Can someone explain AAA discount to me?

I have read some of the other posts, but I am still confused. What type of discount is typical? Do I have to join AAA before I can find out if the discount is even offered during my time frame? Can I still get the 6 months to pay with my disney visa, or will it be charged as AAA?

I did not get a post card and do not have a pin code. This makes me long for the days of the Magic Kingdom Club!

There's a pretty good write-up on the AAA discount at mousesavers.com. Here's a link:

You can book the AAA discount for room-only reservatrions directly through Disney CRO using your Disney Visa to pay. I'm not sure you get the 6-mo. promotion on room-only reservations.

If you want to book a package using the AAA discount, you have to go through a AAA TA. I'd search around here for the name of a good AAA TA who is also a Disney Specialist. Each time I've requested a quote from our local AAA office I've been disappointed with both the number and the knowledge of the person with whom I spoke. My understanding of the packages through AAA is that you get the room discount and the rest of the package is standard price.

I hope this helps. Have a great trip!

If you are thinking of joining AAA just to get the discount, call WDW and ask for the price of your resort/per night with the AAA discount. You can make a room only reservation with AAA directly through Disney, but if you plan on booking a package (tickets and /or dining plan) you need to do it through AAA. No matter what, it is worth the call to see how much you would save, and if your dates are available. You can call 1-800-828-0228.

Here is a link where you can find the rack rate (regular price) of all the resorts.

And here is a site that gives you the AAA discounts percents, which vary depending on when you travel.

Last year I joined AAA just for the savings I got on the resort reservation. You do not have to be a member of AAA to find out if your dates are available, or even to book. However, I would be sure to join before you go and have your card with you in case they ask to see it when you check in.

I went into the AAA office here in MA to book a package but was disappointed with the "offerings". I should start out by saying that when I booked through them last year they had no clue about the dining plan and I had to take them step by step with what I wanted in order to get the price to where it should have been. I'm finding this year that the one rep I spoke with seemed to understand the concept of the package but would only offer me what she said was "the only AAA Disney package available at this time": 6 nights with hopper passes, free waterpark and something else, I don't remember, for just less than $2100 (value resort, 2A, 2J, 1C).

What we wanted was 7 nights POP with AAA 15% discount, 5 or 6 day passes w/ NO hopper, and the dining plan for the 7 nights. She said that wasn't an option.

Can we go through a different AAA office? The savings is really only $17/night x 7 nights so if necessary we can book without AAA but hey, $120 is $120.

I'm using AAA for the second time. We're saving close to $400 for 8 nights at the Poly (5 of us with hoppers and the DDP). It's really worth it for us.

To the OP: I have a Disney Visa, and you DO get the 6 months 0% financing charge if you book a package through AAA. It comes out on the charge as Disney Travel Company or something like that--not AAA.

If you're not happy with the service you get from one T.A., go to another one. You're not bound to use a particular office; with your membership, you can go to another AAA office.

My understanding is that you are not limited to your local office. Search around this forum, and you'll find the name of at least one AAA TA who is a Disney specialist.

If you purchase a la carte, what kind of discount is offered on tix? (6 d MYW with PH)?

Can you use AAA rates to get a package and then also use codes such as the disney visa codes when they come out?

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure you can't stack discounts. For example, we're going in April - 6 nights, 7 days at CBR - got a discount of about $300 by going through AAA (package including room, tickets and dining plan). However, Disney was offering a free upgrade on the tickets to park hopper and water parks, but we couldn't get both the AAA discount and the free upgrade. Does that make sense? My kids are too young for water parks and we don't need to park hop, so the AAA discount made more sense for us.

So, I think you can either use the AAA discount or the Disney Visa code, but not both.

Just an FYI - when I booked my room only trip for September through CRO with a AAA discount, I did have to give them the AAA membership number on the card. I don't remember having to do that before - I remember showing the card when I checked in (which they said I still have to do on this trip). So if you check the rates and like what you hear, you need to have the card to book through Disney.
