Can I vent about family?

It is a rare kind of expletive (and you know exactly what kind of expletive I mean) who makes a comment like that to a mother and daughter like that. There are people with class in the world. This guy is clearly not among them. It is what it is. You won the game of life, you have the daughter who is the prize, and he's stuck with his imaginary floor scratches.

i don't think you're overreacting at all. and normally i know everyone would say "They're family, they shouldn't treat you like that" but unfortunatly not everyone's families are that nice. i'm with your DH, i'd skip Christmas.

I would stay home for Christmas and just enjoy your own family! If they are worried more about their floors than their guest its no great lose! Same goes for people who ask you to take your shoes off- thanks--I will stay home!!

I could forgive the fact that BIL is an idiot and actually thought that rubber wheels could scratch wood. However, I'm still confused on how you are supposed to move the wheelchair from room to room and yet keep the rug under it the whole time. After all, if it was going to scratch the floor then it would be done when it's being wheeled, not when it's just standing there, not moving.

I could not forgive their total disregard towards my DD. The fact that they greet you and totally ignore here is unimaginable to me and is so hateful. This is their niece for goodness sake. There is no excuse for them to ignore her. I would never set foot over there again.

Stay home, enjoy Christmas with the family that loves your DD.

Thank you all for your replies. We've decided to stay home Christmas Day. I'm sure that this will cause more problems in the future. We usually try to pick the battles that we fight very carefully but this is one that's worth fighting.

Have a wonderful Christmas. You are doing what's right for your family & that's all that matters. Tell everyone they are welcome to come visit you! (that's if you even want them there at this point!)

I don't get this

Clearly, you and a couple other people read more into my post than was written. Why do people do this? In a medium such as an internet forum, the only thing you have to go on is what was actually written. Don't try to fill in blanks with your own personal bias. If you have questions about someone's position, ask.

The wheelchair thing is bad enough, but to not even acknowledge your child? It would be a cold day in you no where before I would ever return to that house again.. Obviously their wood floors are much more important than your "invisible" child!
