is going to be tough. We've gotten a one bedroom at the GFV twice at seven months out in May so far. Both times we looked in May, a studio wasn't available seven months out.

We own at GFV and usually studios are booked by 10 months. Maybe it its for a couple of nights you could get it.

We waitlisted GF for this Easter.
Came rhough a few months before.
It was for Easter Sunday to the following Friday.

Both times I’ve stayed at GF (in a studio) it’s been nearly last minute booking or last minute waitlists conig through. The rooms were gone at 7 months but as the dates closed in people started changing their plans. Managed to get Christmas Eve and day there, booking at almost no time out from it, and the recent Princess stay was finalized at VGF within weeks of the visit.

Not saying you’ll have the same luck, but don’t totally despair.
