Can I do this when checking my bags using RAC?

Ok. Now that Airtran is on board I have a question regarding checking my bag at the RAC desk at my resort. Well first let me explain. My last trip using SW to Orlando, my golf clubs didn't make the trip and then never showed up at all. Yes they were stolen. Probable at my home airport. I wont go in to details since I have already posted my experience back in Feb.

What I would like to know is since we have a car and will return it at the airport, can I check everything BUT my clubs at the RAC desk and then check my clubs in person at the counter at the airport. I know that I am being overly paranoid about my clubs now, but the are now brand spanking new and if my stuff sits around at the resort most of the day since my flight wouldn't leave until around 8pm, I keep thinking they are ripe for the picking. If I do wait until I get to the airport and try to check the clubs will that send up a red flag in the computer since I already checked my other bags earlier in the day?

I could say that the golf course stored them for me and didn't drop them off in time for me to include them with the rest of my luggage, but like I said I dont want to have any security problems going home.

Has anyone done this or something similar?

Thank you

Why not ask the RAC desk about this early in your trip? Then you'll know your options. I imagine they have had situations like this before when people have last minute rounds of golf or go shopping after RAC. But remember you will actually be checked in with boarding passes when you use RAC.

I wouldn't lie about where the clubs have been though. :confused3

Edited to add that we encountered a very knowledgable RAC agent at the GF. If you'll be at that resort during your stay, I'd pop down and ask at that desk if it were me. All of them have been good but that guy really knew his stuff.

I don't think it will be a problem to check an additional piece of luggage once you arrive at the airport.

I check in online all the time from home and get my boarding passes, then check luggage once I arrive at the airport.

Good point, Carol. I've done the same. On the other hand, I would want to check ahead to minimize any hassles.

But, when you check in online they haven't yet printed out your luggage tags and you indicate that you are planning on checking X pieces of luggage.

The difference in this case is that the luggage tags will have been printed and the manifest will indicate that sweetp has checked in and has checked X pieces of luggage. It is likely that that they can still reopen the reservation and add more pieces of luggage, but it is a different situation to using online check-in and then checking in luggage at the airport.

Y'know, I don't see why you can't do that. I mean, if you tried to bring your clubs through security as a carry-on, you'd have to go back to the front counter and check them through, right? So why wouldn't the airline simply let you check them in when you first get there, even if all your other checked luggage has already gone through. Who's to say you didn't JUST purchase that set of clubs on your way to the airport? ;)

Why you didn't check your clubs with the rest of your luggage probably makes no difference whatsoever. Either this will be allowed, which I imagine it should be, or it won't, IMO. I'd suggest contacting your airline rather than trying to check with RAC. They're the ones who will be deciding yes or no once you get to the airport.

Great, now you have me worried about my clubs.....

While it is true that it is the airline's decision, if he calls a general helpline the person he reaches will probably have no clue. RAC is an unusual service. I think the RAC people at WDW have probably had all kinds of situations by now and will be able to answer his question.

UConnJack, if you will entrust your clubs to an airline, I think you should trust RAC. That end would be the least of my worries.
