We went to DS 6th grade dinner tonight & they gave out the boys sports award it based on first grades then sports. The kid who got never made honor roll this year & I don't think any time.

I am not real happy. And to make it worse I had many parents walk up to me & tell me they thought DS was going to get it. I thought Another boy was going to get it.

I'm curious, but how do you know that the other child never made honor roll? Is it possible that the child who won had drastically improved his grades and they felt because of that he was deserving of the award.

That the 6th grade sports award was given out tonight.

The award is supposed to be based on grades and then sports ability. (although I think I must have misread this as I can't imagine a sports award being based on academics unless there is a criteria, such as c or above to be eligible.)

The OP is upset because the child that won the award apparently, in the OP's eyes, should not have won the award as he does not have the academic qualifications to win. This was based on her impression that he was never included on the honor roll.

Other people thought her son should have won the award.

This is a vent about a 6th grade child winning an award. The OP thinks he does not deserve it as much as her own child or one other.

Perhaps it is as simple as he had another commitment and was not there? I don't think that is very good criteria to base a determination on.

That is a bit odd. I can see there being a minimum GPA requirement but a sports award is a sports award and should be based on the sports aspect first and foremost. Would they also only give academic awards to people who can show a minimum ability in sports? It seems inconsistent to apply both criteria to one without also applying both to the other.

Sport awards have to have a minimum GPA, but the child the excels in sports will win, not the straight A child who was just mediocre throughout the school year.

Does it really matter? I can't believe adults would come to you and say they thought your son was going to be the winner- they are putting too much thought and energy into this. So you're upset and your son is disappointed, by tomorrow he will have forgotten all about it. Don't dwell on this.

I understand you are just venting and you and your son & family were disappointed but you are basing an opinion of the boy who did win on your own perception when truthfully it sounds like you have no factual idea what the boy's actual grades were throughout the year.

Try not to dwell on it. There will always be people who win awards and people who feel the winner wasn't as deserving enough to win as someone else.
