Can I keep my email address if I change internet providers?

I'm switching from WoW to Warner Cable-lots of reasons. I've had Wow for a long time and I want to keep my email address. Anyone know if this is possible? I don't trust Wow to tell me the truth; not in their best interest.

So even though charter is your ISP, your email is still wdwmomof3@bellsouth.com?

I'm actually surprised. Why would bellsouth allow you to continue using their email? Obviously, if you have a yahoo, gmail, aol, or another "free" email address, that doesn't care who you get your internet from.

That doesn't make sense to me either. If your email address is with your ISP, then there is no way they will let you keep it for free, unless the ISP has a plan where you could pay a nominal fee per month to keep your email active.

Depends on who provides you the email. I recently changed from verizon to comcast and my xxx@verizon.net was cancelled. I never used it so it was fine by me, I only use free web based email like gmail & yahoo.

Just register for Gmail or another free provider, but keep the same username. I had to do that when my main email account was compromised. I just set up my new email account to "grab"' my old emails for a period of 90 days, and every time I'd get an email, I'd let the sender of the email know my new address. It was very easy. I get a lot less SPAM now too, because I just never updated my address with companies that I didn't want to hear from anymore.

I vote "depends"

Many years ago when we lived in Texas, I got an email address through our Internet provider/phone company. Over the years the phone company changed names several times and changed email endings, but existing customers could keep the original email. Then the phone company changed the emails so that they were now yahoo emails but with the old address. When we moved out of state and cancelled that Internet provider, the email address continues to work as a Yahoo email.

Yes, Verizon canceled my email the split second it canceled my account. Not even a grace period. But, I never really used their email anyway as I have a FEW email addresses with Gmail.

This is what I did years ago when AOL kept my email addresses hostage, even after I canceled my account and they kept billing me for several months before I finally canceled my credit card to stop them from charging me. They would keep my emails, trying to tempt me & others to go into our email accounts to retrieve them, (thus charging for services again - which I never fell for,) rather than just canceling the account so the emails bounce back to the Sender as being undeliverable.


Now, I will NEVER allow any Internet provider be my main email address and have to go through the trouble of switching and informing people. Why bother when I can have a Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo address and never have to worry about switching email addresses ever again?

is it a bellsouth.net account? ISP's don't usually allow you to use their servers if you aren't a paying customer.
