Can most sets be broken up and trade?

I know sets like 2001 CANNOT be broken up but can for example the POOH christams set be broken up and traded?

Some sets can be. Like the halloween set or holiday sets... Basicaly anything that comes on a seprate card can be broken up. Also a stand alone pin set can be. Like the 4 parks on one card set can be. I hate that set as all you see on lanyards are the same pins over and over....

Thanks we are going back in NOV & now I have 3 of us trading for fun & I'm looking for a way to afford it. Do you think I'm safe buying sets off of Ebay?
