Thanks! :goodvibes

Thank you! :goodvibes

Congrats to you too! A half is such a huge commitment! I did the phm this year and do plan to do the 2014...but I am just almost scared to do any other half. :worship: that you are able to.

As for your pace and if you can stop for pics... well, this last year(and I am not sure if this is normal since it was my one and only point of reference) the lines were long... I had thought I could budget about 2 minutes per mile for each stop. There is no way that I could have done that and kept under the pace I wanted. Now, if you were just trying to finish and didn't care to stay under a certain pace for yourself... AND your corral afforded you a buffer between yourself and the sweepers... AND the lines were indeed not too long... you might be able to stop for pics and not get swept. I think those three things have to be in balance though for it to happen (if you continue to be at a 15 min/mile pace come next spring). However...I would highly suspect that with more training and commitment you will be even more below the pace requirement come next spring. :goodvibes

Thank you so much. I still am shocked that it went as well as it did.

:cool1: Way to go to you as well!!! Isn't it funny what can motivate us? I was determined to not let the 20 something behind me catch up to me (since I passed her about half way through the race) She finished about 40 seconds behind me... and told me that I was her motivation. (so maybe without me she would have finished with a slower time) If I were you, and I knew it was close for me to come in within the first 50 or so... I too would have been booking it. Can you imagine being the 51st? :faint:

Congrats on your pretty medal! Any pictures you want to share? :goodvibes

the etiquette guide is too funny!!!

Thanks Annmarieda! I certainly understand that everything will need to be in perfect balance. I do hope I get faster. For me it's all about having enough of a buffer to complete the race but enjoy everything a long the way.

OMG, that's hilarious! Was there a "please no peeing in the bushes" paragraph?

That's exactly what my aunt asked! She was a big fan of the bushes around the WDW Speedway. Oddly enough, I only saw one set of PoPs on the race route, around the 30k mark on the marathon route. Maybe they had more on the rest of the marathon route, but for the portion the 8k covered, just the one set! I can't even imagine.

Funny that you say that, because as a 20-something, I ran an 8k in DC once and followed behind a man in his 70s (I looked at the results afterwards to check his age!). At first I thought, "There's no way this old guy is going to beat me," but at the end he was a great pacer.

I would have fallen over and cried had I been 51! I'm sad enough I was 36, and they only counted the times for the first 30.

And of course, it's not so much pretty as it is shiny, but I like it. Just two dog-tags, and the other sides have the marathon logo and my name engraved. I realized after they finished engraving it that it's a half marathon finisher. I think they ordered too many for the half and so decided to give them to the 8k finishers - hence only the top 50 in each 8k category got one!

Hi all - joining in! I ran the Wine & Dine 1/2 in November 2012 (first Disney race ever) and immediately knew I wanted to C2C. My plan is the Princess 1/2 in February and the Disneyland 1/2 over Labour Day. Very excited! :cool1:

I'm solo running, as every year. I was planning on doing it as Ariel with the tail, but the difficulty of the design and cost is making me think of doing Jasmine. I can still do either, just more thought and design to make a tight looking fin but something I can run in without any impedance. Any ideas what would look cooler? I've already done Princess Peach, Rapunzel, Snow White; so looking for either Ariel or Jasmine.

Also, went for my first run since PHM this year, did not go well at all. I got married, honeymoon, got sick and now getting better. I made it 2 miles in 16:07, but this sickness is still here preventing me. I had too much pressure in my head for the illness I had to stop, plus its mid 80s and humid today.

I beg of you, no tail! This year I got stuck behind 2 girls running with tails. At times they didn't hold on to them. and they dragged behind them. They were matched with my pace most of the race and you don't know how many times I nearly stepped on one of the tails. Towards mile 8-9 I was ready to step on them just to bring them down(yes, I know, not very Princess like). It was so annoying.

I think you have plenty of time to get faster and even if you dont improve (which... I doubt you wouldn't)... you will still be able to have a good time!!!

Those are super cool!!! I am sorry that you didn't get your time counted though. :sad2:

As for the old guy... It is amazing that there are so many older people who are sooo much faster than sooo many of us! Here there are always some older people who are in the front, well ahead of the rest of us slow pokes. ;)

I have only been running a couple of months, but I am starting a half training program soon. I am really hoping to get the Coast to Coast medal with the Princess Half and then the DL Half.

Good luck! The phm is so much fun!!!

This is my plan for next year as well!

Set a 10k PR yesterday and learned lessons in the process. I learned yes I really do need to eat in a 10k at mile 2.5 my times went down significantly in the second half or this finish probably would have been 60-90 seconds faster. I ran the 10k in 53:56 with a pace of 8:42! My first 3 miles were just under 8:20 pace and I felt good at this pace but I can say after the first half I felt hungry and meh so I learned food at 2.5 just like in a training run is necessary. My metabolism is a little wack. I am extremely pleased since this is my first <9 race over 5k. This lines up well for me to make a <2 hour half in 2 weeks, and a <4 hour first marathon. Hoping this year to do a <25 minute 5k too but we shall see.

Awesome job!!!! :worship:

As for your fueling during the race... I too have to. Not a lot mind you, but I notice a difference in how I feel if I don't take in a bean here and there :)

Way to go!

So I tried to run last week and after my 30 minutes of being out on the track I had to come home. My knees and feet were killing me and the shin splints I had were horrible. I told my husband that I think it was time for a new pair of shoes. Yesterday we went to a running store about 1 hour from our house. They watched me walk without shoes on and recommended several shoes to try. After trying on the Saucony's and Mizuno's I felt the Mizuno Wave Riders 16. I didn't get them from the store because I didn't like the color of the shoes but ordered them online last night in the color I wanted. I'm so excited to get the shoes in and start training for the Princess Half Marathon!

I have a question for those who have run this race before. I know this course goes backstage, but how much, and will I see anything that will take away from the magic?

From what I remember (parts of the race are still a blur) there isn't very much backstage, just a little going in and out of the MK. It didn't take away from the magic for me at all, it was kind of cool to get to be 'behind the scenes'. :thumbsup2

Congrats on the new shoes and the training start. I wear ASICS Nimbus (I think I just like the Harry Potter connection) but I've been very interested in the Mizunos. I hope they are perfect for you!

Great job on the 10k! That is an impressive time. I know some people have the idea to have the Princess Half as their first race, but running other races ahead of time is so important to get those kind of kinks worked out - wardrobe, fueling, hydration, pace, etc. Best wishes on meeting your time goals!

I'm a race veteran. The fueling was a test of curiousity. I can run 4-5 without too many issues not eating I get a little drag at 4 put always pull it out. Apparently 6 is not cool on my system.

Thank you ladies for all your support. I look forward to reading about your strides over the next months and seeing you at the race!

What are you fueling with? This year GU is getting me nauseous. Not sure why. I have been using it for a few years now. Do a shot before my long runs and then every 45 minutes or so.

Was supposed to run 10 miles today and by mile 7 I just wanted to puke.
