Did my second 10k today, and in my sparkle skirt for a test run ( double use of the skirt.. Today I went as Snow White, but I'm doing belle for PHM). Anyway, it was great! Hardly noticed the skirt at all, and ran the whole way with no walk breaks!! (First time that's ever happened!) I actually had a faster time my previous 10k, but it wasn't quite 6.2 miles ..
1:02:35 6.14 miles vs today 1:04:03 6.26 miles
Both were time chipped and certified .. Guess I should just submit the first one? Not that a minute and a half will make a huge difference, really I just didn't want to be in the last corral!

Doesn't matter what a person's Garmin or self-measurement is. As long as the race was USATF certified, that's what counts.

And yes, xCourxCorexsubmit the first one. You never know what the corral breaks will be and if one happens to be 2:20, then the first time will likely bump you up a corral.

I agree submit the faster one though both at in the top 25% start location... no need to worry about the last corral.

Technical correction... its the course that is certified. The race is on a certified course and the race may or may not be sanctioned by the USATF.

Also of additional note, as long as the race is chip timed and you can provide a link to your results you really do not need to obsess about finding a race on a certified course. The reason is that if a race is chip timed the director has made an effort to measure the course and there is some assurance to Disney of course accuracy. The reason for publishing this as a requirement is that a few folks have made up data for corral placement in the past. I know one of the historic scalawags and use to rat him out every year. The guy no longer runs, or at least runs at Disney.

Both were USATF sanctioned, so that also made me think either would probably be ok to send to Disney... The only reason I knew the first wasn't quite 6.2 was looking at the course map on the USATF website.

Thanks for the reassurance all :) I'll be sending in my faster time :)

I realized I used the word "race" instead of "race course". I have a follow-up question, coach.

USATF certified only means the stated race distance is accurately measured--per their website: "A USATF-certified course is a road race course whose distance has been certified for accuracy." I am not aware of any other "USATF sanctioning". Is there something that I have missed?

Sanctioning in simple terms is a contract/insurance agreement between a race and the USATF. The contract side is the agreement to set up the course correctly and to follow the rules of the USATF for the event being sanctioned. Folks may recall the big brouhaha 4-5 years back with the USATF decided that no headphones were to be allowed. A couple marathons really lost their following for being the first few events trying to run under this rule. Another rule is that wind speed must be measured for a race where wind aiding may affect the timing....this is for point to point courses, not those that finish near the start. Finally, a distance record cannot be held as a result of a non-sacntioned event.

The trade is that for the sanctioning fee, the race is covered by the USATF insurance in case of an incident.

Disney sanctions all the half and full distance races.

I have read so much conflicting info on this. I think on this thread, although maybe it was another race, someone said their non usatf certified result was rejected. I recently injured my Achilles, and skipped a 10k I'd registered for yesterday. But I am still struggling to decide about my last certified option this Saturday. There are other non certified options in mid-November for me, but I'm reluctant to chance the non certified course. I am not in pain anymore, except occasionally walking downstairs, so I am hopeful to return to slow runs soon - I see my PT on Thursday. I emailed run Disney and didn't get a very clear answer about the certified course. The two races that aren't certified say they are chip timed and results will posted online within a few days. Is that really enough?

Eta: I also still haven't ruled out forgoing any qualifying time, due to the Achilles, but that will put me at the back of the corrals and them I fear I won't have time to stop for pictures and enjoy myself. I had trouble registering and the only time I could put in on my expected finish was 3:15, even though really I expect 2:15-2:30. So that 3:15 will dictate last corral unless I send in a time.

Question- do you think everyone who didn't give a time will be in the very last corral? I see that Disney says you don't need to send in anything if it's not 3:15 or less. My half was 3:18. My next one isn't until Space Coast which is the last day that Disney will except proof of time. I didn't know if I should send the 3:18 in or just forget it.

No - only because that would be one gigantic corral. I see them splitting the no-proof runners into a few of the last corrals. Though some folks without proof wound up seeded much higher in ToT, so you never know.

I would send something. With no proof, you really leave it up to chance. With proof, theoretically, you should be seeded appropriately. Do you expect to be much faster in Space Coast? If so, it may be worth waiting to see if you get its results in time... but be sure you send the other one that day if Space Coast isn't available!

I'm so sorry to ask this again, because I know I saw it somewhere and just can't find it. Can we change the princess we listed as a favorite for registration? And if so, how? Thanks!!

After confirmation from rD, a certified course is one that has an official time by a chip or timing device. It does not need to be USATF certified, just a searchable time that is posted online that is at a race of the distance you claim.

Completed my first 4 mile run/walk this morning! I was so excited! Only 2.2 miles left for the 10k! It is starting to feel like I may actually be able to do this. :)

Since you all are so helpful and I am a runDisney rookie, can families watch without the chear package? My husband and daughters may go, so I am trying to get a game plan in place. :)

On a side note, does anyone know where to buy the sport beans individually? I would like to try them out before I buy a big pack. :)

As always, happy training everyone! :cheer:

Thanks for looking into this! Very helpful info to know! :thumbsup2

I sent in my slightly better of the two 10ks (1:02:35) with an estimated half of 2:19:31 and it was confirmed by track Shack today :) yipeeee!

I am also a rundisney rookie, but I believe there are plenty of spectator locations that don't require a chear package...hopefully someone else can jump in on where spectators can see runners!

Sports beans are available in individual packs at sporting goods stores (I go to Dick's) or running expos. Near me they are $1.29 a pack, usually found at the front near the registers. I've actually never seen them in a big pack, where could I find those?

Is there a site where you can submit times from a 10K and it will give you estimates for a 1/2 and full marathon? I thought I saw it listed on here a while back but couldn't find it. :)

Thanks Princess V. I sent the info in today from my half. Realistically I doubt that I could shave more than 3-5 minutes off my time. In the event I do, I will send in the results.

You can get sport beans in a 24 pack. I have seen them online--e.g. Running Warehouse has a pack of 24 for $24--then you can get the 15% WISH discount and they ship free so they would end up being about$0.85 each.

Thanks for sharing this! I could not get as clear an answer from rD. My doc thinks my pain is not Achilles, but a low calf strain, so she said after 3 weeks off I can start back slowly. That would be this weekend. So I should be okay for the race on 11/16 as long as I'm careful. And now I feel safe waiting til then. Thanks again for sharing this info:)

That's because you CAN! :thumbsup2

Absolutely! I don't recommend anyone even try to cheer inside the MK; that looked like a madhouse. But they can cheer from the TTC, outside the Poly or GF along the course, in EP (which looked far less packed than the MK).

:thumbsup2 Good call. Now it's one less thing to worry about!
