okay, so my hubby brought home the card to exchange on our next cruise for the refillable mug. Well, it’s that time but we can’t locate our card. Are we SOL or has anyone ever experienced this before? I can say this.....at least it’s harder to lose a MUG! *wink*

Not sure you can actually use the same card on another cruise. I mean, you can, but I've read some reports that you will be charged the refillable mug cost the first time of each of your cruise that you use a card.

I have heard that they do charge you even if you bring your old mug or card back. It is meant to be for one cruise not lifetime.

Not to go off topic but...there's a refillable beer mug??? How does one learn more about that???:earsboy:

It's a beer mug that is 22 oz for which you pay $16.95 or so, then for the rest of the cruise you get 22 oz beers for the price of a 16 oz beer, plus you can take the glass home. Some people don't take it home and instead take home the card or token that can be used in exchange for a fresh mug at the bar.

We purchased the beer card on our first cruise in 2017. We have used it on 3 cruises since then. With plans to use it on 4 more cruises this year.

No server has ever questioned taking the card at the first of the cruise. They gladly take it and sell my husband a beer :)

To answer your original problem about a lost card - at one time, you could buy them on eBay for a reduced price!

On our cruise last year, they were checking people accounts and charging them for the full price if it was not purchased on that cruise. There have been reports of it on the boards too. I ma not saying people don't do it, but Disney is maybe starting to try to stop it. Like the coffee card issue.

Same situation for me
I've used the card without getting charged anew in the last 3-4 cruises
So unless they changed the policy since Aug'19, I'd say the claim they are not accepting them anymore from previous cruises is #fakenews

We just cruised on the Fantasy almost 2 weeks ago. I had a coffee card from either my 2017 or 2019 cruise with me. I gave it to the cm at the Cove Cafe and told him it was an old card. He still let me use it, I was surprised that he did. I bought my dh the beer mug on our 2017 cruise. I think he used it one time on the 7night cruise and hasn't used it at home any. Maybe I should sell it on ebay. Lol!!

I’ve looked everywhere I can think of. I’ve found everything BUT that.......so hubby just ordered another one but he’s paying for this one. *wink*. He’s already said he’ll bring this one home as there’s less risk of losing this! lol.

I've been using the same mug/card since 2004 I think (still have an old ESPN mug) have never been questioned about paying for a new mug when returning with one or a card.

I "re-used" my beer card, originally purchased in ?2014?, on the Magic 11/2019. No problems and I was not charged for a new mug. Since I've never taken a mug home, I don't think it would be fair of DCL to charge me for a 2nd.

My husband was convinced we couldn't use the old card ... so now we have two. Every crew member we asked said the cards don't change and they can be used from cruise to cruise. So next cruise the better half will use one and he can donate his other to his older brother. :teeth:

I keep mine in my "old" lanyard.... have you checked there????

We keep our tucked into our passport as the only reason we have a passport is for DCL. LOL

They would be charging you again for the right to the discount that the card/token/mug includes. This was not likely intended to be a "take it home and bring it back again" discount. While they may have turned a blind eye in the past to people reusing it, it is possible that they may begin enforcing it at some point. Like any other rule on DCL, enforcement will be at the whim of whichever cast member you encounter. So it might be possible to reuse it once on a cruise and then have an issue the next time.

The easiest way would be to use dated tokens/cards.

Or to automatically apply on the stateroom folio one Beer Mug charge per transaction. You come with two tokens, you're charged two beer mug unless you've already bought two on this cruise.

TBH I believed DCL did this, as I read posts in this thread I understand I was mistaken, however it looks like this could be something that could easily be done. Guests could always dispute the charges at guest services if there is a mistake.

My understanding was the card is provided so you can take it home if you don’t want to travel with the mug. We’ll likely find it YEARS from now and will then have two. I only hope we’re still cruising DCL unless we’re priced out at that point. *wink*. Thus why we need to save every cent we can.....on every ounce we can....that’s money towards another vacation. *smile*. (It’s the little things).

You can bring popcorn buckets from the park and past cruises for refills - why would using the beer mug or card on multiple cruises be any different? You are still paying for a beer!

If they were to charge me for the beer mug when I bring back my card from a previous cruise, would they let me take two mugs home after the cruise? My original purchase allowed me to take a mug home, so it seems like I would not have received that mug I paid for on the first cruise.
