I Will be graduating from college this December (woo hoo!), and to celebrate the occasion I want to take a trip to Disney with some friends. Well, seeing as we have spent all our money on tuition we were looking into camping... In a tent... In January. We are all mid/early twenties so the tent aspect isn't a big deal, and this is a bucket list thing for me. My question is how bad is the cold weather? I am from MS and also did the College Program spring of 13, so I understand the ways if Florida weather. But have I completely lost my mind? Will we survive without them hating me for dragging them into this? Any tips? I love Disney! It is my happy place! I have worked extremely hard to finish school while working one to three jobs at a time. I need my Disney/escape from reality fix, but am I crazy?

I've been there in January when it was 20 degrees. You could bring a small heater if you have electric available.

If you're prepared it is certainly doable. Heater, sleeping bag, blankets and warm clothes. Or it may be 80 during the day and 50's at night, you never know.

Awesome! Congrats, btw...

I camped this past Feb. in a tent. It might have been warmer than usual; temps went down to 40 at night. We used air mattresses, lots of blankets and a space heater so we were FINE!

I say it beats a wet August or 100+ degrees any day, plus the days were warm enough for swimming! Make sure you hit that hot tub at the Meadows Rec. Area, too!

For me, NO WAY! ;) For college age kids, I would say very doable. Just bring sleeping bags that will keep you warm in case of very cold (which doesn't happen often) even in Jan. ('but' it 'can')!!

Take a small heater - but be extremely vigilant in a tent - and don't leave it on unattended - OR at night!!

Have fun!! Sounds like you earned it!! pixiedust:

I know how unpredictable the lovely Florida weather can be. I guess at this point if I'm going, I'm going rain or shine. I would much ether pack extra blankets than camp during the lovely August heat! Any tips for camping in a tent there? I've stayed at the campgrounds before so I'm familiar with the area, but any helpful bits as far as safety of items and such would be great.

Looks like the weather is covered. Being from MS, you have a pretty good idea what "January" is like. One thing I have seen others mention besides a space heater. Since you will have electricity, borrow someone's electric blanket. Other's have said they are much better than a space heater.

There is another active thread about keeping valuables safe when tent camping. Overall, the Fort is pretty safe. I have never 'lost' anything and I leave chairs, toys, grill, bicycles (locked), and lights outside. Of the reports on here about items getting stolen, it sounds more like easy opportunity items, not someone going through a tent rummaging through everything. Basically, lock things in your car you want to keep safe. For smaller items, there are lock boxes at the Outpost Guest Services building.
