ok.....We are on the Eastern next month....we are so confused on what beach excursion to do. Can you guys please give me your opinions on Trunk Bay and Sapphire Beach.....We are leading more toward Sapphire beach right now. Does anyone know if this is a nude beach? WE DON"T WANT THAT!! lol

We were thinking about doing Sapphire beqach on our own. Anyone done this? IS it easy to get to in a taxi? Ahhhhh Please help!!

Any info will be greatly appreciated!!!!!! Thanks again ahead of time!!!!!!

I believe (and hope that someone corrects me if I'm wrong) that the only place you will find nude beaches is on the French side of St. Maarten. More specifically, Orient Bay. We've been to Orient Bay before and saw nudity, but if you end up at Orient Bay you may want to ask to be dropped off at the family beach where you may encounter less nudity.

I'm sure there are other beaches that DISers could recommend. I wish I could give you more info!

I'm pretty sure CRSNYDSNY is right, though we are going on our first cruise in 2.5 weeks. I have investigated this issue quite a bit as I feel my DS 9 doesn't need to see nude females! We're working hard enough to instill some modesty in this boy! :p

Anyway, I have mostly read that the French side of St. Maartin (or Sint Martin for that matter) is where you are likely to encounter nudity. We'll likely be staying at the beach right at the pier/harbor on the dutch side. We also want to look at doing a bit of shopping/site seeing on this side.

Good luck in deciding, I know it was hard for us, and hope this helps put your mind at rest.

Which Eastern will you be on next month(August)???

We are on the August 23rd Eastern, and we have chosen Sapphire Beach as our excursion for St. Thomas.

After I posted this I looked at your countdown clock, you are on the same cruise as us!!!

Have you seen the August 23rd thread???

If not, click on here: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=320225

"please give me your opinions on Trunk Bay and Sapphire Beach....."

Both beaches are great and neither one is nude or even topless.

Trunk Bay - great if you want to snorkel. It's beautiful. But it takes quite a bit of traveling to get there - taxi to Red Hook, wait for Ferry, Ferry to St John, taxi to Trunk bay, Swim/Snorkel .... and then back the same way. It could take an hour each way.

Sapphire Beach - if you don't want to snorkel. You can easily go there yourself by cab but you won't get the "free" lounge chair and whatever else comes with the excursion, but its a lot cheaper to do it yourself. Cab is probably about $7 per person each way.

Enjoy!! I love St Thomas and St John and cruising there for just a day is such a tease, but a nice one.

My suggestion is to go to Trunk Bay. It is close to paradise. I keep a picture of it on my refrigerator! I have vacationed on St. T many times and St. JOhn is definitely worth the trouble. Go for it!!

I received an e-mail from cruisecritic.com this morning, they had Sapphire Beach listed for beaches to visit on St. Thomas.

Best Beach for Active Types: Sapphire Beach, a resort on the island’s East End, has the most stunning view as it faces St. John and the British Virgin Islands and virtually every conceivable type of water-sports equipment is available for rent, from kayaks to jet skis to Sunfish sail boats...

I too, have a picture of trunk bay on my refrigerator! It is the reason we repeated the same eastern cruise over new years! It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! Almost every top beaches list or magazine with beautiful beaches has a picture of it in it. It is the big picture in AAA's disney cruise line book. However, when we went on this excursion in January, they couldn't stop at trunk bay due to rough seas (didn't want to disturb the coral reef); so turned out to be a disappointment. We would love to get a hotel and spend a week on st.john for their beautiful beaches like trunk bay! barb

Question: If you do not book the excursion and get to Trunk Bay on your own, do you get to snorkel the coral reefs or do you need to be on the excursion to reach the coral reefs?

Second time cruiser, first eastern cruise. Can't wait!!!
