I've heard that disney transportation is horrible, both to and from the airport as well as around the park. Is this true? If so, does anyone have any suggestions?
Disney Transport operates between resorts and parks. They do not go to the airport. The new Magical Express service will not be part of Disney Transport, and will be a separate operation.
You'll hear many opinions about Disney Transport. Most good, some not so good. Considering the hundreds of thousands of people that they move in such a short period of time, Disney Transport does a (imho) wonderful job.
unless you have a buch of little ones in strollers, save the $$ and use their transportation. you'll find most of the drivers are pretty humerous as well
We've only used Mears twice. We don't like visiting two, three or four other resorts before finally arriving at ours, so, the last few trips, we got a town car.
Disney transportation, from the resorts to the parks, is great. We don't have any complaints. Well, other than the time we went to the Wilderness Lodge. We got a tour of the campground, since the bus shares with them. We wasted a lot of time. This is one reason I'm hesitant to book at the WLV.
We love the transportation system at WDW!! Dd says she doesn't feel like she's really there until that first bus ride. Sure, you sometimes have to wait 10 minutes or so for a bus. We have never found it to be a big deal.
The only time we have had an issue with the bus system was when we were at the Polynesian. Seemed that we had a long wait for the MGM bus. It took at least 25-30 minutes. But other than that one instance it's been hassle free. Thanks Tyler and fellow purple pants!!
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if they've rented a car instead of using Disney transportation when staying at Wilderness Lodge. I've read a lot and most people seem to think the transportation is adequate. But some say it takes over an hour to get from parks to Wilderness Lodge. Any advice?
Thanks!
We had a car when we stayed at WL. We only used it once to go to DTD. We wanted it in case we had lots of packages to bring back to the resort. We then took a tour of some of the resorts on the way back to WL.
We also used it to go off site, but always used Disney transport to get to and from the parks, the Poly for the Luau, and CR for Chef Mickey's.
If I didn't want to go offsite, I would be just fine taking the Magic Express and staying onsite the whole trip!
We always use the Disney transportation. And have used Mears once. No problems with either. Kids love riding the buses to/from the parks. (They don't ride bus to school.) When we have rented a car it has been b/c we were there for DH's softball tournament and needed to drive to games. Even then we always us the buses to go to the parks. We do usually drive to DTD if we have a car.
Thanks for all the advice! Sounds like we'll be fine taking Tyler to parks. We are planning on doing a day/night at DTD. Is it better to take a taxi or the buses from WL? Another question: I'm new to this sight and am curious. Everyone keeps referring to my DH, dd, etc. Can someone tell me what those mean?
Thanks! I love this sight~there's soooooooo much info~I don't think I'll get it all read before our trip in March. Any other tips for a first time Wilderness Lodge guest? We stayed off-site last time we were in Disney!
We used to rent a car til one morning we were waiting at the TTC for the gates to open and noticed the people being delivered right to MK. Tried the bus and never rented another car unless staying a few extra days off site. Had a few slow pickups but mostly just great. And you meet nice people and bus drivers. Also its a shorter walk to the bus than to the car when you are tired.
