Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess half marathon board)

Hey princesses!

How do the shirts run size-wise that come with our race registration? I know it's women's tech shirt, but curious about sizing. I'm typically a medium in a unisex t shirt, but a large in lady's shirts. When I made my size selection during registration, I picked medium though because the medium unisex shirt I got with the tower of terror 10 miler was huge. Much larger than a typical unisex medium, so I just assumed that maybe the lady's sizes run big too. I will be so sad if its cut small or doesn't fit me. Also, this year at the tower of terror 10 miler expo, there was a shirt exchange where you could exchange sizes (not sure why I didn't take them up on that) and I was wondering if the princess would have the same.

Thanks!

Just a heads up to anyone thinking of buying or selling bibs with other runners.....I was just told by someone who works for rundisney that this year they are going to start requiring IDs at the race start and they have to match the bib registration:( The info is supposed to be in the race packets. I guess too many people are buying and selling them and since it's not allowed they are trying to stop it this way.

Hmm...they're making a lot of "2014" changes (no discounts, no proof-of-time at the expo, etc.), so I bet if they do make this change, that they'll start with Marathon weekend, so we might hear official word in only 6 weeks. I will watch for to see what the Marathon info says - I would *love* for people to stop arguing about whether or not it's okay to sell their bibs!

I can't begin to imagine the logistics of trying to do this in an efficient manner. It's already a mob scene at the race start and it seems like it would be a huge bottleneck to try and check IDs before allowing people to enter a specific point.

I guess we'll find out soon enough....one more thing to carry!

I agree, I can't imagine how they could keep things moving smoothly while checking IDs...unless they only spot check and tell everyone to have their ID in case they're chosen?

I'm sure they (like every race) would prefer us to carry ID anyway, whether it's being checked or not.

Ok I have an idea and I need some people to tell me whether or not it is possible....

My sister and I are registered for the Glass Slipper Challenge. We will be traveling down with our mother and my friend. My mom has recently gotten into exercising and has walked a local 5k. We would like to purchase entry for the Royal Family 5k for the 3 of us for her for Christmas (and explain that we are going to walk it with her).

First of all, are you allowed to purchase more than one entry? Like would I be able to purchase one for myself and one for her? Would I have to do this in 2 separate transactions?

Second, and more problematic, we will not be arriving in Orlando until Thursday evening, most likely after the expo has closed for the day. There is no other options for packet pick up, correct? What is the process for someone to pick up a packet for me? I have several friends traveling that same weekend. Would someone else be able to pick up 3 additional packets with all the correct things (IDs and whatnot) or is there a limit on that?

Thanks so much for any help with any of this!!

I'll try to not ask any questions that have been asked already; I've tried to read most of the forum but there are sooo many pages!

This will be my first Disney 1/2 and I haven't been to Disney in over 5 years. I am running it with my sister. She is a nursing student and absolutely cannot miss her clinicals, so I have to wait until AFTER she registers for Spring classes to find out when we can fly/stay. She registers some time next week. Am I going to by completely screwed for Disney-owned lodging?? I see that most people have already booked their hotel. We are wanting to stay a few days after the race to go to the parks and would also like the convenience of having Disney shuttle us around instead of having to rent a car.

I recently (a month or two ago) registered myself and my mother for the Royal Family 5k. She, too, is only a walker, but I wanted us to be able to share part of the weekend.

I registered us both, and I was able to buy two registrations. I registered myself, and then added another runner, and put in her info. I believe, though, that it sent the confirmation for her run directly to her (since I had used her e-mail address for her registration), so keep that in mind if you're trying to keep it a surprise.

And yes, as far as I know, if you're participating in the 5k, the only option is to pick the bib(s) up at the expo on Thursday. If you want your friends to pick them up, you would need to give them your signed waivers and copies of your IDs.

What a nice gift! I have not seen a limit on the number of registrations you can pick up. As stated, you will need the signed waivers and copies of IDs. There is also a packet pickup authorization form. The waiver and form will be found on the Runner info page for Princess when available.

Since packets are handed out by number--not name--whoever picks up your packets may need to wait in three separate lines for the packet and three lines for the T-shirts.

There are still hotels available, the question is mainly can you get what you want at a good price. There is a room-only discount and also a stay/play/dine discount out there now. The real issue would be rooms for the weekend nights. If you plan to stay afterwards, the discounted rooms may be somewhat easier to come by.

