Can This Really Be True????!!!!

I'm enjoying this thread. It's fun to hear about wild animal sightings at WDW. I'm with Sandy Feet, I wouldn't mind seeing a gator... from a distance. ;)

Yup. Dh was golfing and saw a bunch of balls that people had left behind. He was wondering why they hadn't played them through. He then caught a glimpse of the gator near the edge of the water. Now he understands!

BTW. I WAS looking forward to floating in the lazy river at TL in Oct. NOW I am terrified!

This might be kind mean but it is meant in the best of fun. I have told my 9 year old son about the snake thing. We have agreed NOT to tell Grandma or the other 3 kids about it. We will be taking water cameras to the lazy river and we hope to get great action shots.hahahahahahahahaha

Was floating around the lazy river at BB many years ago and cam across a lifeguard trying to get a thin, small, black snake out of the water with a net. He told us it wasn't poisonous, but that it liked to bite...

And there we all were, big butt-through-the-tube offerings to nibbly, nasty snakes. Now, I keep picturing those Twinkie commercials - "But where's the cream filling?"

We didn't see any gators, but while waiting at Bus Stop #3 (Ranchos) at CSR last month, we saw a really big cat across the road and on the other side of the pond. It was a cougar or something like that, not sure what big cats they have in Florida. It was really cool to see it there, just sauntering along on the edge of the woods. It was far enough away that it wasn't scary to see, just really cool.

I took my son and nephew last year in July. We were walking in the MK towards Splash Mountain. We were walking along the water because it was less crowded and my nephew pointed out a "cute" Disney alligator in the water. There was a five foot alligator on the bank. YIKES! We went to Splash Mountain and decided to pass on traveling to Tom Sawyer Island at that time.

Actually, its good to know this. We tend to think of Disney as a fantasyland, where nothing is real and nothing will hurt you. If I saw a gator or snake at Disney, my first thought would be that it was part of the park,a fake, a robot of sorts. I'll be more cautious now. Thanks for the heads up!

One morning when we were at AS Sports in May, my DH saw a small snake near some bushes. That is the first time we have seen a snake at WDW, but have seen gators in the waterways.

When my family used to go camping as kids, we were visited by bears a couple of times in Yellowstone and Yosemite. We swear ::yes:: my dad, who yelled at the bear in Yellowstone, asked it if he wanted bacon or sausage, because the next morning he asked all of us what we wanted for breakfast. We all said bacon and when he went to get it out of the cooler, there was no bacon. My uncle found the bacon wrapper in a field behind where we were camping.

We haven't seen any 'gators, but we did see one of those long, skinny black things :scared1: wriggling beside the sidewalk at VWL! The CM that was looking at him with us assured us that he was a baby "but very brave." Every foot or so, the snake would consider getting on the sidewalk. DS10 was thrilled. I was fine as long as he stayed off the sidewalk. :p

We had to wait for three deer cross in front of us just outside of WL. We had a good laugh out of that one. How silly would it be to come from a state where car-deer accidents are accepted as normal and hit a deer within eyesight of Cinderella's Castle?

The Travel Channel had a "Road Trip" program where they drove from Orlando down to the Keys.

An expert at the Everglades said there are over One Million alligators in the state of Florida. I'm sure alot are in the wilds but they aren't all going to stay where we might think they ought to.

I also learned something new, there are both alligators and fresh water crocodiles in the Everglades. They said it's the only place (in America or in the world?) where both species are found together.

We recently returned from an 11 day trip with a long stay at the Swan. I was on the lookout for the alligator! We had a balcony room with a great view of the water, but no alligator. I did, however, much to my dismay, see several snakes over the course of the week. Most of them were between the Dolphin and the Yacht Club!
