Can I take a snowglobe on a plane?

Everytime we go to WDW we get a snowglobe. I have a bunch of really cute ones! Can I take them on the plane? I just worry about sending them as we like in Wisconsin and I am afraid that they would freeze.

You can no longer buy snow globes and take them on the plane. Sorry! Disney even has signs posted now warning people before they buy one.

Last year a friend of mine tried to bring a snowglobe back from Vegas for her kids and they took it from her at security, because it was liquid. Not sure if it has changed or not from last year.

I am pretty sure you can put it in checked luggage- carry on is the problem

If packaged properly for shipping, I would think the globe should not freeze. Talk to a CM about it while you're there. And you can always wait to ship it home till the day/evening before you are heading home.

Also, if your worry is it freezing while you're at work, do you have a friend or family member that is home all day and is willing to have the package mailed to their house and then you can pick it up later? Or even have it shipped to your work (if that is allowed)?

We've always had Disney ship them home for us, and it doesn't cost that much extra. Also if it ships out of state, there is no sales tax added to the purchase price. If it breaks during shipping, Disney will replace it. If it breaks in you suitcase, your out of luck. We ship just about everything back home by Disney when we make the purchse. It saves luggage space, and that chance it might get broken or stolen.

I shipped one in Dec 06 and had no problems. It arrived before our trip was even complete!

I've shipped tons of snowglobes from Disney to people all across the country and all across the world, and never had a problem with them freezing.

One issue that CAN come up in shipping (even in checked luggage) is that the changes in temperature, humidity levels, atmospheric pressure, etc. can cause air bubbles to form in the globes themselves. Disney would not consider this a defect, and thus would not likely exchange the snowglobe. On the other hand, since this will naturally occur over time anyway, it may not be that big an issue.

Yes, you CAN take them on the plane, just not in your carry-on.

My son had one shipped in AUg and it was fine. The packaging is so thick that it would take a lot for them to freeze.

You can't bring it in your carryon, but they will permit you to put it in your checked bag.

Last time we were at WDW, there were signs at all the registers reminding people about this. You can purchase the snowglobe at WDW and have them ship it directly to your home. Freezing shouldn't be an issue.

It really all depends on where you're flying out of. Flying out of Orlando so much (at least four times every fall for OSU games) I realize that the security at Orlando International Airport will let you go by with little stuff that wouldn't normally be acceptable...I once got on a big thing of toothpaste and spray deoderant without them doing anything, and even a paper-cutting knife from work accidentally slipped through the checkpoint Sure, go to Disney or Universal or whatever and buy a snowglobe...from my experience, I can say you have a 50/50 chance of getting it through security.

As mentioned, there are signs at the registers when you purchase snow globes to let you know that they can not go in your carry-on luggage. I collect snow globes and I used to guard them with my life in my carry-on bags. Since I know they are going to throw around my checked luggage, I just have them shipped home now. I've never had a problem with freezing and I'm in NH.

I work in the purchasing department of a major employer in Wisconsin. In the winter...stuff freezes often in the winter. It has nothing to do with "having a friend or neighbor" to politely take it in. It has far more to do with how much time the package is outside. If the package is in-transit over the weekend, it will be outside in a truck somewhere.

You should not have a problem with any snowglobe freezing as they are supposed to have some kind of anti-freeze in them to prevent this.

I have read on other threads that even small snowglobes are not allowed as carry on luggage even if it does fit in a zip lock bag. So be sure to check it. Just be sure to pack it really really well.
