Can reservations be linked?

If I book a room through member services and then book a cash reservation through Disney for the same exact room type, can those reservations be linked so I don't have to change rooms? Or is it luck of the draw?

Any advice on how to make that work would be great.

Thanks!

Yes, MS should be able to do that for you. I don't think that is a guarantee that you won't have to change rooms though, but I assume it would make it much more likely that you can stay where you are.

They can note both reservations but they can't be officially linked, you will have to check-out/check-in.

They did that for me at Hilton Head, without my asking anyone. Maybe because it was during slow season, and it's a smaller resort (easier for them to notice)?

Normally DVC reservations cannot be linked with non-DVC reservations. It might be possible, but you probably will have to check out and check in. Just make sure you are blocked into the same room for both stays.

I am not sure if they guarantee that you will not have to switch rooms, or it is a request..... I had trouble at BLT with a cash nights for Fri Sat that were in the middle of a stay. But, my cash nights were not booked thru member services, so that may be the difference. I had called both DVC and WDW before the trip, to let both sides know I wanted the reservations linked. We ended up switching once before the cash nights. Then, for Sunday, after we had already packed Sat night, we got a call we could stay in our room at 9:30 the night before the switch! Sort of funny, I was glad to be able to stay, but we had already packed, and tossed some food items, etc. Before the trip, I did not understand how it works, so I was surprised that is was so difficult.

You can't link a CRO reservation with a points reservations but you can potentially link a MS cash reservation with a points reservation if they are the same booking cat. However, you can request not to move and generally you won't have to but you will have to check in again on any change days.

I agree - I misread the original post and thought it was a DVC points stay and a DVC cash stay. I don't think a CRO cash stay can be linked with a points stay, only noted as suggested above.

Thanks everyone! I went ahead and booked the points reservation and then added on 2 nights through CRO (better FL res discount). Both CM's told me they could note the other reservation on the system and to let the CM at check-in know what was going on. There aren't any guarantees, but hopefully I won't have to change rooms.

Fingers crossed.

The only thing in this situation is to make sure you don't get a specialty view that you likely won't get with cash such a Boardwalk or Standard view at BWV, nearly HH for OKW, etc. These views generally aren't given up for cash. It doesn't mean it couldn't work out but it's far less likely if you have such a specialty view.
