I believe I have an account...but still don't know what it really does or if it's even worth it? Can I ever/how long does it take to earn a free ticket...like miles? Should I have an account for everyone in our family in the hopes that one day we'll have enough "points" for a free ticket to Orlando (that's then only place we fly)? thanks for any help!!:thumbsup2

The credits expire in a year so unless you are going to do four round trips (that will get you upgrade to business class) or eight round trips (free flight) it probably isn't worth it. I went a long time with an account before I traveled enough for it to be worth it...now that said there are a few reasons to keep the account.

You will accumulate the credits and you can donate them (to charitable organizations - it's on the website) before they expire.

Secondly there are ways you can boost your credit level. I got the Airtran Visa and I earn the points really fast with that. Also emiles (I think that is it) and erewards are programs where you can convert your points with them to credits for Airtran. They are basically sites where you read something and click on it for the points. I have gotten a couple of credits that way.

Yes you should go ahead and get an account for everyone.

You get one credit for each one way flight. It takes 4 credits to upgrade to business class and 8 to get a free one way coach ticket.

If you have an Airtran VISA card, the credits don't expire in a year. I think they are extended two years (but I use mine faster than that so I'm not sure exactly). I also earn one credit for each $1,000 put on the Airtran card. There is a $39 annual fee (I think that increased to $49) BUT you also get two $50 coupons for flights on your annual renewal date.

I use our credits to get business class updates for DH and me. Our cost would be $69 for the upgrades so I figure each $1,000 I put on the card gets me $17.25 or 1.725% return. That's a bit better than my 1.5% cash back on my Amex for non food, gas, etc items.

Get the airtran memberships as they cost you nothing and you may actually get some benefit from the credits.

I've never flown enough in one year to get a free ticket, but I have used the credits for upgrade vouchers to business class several times.
