I have a question for those who have run this race before. I know this course goes backstage, but how much, and will I see anything that will take away from the magic?

It's not a terrible amount. The first part in MK doesn't even really feel like "backstage," and honestly, you're looking forward so much to see where you're going next (because you know you're so close to main street!) that you don't pay attention to the surroundings. At least, I didn't.

The second part in MK is a little more disenchanting, because they do use it as a character spot so there's more time to stop and look, and even if you don't stop it's hard to miss the surroundings. It's the area where they store the floats for the parades. Still, it doesn't ruin the magic.

Epcot is the same as the first part of backstage MK, you're so close to the finish that you likely won't be looking anywhere but forward.

My god, what is this world coming to....just hearing about the explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Scary! My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

I am just sick to my stomach! My BIL can't find his wife. She was close to the finish. I can't even work.

Just got word. He has found her and she is ok. She was very close to the explosions. Last tracking was at 42.195K Just glad that your friend and my SIL are safe.

Praying for everyone at the Boston Marathon and their loved ones. What a tragedy on what should have been such an exciting day.

I am so sad that this happened in general. Truly a tragedy, but to have it happen at an event like this is just so sad. Add in the number of amputees that are the result...and it is just devastating.:sad2:

The world can be a cruel, cruel place.

I'm just devastated by what happened yesterday. I was at the chiropractor's...he's a marathon runner and we were talking about all our local runners at Boston...he left the room for my treatment and when he came back the word had broken on the bombings.

My heart just breaks for those families....saying a little prayer for them....so much wish it could be more...

What are you fueling with? This year GU is getting me nauseous. Not sure why. I have been using it for a few years now. Do a shot before my long runs and then every 45 minutes or so.

Was supposed to run 10 miles today and by mile 7 I just wanted to puke.

I use sports beans, and pedialyte. I don't tolerate a lot of sugars. Maltodextrin and I are absolute enemies I cant digest it due to issues with my digestive tract. Most sports drinks make me hurl too hence the pedialyte.

I am with all of you yesterday's tragedy in Boston tore me apart. My 2 friends running are ok. I had set my sights on going to boston by qualifying in the next 18-24 months. The whole situation has had me very upset. I have dropped some tears over this.

I am wearing my Princess race shirt today because it was MY Boston, and I'll be running 4.09 miles after work. As a runner, I am so outraged at what happened...here are my thoughts on it and I would love yours: http://2princessesontherun.wordpress.com/2013/04/16/heartbreak-hill/

I couldn't have said it better myself. I am so blessed to be a part of this running community. I am new to it, but I have learned that runners embrace their own, no matter what someone's level may be. I am getting over an injury, so I couldn't run as much as I would have liked, but I ran a mile in silence for my fellow runners and their loved ones. I am wearing my only race shirt today, along with some blue and yellow, for them.

Thanks, I just might have to give the beans and block chews a try. I will just need to hide them really good from my kids. They don't need anymore energy.

I'm seeing on Jodi's blog and a few others the idea of running 4.09 miles today in honor of the victims of the Boston Marathon...what a wonderful idea. The bombing stopped the clock at 4 hours 9 minutes.

Unfortunately, I'm coming off a hip flexor strain....but I will be running my 4.09 as soon as I am bodily able.

Anyone else?

Aimee
