Can only afford studios at WDW

Not trying to show off (because there are plenty richer people than me) but this year I will make about 3 million US dollars as income and we always stay in the standard hotel rooms, sharing beds for kids, for two weeks each year.

I suppose it depends how close your family is but I don't have much privacy at home either and I think a multi-bedroom villa is just a waste of money.

We enjoy spending the time together and are only in the room to sleep or shower really. I like sitting around the resorts to read etc.
Thanks and you don’t sound like you’re showing off at all! I love that you still get studios

I guess it’s more the “alone” time with my partner I’m concerned about
We will be on vacation for a month - so I guess you know what I mean….

I find nature finds a way to provide all the opportunities necessary for a happy life.

Haven’t read whole thread but what do you do when someone is sick, prohibited by medical orders, gone away for work, etc.? Surely one can handle a month…

Well we’ve never been in this situation so lol no we can’t go a month 😂
That’s just how we roll!

We will be getting suites at universal as they’re so much cheaper - we’re spending a lot more time in universal properties this trip than we ever have before
Sadly Disney is starting to price us out
The cost of their 1BR and even the suites at all star music are just crazy prices

A suite at universal is costing us $240 and it’s over $400 at Disney (music suite)

Did you already book it? Like, if so it’s too late for regrets and dwelling on the downside will do you no good.

If you haven’t booked- I’d shorten up the Disney part of the trip. That’s a long time of togetherness if you all aren’t used to traveling like that. And that’s a long time of budget stretching at Disney prices as the room is but one aspect of the trip and Disney prices for everything tend to only go one way.
Agree with this. Being in a studio that long would be too long for me with kids. It depends on vacation style and personality though. That’s just what we prefer, others here seem fine to do it.

May I ask what is the general type of work that you do that brings in that great of an income?

The Aussie dollar is bad and we can only afford studios
Two adults and our two kids aged 9 and 6 when we come next year

We will be staying on property for around 12 nights, renting DVC (was cheaper than rooms at all stars) as we have done before when kids were smaller

I guess I’m wondering about people’s experiences with no privacy for so long - I mean we would love a 1BR but it’s not going to happen with the prices the way they are now.
We will be getting suites at universal as there so much cheaper for before our WDW stay.

What’s everyone’s opinions or experience sharing a single room with kids for 2 weeks!!
We haven't done 2 weeks, but do 12. days regularly and we don't have any issues in a studio or reg room. We just won't pay more for a 1 bdrn. Now, if we were staying with ppl. not in our immediate family, we'd definitely do 2 rooms/2 bdrm, something, but a studio for mom/dad and 2 kids (especially your aged kids) has always been fine for us.

ETA: I do think our answer may be different if we were the type to put kids to bed early on vacation etc., but we're not. We're all basically on the same schedule on vacation. If we go back for a nap/break, the expectation is the room will be quiet and dark, so if you're not sleeping, you're quietly on your tablet or you leave and explore or go to the pool etc.

We are also the same
Our kids sleep when we do

I’ve booked the studios and can’t wait!

Now we all know the secret DVC hack for booking the Cascade Cabins. Don't use your own points, but rather rent the points from someone else who will book it for you. It's a win-win. The rental person gets a few bucks thrown their way and you get the Cabins for less than the cost of a 1BR.
I don't think they are talking about a Cascade Cabin at the WL, it's a cabin at FW.

Correct. Even though the OP specifically stated they were talking about the Cabins at Ft. Wilderness, they also have since clarified that fact again.

Don’t entirely discount OKW. It’s very quiet and peaceful, which might be nice on a longer trip, and their rooms are huge. A 1bdrm there would be a nice break from togetherness, and the full kitchen would let you cook some meals to save money. Even an OKW studio is much bigger than a studio elsewhere.

Editing to add that I think a pack & play would fit in the laundry room of a 1bdrm, which would mean one kiddo could have that “bedroom” and the other could have a pack & play in the main bedroom, and no one would need to sleep in the living room.
