Can This Really Be True????!!!!

Last summer at the WLV pool I saw a boy catching a snake in a pool towel right next to the pool. When I asked him if he knew what kind of snake it was he replied "No." Then I asked him if he knew if it was poisonous or not, he said, "I dunno?". I told him it probably was not such a great idea to handle a snake he knew nothing about, but I guess boys wil be boys.
With the lush natural environment at WDW there are plenty of snakes, lizards, insects etc., closer than you realize for your enjoyment.

goofy4tink-OMG that really DID happen to us!!!!

DH and DSs were off on the slides at BB and my mom and I decided to just hop on a tube and relax in the lazy river for an hour or so. We are floating along and just as you said BAM-there is a snake swimming along with us!!!!!

So picture this-two females that have snakes as #1 on the fear factor list. We are in huge tubes in above waist water, in a pretty strong current, with hundreds of people getting irritated at us because we are trying to go against the flow of people!!!! And then there is the snake that is having no trouble following my mom and I at all. The little booger wanted to be near us no matter which way we tried to dodge him. The lifeguards didn't do anything as we passed them and we couldn't find a spot to legally get out. (we could have climbed the highest wall at that moment if it was allowed!)

Well, finally some guy went by on his tube (never got off), swept his hand through the water, picked up the snake and tossed on in the grass. Whew!!

I think the snake was at least 5 feet long and about 4 inches in diameter. ;););)

No, really it was about 6 inches long and this whole story lasted about 10 minutes. We laugh about it now, but when it really happened.........well :)

Have never seen a snake at WDW...yet. But last Oct. when my dd's went parasailing they went right over a gator. The driver of the boat had to radio in to have it removed from Bay Lake. The next person that went up after my dd's, the driver slowed down so that the parasailor was able to get a better look at it! (when the boat slows down the parasailor will drop) My dd's actually spotted it when they were in the air! I would have been flipping out! Snakes, gators anything is better than frogs to me! :) frog-a-phobic!

I don't worry about sankes on the golf course!. That's what 3 irons are for!!

Well, sure...that's fine for the golf course. But I'm not sure how I'm gonna look in my innertube, carrying a 3 iron!

But, I'm not worrying too much. The wildlife rounder-uppers are pretty good at WDW. They keep a pretty good handle on all the 'critters'. And to the best of my knowledge, the snakes aren't venomous. At least, that's what they told me.

While staying at POR one yr. it seemed like every time we walked back to our room there would be at least 1 big frog waiting by the door. :faint: I'd get nervous just approaching the room hoping there wouldn't be a frog waiting in front of our door. YUCK!

:teeth: You're cracking me up! I'm now imagining my mother and I in your innertube story and I can't stop laughing. We're both terrified of snakes, too.

At Rafiki's planet watch, Ak, a CM showed us a huge and horrible spider - not a tarantula, but a floridian species MUCH bigger and more scary than anything we have in the UK. THEN she told me that if I looked carefully, I'd see them all around the park in the greenery, probably about ten an hour. :scared1: :scared1:

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

gators, at a distance, i can handle...

snakes...ewwwwwwwwwwwww

i do have to say that i saw a snake the last time i was at BB. we were walking up to one of the raft slides when it slithered across the walkway. i about jumped into DH's arms! and now...the next time we go...i will be on the lookout for snakes in the lazy river!! ***shivers***

FLORIDA: SEE IT LIKE A GATOR!! Anyone remember that Travel Slogan?:p

Uh, you and me both... except now I don't know how I'll get MYSELF in there... knowing there are snakes! Our water parks in Texas somehow manage to keep the snakes out of the lazy river...

They have also gotten in the pool at the Yacht and Beach. I guess they like that the lazy river part. They seem to be more of a problem at pools close to another body of water like a lake or lagoon, like the SAB pool, Polynesian, WL, and Grand Floridian. I think they are in the lakes and come out and get in the pool.

It is Florida and at any given time you can come in contact with alligators, frogs, lizards and snakes.

CNN did a special last week about the alligators situation in Florida, about how it had gotten worse since people are feeding them. They are losing their natural fear of man and looking for a quick meal.

Hey - snakes like to take a vacation every once in a while too!

We sawa gator in the pond across the street from Bus Stop 3 at CSR last week. We also saw two deer over there. We thought it was kind of cool! But we live in S. GA - and if there's water, there's snakes and gators - just like Florida.

I've never once heard of any golfers ending up in a gator's stomache:rolleyes: They are like most wild animals - leave us alone and we'll leave you alone.

Of course the gators are real, this is FL and Disney also has one of the biggest nature perserves in FL. If the gators get to be to big, or a nuisance because someone decides to feed them, they are relocated to the nature perserve. There are also deer, raccoons etc all over the Disney property! I think they were all there before the "World" was built....lol

While staying in Rapi Nue at the Poly, we were on the end unit and there was a large bamboo bush that went all the way to our third floor balcony. When we were coming back from the parks very late one nite at the top of the landing by the automatic doors was a very large rat snake. There was a couple already there watching it and they had already call the main desk. Within a few minutes they had it in a bag. The guys who caught it said it was harmless and was probably living the the bamboo right by out balcony, wouldn't you know. Anyway we did not see any more snakes the rest of our trip but we did look on our balcony before we went on it the rest of the trip...smjj

I've seen plenty of gators on golf courses throughout the state of Florida over the years, so it comes as no surprise to me that there would be some in Disney World, they want to have fun just like the rest of us. LOL:crazy:

My boys,Erich and Jonathan are 10 and 11....they now seem to get more excited seeing real live gators, snakes and lizards at WDW than a giant mouse! :( siiiiiiiigh

Seriously...this thread has sent cold chills up and down me. OMG SNAKES in the water parks??? IN THE POOLS??? Well my kids might be thrilled but I have gone off the idea of waterparks now.
Wouldn't mind seeing a gator from a distance though.;)

I've even heard of people sighting REALLY large bears, chipmunks ducks and mice IN the MK,
a HUGE blue bug, lion and baboon at AK,
EXTRA large beasties of all sorts at MGM,
and actual REAL Princes and Princesses at EC!!!

Who woud have thought...:hyper:

Tell you what, I'll go check it out for myself in...

:jumping1:
