signed up for my two USATF certified 10ks yesterday! they're on back to back days though so that weekend will be a beginner's version of GSC i guess, :rotfl:. one is the Runner's World 10K that is part of their Half Marathon weekend. Anybody else here doing that one? i figure between those two, the 10 miler i did in may, my first half in june, and my second coming up in november, i will have a good sampling of times to pick from when submitting a coral placement time. :goodvibes

Where is everyone eating after they run on Sunday morning??

i had originally made a reservation for akershus for that morning (because i mean, princess breakfast after the princess race just made sense, lol) but after talking to my mom, we decided to move it to monday. we're just going to decide what we feel like afterwards instead of having to worry about rushing back to get showered/changed/etc and then back to one of the parks.:thumbsup2

as for getting a bib for the race, as the previous posted said there is charity opportunities that you would have to raise money for and i think i remember seeing something somewhere about travel companies that also had bibs similar to what you had done previously. i can't remember where i saw that though. maybe the same place i saw the charity information.

Oh the race....about 74 with...wait for it....80% humidity !:scared1: made it through so thanks for the positive vibes ! Thought the conditions were worse than PHM in Feb...sun was out too so that just added to the misery.

For those doing the PHM and glass slipper...be prepared for heat if it happens ! my pace for the race was over one min higher than my training. I did finish in the allocated time and happy to earn the coast to coast.

CONGRATS on getting it done! I've been hearing about he conditions for the past few days... sounds like a Florida summer in southern Cali! Yes, I'm acclimated to it... but, NO, it still isn't what I'd want to race in, lol! I think everyone who pulled it off should get an extra medal, just for braving the heat :cool1:

My DD and I will be running that 10k as well!

The only other officially sanctioned way is to run with a designated charity, but then you have to raise money. Disney does not allow bib transfers, and they don't have a waitlist.

As for unsanctioned ways.....people do sell bibs, but you would have to run under that person's name. And there's that whole trust issue with that type of transaction.

Thanks! The first few charity options I looked at were sold out. I found a couple that have Glass Slipper Challenge spots available.... looking into that. Most of the travel operators are sold out as well - waiting to hear back from one. This sold out much faster this year!! I know I didn't register until mid-September last year... and I don't think it sold out before December.

Hopefully it's because they're limiting the # of registrants so that it's not as crowded! :crowded:

Any one have a training program they LOVE? I was going to use a modified version of Hal Higdon's Novice 2. Doing the GSC and worried about conditioning my legs to run 2 days in a row. What plans are you using?

i used this one for my first half back in June so I will be using this one again. I did switch the days around a little bit so that I am running T, Th, F, Sun going into the Philly Half in November. Following that, I will repeat the program but switch the Friday runs to Saturday and up to 10k mileage to get ready for GSC.

I have RNR Philly coming up in a week and a half, and I'm hoping to be able to be able to update my corral. Although I have been running more volume since I'm training for a full (hit 57/miles for the week last week..new best!), I don't feel like I've been running well. Plus, it's still been warm/muggy in the northeast, so I'm nervous it won't cool down. If it's warm I know I can find my way to the finish line no problem - but all chances of a PR will be shot. I guess we'll see what happens.

I originally signed up to volunteer at RNR Philly! It is my mom's birthday though and I think she decided she wants to go out to brunch for it so I may not be able to make it down now. :(

I am still trying to figure out my ADRs for the kids races and 10K. My kids are running on Friday. I know the DL kid races were a disaster, so I'm hoping they will be better by the PHM, but I will judge by marathon weekend results. I have 2 CM ADRs booked and don't know which one to keep.

I am running the 10K on Saturday. The race starts at 5:30am and I should be in A. Maybe B, depending on registrations. I will finish in >60 minutes. Let's even say 80 minutes in case I decide to take lots of photos so I can focus during the 1/2. I don't stick around for post-race events, so I should be on a bus by 7am, right? I head to Contemporary and can meet my family for an 8:05 CM ADR, right? I just don't know if I'm cutting anything too close.

The other option is that we do the kid races on Friday morning (200m and 400m dashes) and head to CM for an 11:25 ADR. Kid races start at 8:45am. I think that might be harder, given the DL gong show.

What do you think is more realistic? CM is a must-do for my family and it needs to be one of those two times.

The Saturday plan seems a little tight. You may not catch a bus right away, and traffic varies. But the monorail might be another option. (If you aren't too sweaty after the race you could just go to CM)

Last year the kid's dashes didn't start til 9:15 (the Mickey Mile was at 8:45). Hard to know when they'd be done.

Hmmm...they're both close, but it seems like there would be less variability with the 10k than with the kid's races. And it seems easier to get one person from the finish to CM than a group.

I have a reservation question. I'm running the 10k on Sat and DGD is running the 200m kids race. Should we have a problem making an 11am reservation for Norway?

Thanks Cripey, PrincessV, MRSAR, and EmilyDisney for your congrats! Love how we all support each other! Truly hope and pray the PHM/GSC has really, really cool weather which for me is about 50 and low humidity and a cloud cover!...perfect running weather I say! Also hope rundisney finds a better way to get the expo moving along and get more merchandise...read some girls who went later to the expo avoided the crowds but also didn't get any shirts etc.

Why can't rundisney let us preorder shirts etc like they let us preorder pins, necklaces and last year's Dooney princess bags ?:confused3

Also got a nice congrats from my massage therapist yesterday who said he has had a lot of after race folks who had many issues going on but he had to congratulate me as I had very few...good training and recovery he said... I'm thinking not so much my training but my great support from the thread!! :cool1:

I decided it was too much of a hassle to try to figure out when we would be finished for the 10K and the half to mess with late breakfast or lunch reservations either day....Went with dinner at Tony's (or going off site to Maggianno's) on Sat and dinner at Garden Grill on Sunday :woohoo:

Same here - no lunch plans. Just dinners at Grand Floridian Cafe on Sat and California Grill on Sunday! I'm trying to stay close to the resort both days cause I'm not really sure what to expect from either my legs or exhaustion from the early wake-up call! :)

Thanks! I agree about easier to move just me than the whole family. And I am planning to head straight to CM after the race. My DH will bring a bag with a change of clothes and deodorant for the restaurant. I'll shower later.

And I forgot about the monorail! I think that will make the Saturday plan a success. We have BOG on Friday night anyway. :)

Hi - you mention training runs at night- I know the race is early - but how did you shift training to incorporate some night runs?

thanks-

I'm in!!!! It will be me, dd and dsil.

I just did the 5K this past weekend at Disney to get one runDisney event under my belt.

A few ideas I have are to pack comfort things from home so that u get lots of good sleep. I brought my pillow and soft castle blanky.

Training runs in the middle of the night are a must. Trying to convince myself at 4am that I had to eat and drink was hard!!!

I cannot wait! I changed the name of my blog so that I can document the process.

I am a walk/runner. My PR for a mile is 14:43 but I'm more consistently a 16 min mile pace. I will be busting my butt improving on that for the next year.

If anyone has any questions for someone who has been to Princess weekend I'd be glad to try to answer. I only competed in the 5K but I spent lots of time at the expo.

Glad to be a part of this group!!!

Just found this thread from a link on the Feb 2014 code watch thread. :goodvibes

I started running about 6 months ago and will do my first race at the end of this month (a local 5K). I'm signed up for the 10K at the Princess weekend, and am so excited to do a Disney event :cool1: I was really hoping to be able to stay at one of the Epcot resorts, but was so surprised at the high prices for this time of year! Am thinking now of booking AoA, but wondering how the transportation is from the value resorts :confused3

I'll have to go back and read through more of this thread (almost 200 pages :faint:) and get all the good tips. Hope to see some of you at the race :thumbsup2

Where is everyone eating after they run on Sunday morning??

We're doing a celebration dinner that night at Cinderella's Castle! After the race, we'll head back to the resort and eat something there, get showered and changed, and then head to Magic Kingdom. I like this plan because I don't want to be rushed or stressed about getting to a reservation after the race. We did the same thing last year and it worked really well. Of course, lasy year I was "just" running the half-marathon...we'll see how I feel after 2 early wake-ups and 2 races!
