OK I am turning to all of you for help. I have to bring baked beans to a block party monday. Do you think they will come out good if I do them all day in the crock pot? I also don't have a recipe for beans I was just going to open a few cans add brown sugar and bacon. Is that all I have to do??? Thanks in advance for the help I know I will get ;) . Happy 4th to all

Add some ketchup, and, yes, they do work in the crock pot! Have a great day!

Maybe some onions, too?

My friend always makes her pot-luck baked beans in a crockpot, and they are excellent!

Good luck! Let us know how they turn out! :)

2 cans beans, (or one of the really big ones) we use showboat
1/2 cup hhoney
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cup bbq sauce
1 lb chopped cooked bacon
2 tbsp bacon drippings]
1 small onion, i prefer a sweet onion here
1/2 cup chopped green peppers,

add all to crock, over low heat, PLEASE NOTE REMEMBER TO STIR OFTEN AS SUGARS AND TOMATOES BOTH BURN EASILY AND WILL CARMALIZE INTO A NASTY GLOB BEFORE YOU REALIZE IT:)

Gosh! I want to come to your house Froggy! Do you do the beans to go with the BBQ?

Froggy

Sounds great and let us know when you are going to make your next batch.

By the way, if you add a little "Dave's Insanity Sauce" you'll have a dish that will really light your fire.

I thought baked beans were the reason the crock pot was invented! :rotfl:
Froggy, your recipe sounds great!

Very close to mine! I think ours calls for molasses instead of honey, though! Either way, really good!

You can also use all sorts of different beans. Ours last year had cans of Bushes Baked Beans, black beans, red kidney beans, navy beans, etc. Got SO many compliments on it :) And it was quite festive! For more color, you can add red and yellow peppers along with the green :)

actually i cook mine in a cast iron bean pot on stove, but to answer the ?? as to when, i am currently waiting on bacon to fryu to put into beans. Making batch now:) and yeah beans go weith bbq... which btw is in oven precooking in prep for artip to the grill later today, made bbq sauce this week, have 25 lbs of meat slow cooking as we speak,, veggie prep begins around 11 and bread is getting prepped as soon as i get beans on yeah i am making home made bread

Yes, it sounds like my recipe except I use molasses instead. Also for the onions, I buy a bag of those small pearl onions and dump it in. Lots of sweet soft onions when done. And if you add the hot dogs as well, you've got hotdog bean bake! YUMMY!

Have you ever seen the can of Molasses Butter Beans? They have a recipe on them, it calls for 3 different kinds of beans (pork and beans, butter beans, and red kidney beans) 1# hamburger cooked, the onion, and bacon and ketchup, ummmm oh 3/4 C white sugar and 3/4c brown sugar,,, anyway, I always just use the recipe on the cans!! Its awesome - I didnt think I'd like hamburger in my baked beans, but now I wouldnt have it any other way, I always brink them to picnics (church pot lucks too) and get rave reviews!!

and yes, I always use the crockpot... now that you mention it, I should put some on now!! lol

I haven't made them yet, but I got a number of great crockpot bean recipes from www.recipezaar.com I have almost 200 recipes in my cookbook on recipezaar now. We used the To Die For Roast all winter almost every Sunday and it is now one of our favourite ways to make a roast. Just another suggestion.

Rolllllll that beautiful bean footage

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have one more question. How long do I cook them??? Should I start them tonight for a 4:00 picnic tomorow or throw them together in the morning. Also do I have to cook the bacon first, I know when you do them in the oven people use raw bacon, so why wont it work in the crock pot?? Just wondering:confused:

I started my beans at 2pm (after reading your post!) and they are ready now. I put them on high for an hour, stirred them once, decided they were burning on the side (this crocpot burns things if I dont watch it!) turned it on low for an hour, and they are hot hot hot!! but yummy...

personaly I cook my bacon whether I use oven or crockpot. The oven dries the beans out more then a crockpot, so I always drain my beans before throwing them in the crockpot. (I also cook my onions too tho!) You can always microwave your bacon - use several paper towels!!

If you use precooked (canned) baked beans, then only a couple of hours is needed... if you use dry beans they need to soak and soften overnight...
