Can I join another member's reservation with mine?

Hi everyone,

I an working with a friend to transfer points to me so I can complete a reservation. However, on another thread, someone suggested having my friend make a couple of days worth of reservations at the end of my stay, and just join them with the rest of my reservation. By doing this, it would avoid both of us (but mostly her) being "banned" from transferring points for the rest of this year.

So my question is: Can I do this? If I do this, will they make me move? However, does this mean I won't be able to control that portion of my reservation?

Thanks!

I never heard of them joining reservations that are for two different people, but maybe someone else has. And your friend is not going then, correct, just you -- I think the resort needs/wants to know who is really in the room. :confused3

Assuming that both reservations are for the same room size and booking class at the same resort, and the occupants are the same, the reservations can be linked. However, even though the last portion of your stay will show your name on the reservation, DVC will basically consider it to be like any other rental transaction...meaning that your friend has "control" of the reservation itself, as far as changes or cancellations. Since the other member is a friend, it really shouldn't be much of concern as to who actually controls the reservation, is it? Unless you plan on making changes.

No, our friend isn't going. This would be like a rental (in fact it would be a rental). I am short 40 points. So instead of borrowing from 2010 or transferring the relatively small number of points, someone suggested having her make a reservation for 2 of the 7 nights I need. So I make the first 5 nights with my points, she makes the last 2 with her points, and the last 2 nights are joined to mine. Same resort. She won't be there, but I will be.

Is this possible?

Yes it is possible. Last year before we bought DVC, I rented points from a member for several nights at SSR. When we bought into DVC, I made a reservation using my developer points that would add nights on to our existing rented reservation. They were able to link the two seperate reservations and we did not have to switch rooms or check out and then check back in.

As long as the occupants names are the same and it is the same size accomodations, you will be fine.

I've done it a couple of times. A friend booked some nights, I booked some nights and we linked them. The result looked like one continuous reservation, including room keys & housekeeping.

We just did that for our August reservation. My brother (DVC Member and his family), my dh and I are staying in a 2 BDR at the AKV and then we are staying three nights in HH - we got 2 studios here (in case we need a break/privacy). He booked one night with his banked points (so he would not loose them) and next day I booked the other two nights with my points in addition to my three nights - we just linked them (and hopefully he won't be moved either).

He had to call for his night (they would not let me do it even though I had his member # and SS #). Make sure the names are exactly the same and if you list your husband first on the first reservation, it must be listed the same. Exactly. Af first I was told she could not link the reservation because the names did not match. I said what? - We are in the same room on the previous reservation (they have all the information, names, addresses, ages of children), I just booked two nights with their name - I thought it was silly. She put me on hold, came back and said okay, no problem. Not sure if it was because she added an s to my brother's name or if I told her to just reverse their names on the new reservation (since I could not remember who was first on the first night). I thought it was a bit extreme. Hope I did not confuse you, lol.
