Can someone tell me what a fish extender is??

I have heard about this fish extender and I'm not quite sure what it's all about. We are doing our first Disney cruise in a few weeks and I would like to get some cute designs for our door. Here are the details:

Disney Dream 2012

Jason (Dad)
Talissa (Mom)
Aubrey (DD6)
Bredan (DS4)

Any designs (or directions to links) would be greately appreicated!!!

I've seen instructions in there for making FEs. Also, I believe there's a thread dedicated to making FEs. And I know people on ebay and etsy sell them as well.