Thanks! Is the package offered as part of the PHM weekend a good deal, or are there better discounts out there?

It's not the Princess package, it's just the general public room only rates or stay/play/dine. Look at WDW web site under Special Offers.

Very true to size, in my experience. I wear a 0-2 top and the XS fit perfectly - not skin tight, but nicely fitted. Mind you, I'm short, have very narrow shoulders and no chest, so I think it would be much tighter on someone better endowed, lol!

Right?! Sounds like a freaking nightmare. I seriously doubt it'll happen.

FWIW, I'm booked, but waiting on AP rates to finalize my resort; still plenty of options if you're not too picky about location!

This might be a silly question, but I don't remember if I read it somewhere! Are there pictures and/or videos you can purchase after the race? I will be there solo, so I won't have anyone to take pictures of me.

I'm so excited! We may be able to get APs this year!! I think I have finally worn my husband down. lol Now to find out everything I can about discounts.:cheer2::cheer2:

I hope everyone's training is going strong. :)

There are photographers on course and at the start/finish area to take pictures--can't remember which company, but they are not Disney phtogs (so no Photo Pass).

You will get an email at some point after the race letting you know photos are up and you can search by bib number/name.

So make sure your race number is easily visible or you may end up looking through the photo "lost and found".

Wooo! Enjoy! :cool1:

Just started my official GSC training plan this week. One week down, 16 (or 15?) to go!

Are you guys following training plans? Or do you prefer to just sort of 'wing it'? :tinker:

I just had a baby and started back this week aswell. This will be my first race back postpartum so the training plan suites me well!

Here's to week 2!!!

I live in Ireland so obviously don't have an USATF time...but official race times for here...will I be ok to submit those

Here's to racking up the miles! :thumbsup2

What I gathered from a lengthy conversation on this a few pages back is that Disney wants a timed raced with public results (ie they could look up your time online.) It doesn't need to be USATF certified, per say.

and I have 3 questions:

(1) Anyone else a cancer survivor? My friend is running the half, but she doesn't have all the lung damage that I have.
(2) I would like to get a cheer package so I can cheer her on. Any suggestions?
(3) What about the after party? Is it worth it?

Thanks! Can't wait to see everyone!

Yep, Marathonfoto has been doing them lately.

I've got a plan I put together using McMillan Running. I had to factor in the WDW Half in addition to the GSC back-to-back training so I spliced together some of the McMillan stuff with some Galloway and some Higdon, lol! Looks like this:

Week starting 10/14: steady state run, Xcountry/hills run, 6mi long run

Week starting 10/21: steady state run, tempo run, 7mi long run

Week starting 10/28: tempo intervals, xcountry/hills run, 4mi steady state run

Week starting 11/2: steady state run x 2, 8.5mi long run back-to-back with 1mi easy run

Week starting 11/11: steady state run, tempo run, 4mi steady state

Week of 11/18: steady state run x 2, 10mi long run b2b with 2mi easy run

Week of 11/25: tempo intervals, Xcountry/hills run, 4mi steady state run

Week of 12/2: 4x400m, tempo intervals, 11mi long run b2b with 3mi easy run

Week of 12/9: 6x400m, Xcountry/hills run, 4mi steady state

Week of 12/16: 2x800m, steady state run, 12mi long run b2b with 3mi easy run

Week of 12/23: tempo intervals, steady state run, 8mi long run

Week of 12/30: 4x400m, steady state run, 4mi w/ fast finish

Week of 1/6: easy run x 1 or 2, WDW Half-Marathon

Week of 1/13: 1-2 easy runs, 4mi easy

Week of 1/20: steady state run x 2, 4mi easy b2b with 11mi long run

Week of 1/27: tempo intervals, steady state run, 4mi w/ fast finish

Week of 2/3: tempo run, steady state run, 5mi easy b2b w/ 12mi long run

Week of 2/10: 1-2 easy runs, 4mi steady state

Week of 2/17: 1 easy run, Enchanted 10K, PHM!

I also do strength training, yoga, and cross-training (pilates, ballet or zumba) one day a week each, and Fridays are always rest days.

The first few weeks have been fantastic - I really love having a different purpose/workout for each run; it keeps my mind engaged and I can feel both my speed and stamina building. :thumbsup2

I'm sorry - I can't answer those questions, but wanted to say ROCK ON, survivor! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
