Probably in the next month or so I am thinking about buying a new digital camera. I really like my Kodak camera, but its only a 4 mp and its probably time to upgrade it. I've had it almost 3 years. It still takes beautiful photos, but I want something with some more features. I want something that would be able to get some night shots, fireworks, etc. I really don't want to spend more than $200, but could go up to $250. I know that there are quite a few people here who don't like Kodaks, but I've really liked mine. I've also been looking at the Canon cameras.

Any recommendations would be awesome! Thanks!

I just got a Fuji Finepix S700, 7.1 mp, 10x zoom. I am still learning how to use everything but so far it seems to do a very nice job.

Hi, Yzerbear19!

I bought my second digital camera specifically for my Disney trip. Before that I had owned a Fuji Finepix 2650, which was clunky and 2MP, so it was definitely time for an upgrade! I ended up choosing the Canon Powershot SD800 IS. It takes beautiful photos. I especially enjoy using the widescreen mode for scenic shots, and the image stabilization (IS) helped a lot when doing close ups of food. There are various scene modes that I used during my trip, including fireworks, aquarium, kids&pets, and night. Another plus is that it is compact, and light. I was able to film decent video, as well. It comes with its own battery. I only charged the battery once during my week-long stay, and took about 350 photos.

The Powershot SD1000 has similar features but is only about $170 or so. Check out Dell's site, it usually has cheaper deals than Amazon.

I recently got a Fuji f40fd reduced to $179 including shipping - no tax... less a $50 rebate... less $100 in Amazon gift credits for having opened 2 $100 section 529 accounts at California ScholarShare brought my net cost down to .... $29.

$29 Bargain!

Although it's NOT the slickest and hottest, latest and greatest compact digicam - it counts in MY check book as the "most" digicam fer the least money. Among its' strengths are decent technical reviews online, a larger than usual sensor at 1/1.6" in size with 8.3MP, maximum ISO 2000 with what I consider a usable maximum of about ISO 800, 30FPS VGA movie mode with sound and what is not obvious is it shoots pretty fast and focuses well. On the negative side - what is obvious is it has a limited set of manual settings (awww) and no fine control over white balance, limited shooting modes, and no TRUE image stabilisation (it pretends to have an IS setting but lacks a lense or sensor shifting design - and leacks an electronic shift function... rather it "claims" IS capability by boosting ISO and hence shooting speed.... and simply does not count in my opinion). Alas, it is a competant and fast handling pocket digicam with HIGH usable ISO.

Unfortunately, the Amazon 529 plan gift card promotion is long over - and the Amazon price on this camera just went up about $10 and the rebate ended a week or so ago.

I just got the Canon Powershot A 630 before our last trip, for under $200 on Amazon, and I am very pleased with it.
The pics were much better quality than I had been used to.
It has gotten a very good rating with consumer reports. (If that means anything.)
Happy shopping!
