i was wondering if anyone know if it is ok to videotape in any of the attractions. i have recently purchased a really great digital camcorder. i would love to tape POTC and many other inside attractions.

dont know if this is permitted or is it not officially permitted but nobody tries to stop you.

the camera does not use a light. actuallly it uses a thin infrared beam.

hopefully someone has had experience in taping and can give some good advice.

i taped small world and splash mountain with no problem. Technically it's not ok but nobody really said anything, of course it's not like I made it really public that I was taping.

We got our camera before our April trip. We were on our honeymoon and I had the digital video camera while DW had the digital camera. At AK I filmed everything except Dinosaur, rapids, and the live shows. Reason being, didn't do the rapids or live shows, but Dinosaur was really jerky and didn't want to risk anything happening to the camera's. At MK I video taped everything and I do mean everything. Well except for Mickey's Phillarmagic. Wouldn't really seem wise to do that espically since it was in 3D. Now I filmed Pirates, splash, Haunted mansion, live shows, C.O.P. and the time keeper. Don't think I was supposed to do those 2. I filmed the parades and at Epcot fimed the Norway ride. Now the last day we went back to Pirates and the voice of GOD came on and said no flash or anything of that nature.

Needless to say that someone either in our boat or the boats in front or behind us used the flash. The thing is, if your camera has the night shot plus feature, it will not use the external light so it should not bother anyone else or the great guys of Disney.

Just make sure you don't walk and film...or your whole experience will be one long disney ride...;)

I don't know Disney's official policy, but a word of caution:

They monitor those rides using night-vision enabled cameras. If your digital camera has a night-vision light, they will be able to see it (even though others can't) it and will make an announcement over the PA system to turn your camera off. I would be SO embarrased if that were to happen to me! :)

Once again, I'm not passing judgement or saying one way or the other what Disney's policy is. Just giving you a heads up! :)

But is it okay if you are not using 'night-shot' or a light?

I have recorded the rides for my kids. We have a special DVD I made with just the rides on it. My kids love it! It's almost like they can ride anyride, anyday! I recorded normally..........no night vision or light on the camera on. I would just be discreet about it. ::yes::

I've never heard that you couldn't use your camera or video, just not the flash.

Once again, I don't know what Disney's policy is.

I don't know if it's permissible or not with or without the "night light".

Seems that I remember most rides give instructions regarding what types of photography are permitted. I tend to follow the directions given for each attraction. If flash photography is not permitted, then I make sure the flash is off, or if using my camcorder I make sure the light is off.

If they specifically say that videotaping or photography are not permitted, then I don't do it. I'd be too afraid of getting caught and being pointed out....I'd just want to crawl under a rock if that happened .

So I think the answer to the OP question is that it depends on the attraction.

I think part of the whole reasoning behind not video taping a ride is because it's trademark/copyright infringement. So technically, I don't think it's permissible to tape any of the rides, although some people do.

I also know that some people have been caught and asked to turn off their cameras. They will delay a ride until someone complies with turning off a camera.

I guess each individual just has to decide if they want to take a chance with video taping and hope they don't get called out over a loud speaker.

Each attraction/ride had different rules about photography and videotaping. For most of the shows, the standard rule was no flash photography and no videotaping with external lighting. If photography or videotaping wasn't allowed, primarily for Copyright reasons, the Cast Members would state so. The Country Bear Jamboree attraction was so specific they stated what part of the show that flash photography would be allowed (at the end when all five curtains are up).

DH actually video taped R&R Coaster! He wrapped the camera's strap tightly around his hand and heald it tight to his chest.

When you view the video, all you see is flashing lights, pounding music and DH screaming! What a hoot!

We videotaped lots of rides and didn't use the light and it looks great, nice way for the kids to remember for next time

I've video taped a majority of the rides/attractions (except ones like RnR, ToT, Dinosaur, or Star Tours.) I've asked various CMs about it and they've said that as long as external lighting or flashes aren't used or unless specifically mentioned in the 'preshow', that it's ok to do it. The only times I was ever asked to stop was 1. when we arrived late during Timekeeper; one of the CMs came over and politely asked me to stop, without calling attention to me (she said it very quietly), and 2. During the Alien Encounter preshow (in the hallway before the teleportation demo).

On the last trip, a CM for Dinosaur said I was welcome to try videotaping that, but because of the jerkiness of the ride and the extreme darkness that she strongly advised against it.

well thanks to all who replied.

i am just going to tape whatever attraction i can until i am informed otherwise. i will not use the nightshot or supernightshot feature ill just shoot the video normally.

Geez I been taping WDW rides, shows and attractions for nearly 10 years now and never had a problem. There are obvious ones where it wouldn't be wise to be holding a camera like RnR ToT and SpaceMt.Ya might get bopped in the head or worse yet bop another guest with your camera!! :earseek:

As long as you aren't blinding other riders with a light you should be okay!!!

Have fun!!! ::MickeyMo

I've only been told I couldn't video tape at WDW twice: Once during the Pointer Sisters performance at the 25th Press Party. I never heard anything about "NO TAPING". But I do have the video up until that point! I did tape a lot of other live performances during that trip.

And the other time was at the beginning of R&Rollercoaster. The CM checking riders before the launch told me I couldn't tape. I had taped the launch before and no one ever said anything. I just love hearing that count down when I can't be there! Maybe it has something to do with musical copyrights?
