It can happen on rare occasions, but only if the one bedroom unit goes out of service for a problem, like an emergency coat of paint or a pipe break.

There are generally no "freebie" upgrades on DVC reservations.

I see our server time warp is back, and posts are out of order :worried:

Chuck, I thought you were talking to yourself!:lmao:

Happened to my wife and me at HHI back about 4 years ago (before we joined DVC). WE got a coupon for $99 a night in a one room and they upgraded us to a two room. Just the two of us! It was very nice indeed.

Cash rom inventory and DVC room inventory are different. Yhere are rarely DVC upgrades, but there are more often cash upgrades.

See, if a member trades out to another non-DVC location, a similar room is turned over to cash reservations by DVC, and can not be used by DVC. Also, Disney maintains a percentage of ownership, and their rooms, if not used for maintenance, can be used for cash reservation upgrades.

We stayed at SSR resort (ground floor studio) in May and there was a pipe break. Our room was flooded and they moved us to another room one flight up and two over. Low and behold, it seems the leaky pipe was on our new floor, next door. The day we checked out they were next door ripping out soaking wet carpet and punching holes in the wall to find where the leak was. The manger was very nice for the inconveniece and credited our account $50 but I would of loved to been upgraded to a one bedroom!

Yup! I was once upgraded from a 2 bedroom to a Grand Villa! I have no idea why the switch, the front desk girl just gave me a big grin and said I would really like my room. I had my mother and brother with me and I have to say, they were impressed. Heck, I was impressed :cool1:

Many Two Bedroom villas are actually a 1B + Studio with a connecting door open. For that reason, I suspect a member upgrade from a 1B to a 2B rarely ever happens. As others have said, DVC members are typically only upgraded due to maintenance issues, and there's usually no justification for putting a member in a 2B (with the connecting door open) when the 1B is what they have reserved.

DVC operates at almost 100% capacity year round - or at least that is how its designed to work. There are a few rooms sitting empty many days (but not ALL, some days they are at 100% capacity) - undergoing maintenance or unbooked. The rooms that are unbooked often "belong" to CRO or DVD - not DVC members. Therefore, there is very little room for DVC to upgrade members, even if they wanted to. And very little motivation for them to upgrade members.

just wanted to report we were upgraded from a studio to a one bedroom that slept 5 at akl villas within the last two weeks.:cool1: was a wonderful surprise, as it was myself and three teens. (we were staying on points) absolutely loved the huge double balcony and the kitchen area.
