I have my first 10k on Thursday that I am shooting for a specific time. The whole thing is kinda making me crazy and more nervous that it should be, so I hope to regroup, ignore the clock and just do the best I can do.

I'm with you on it making me crazy :lmao:I ran my first 2, 5K's Jan 2013, One at WDW and one on Castaway Cay. I ran both in about 39min. I'm not much faster training for my 10K on Wed. But I'm a bundle of nerves because I don't run outside, only on a treadmill and I have no idea how I'll really fare out there in the heat :worried: I'm just going to try to do my best. I'm training at about a 12 min mile with 2min run / 1min walk. But I'm DONE at the end of a 10k and I have a half marathon scheduled for July 13th...YIKES :scared1: I figure I can just do the 10k and walk most of the rest of the way if I have to.

I would highly suggest you try running outside. It is a totally different animal...in a good way!

Great job on your first race ! It's always a little disappointing when you have a time in your head and you miss it, But I wouldn't say that was the case for you. You made it under 41, so that's still 40 minutes !!!! In the past my goal has just been to finish (without dying LOL) but I have my first 10k on Thursday that I am shooting for a specific time. The whole thing is kinda making me crazy and more nervous that it should be, so I hope to regroup, ignore the clock and just do the best I can do.
I didn't even make it off the couch today (bad migraine :faint:) so you are way ahead of me today :) Awesome job !

Good Luck on Thursday!!! I hope you come in at the time you want. And also thanks for the kind words about my run.

I agree, it's really important to run out on the road. It's a totally different feel and your legs have to get used to the road not being forgiving like the treadmill is.

Just checking in that my first full week of training after signing up for PHM is done! Yesterday I did a 5k distance on a concrete track. I am sort of on a c25K plan and at the moment my weekday training is about 2.2 miles. Yesterday I messed around with some running exercises and one sprint after I did my R/W splits. Felt pretty good! I am anxious to get more running time in.

Hi Princesses! Just wondering if any of you know of a really great countdown app for. Iphone5? I'd love to customize or have a Mickey or castle pic ! Does anyone use a really great Disney App for Everything DISNEY including countdown? I would love to hear your opinions'

Hello everyone, just found this thread and so glad, so much information for not only a new runner but also my first race. My dh and I signed up for the enchanted 10k, we do plan on doing a 5k or two locally beforehand and are training using the Jeff Galloway method. I look forward to learning more!

I use one called Days to Go...there is a free one and one for a fee, I have both since I'm currently counting down more than one Disney trip....And i need two more so i'd love to hear of others too! It comes pre loaded with some Disney images, but you can add your own. Mostly I use them as a visual reminder at a glance on my phone to see the remaining days so I know when I can start making ADR's. the only quirk I don't like about these though are that you must actually open the app once every 30 days or for some reason it stops counting the days. Other than that, it does the trick for what I wanted them for.

I use the Big Day Lite app. It is free and you can customize the background with images from your camera roll or ones saved to your phone from safari. The only downside is that it only lets you count down to one thing at a time.

I signed today up for a local half marathon in October. Ideally, I will be able to get my time down to around 3 hours or less and be able to submit it to Disney and not be in the last corral. If I'm not fast enough, at least I will have a lot more training in and will be better prepared for February regardless.

I found my times for my prior races. I did 3:27 in the Princess and 3:32 in the Disneyland. The Disneyland Half was pretty nerve-wracking, despite a difference of only 5 minutes. I was not as well-trained as I should have been and I must have been further back in the corrals than at the Princess. The pace people on bikes with their pace flags were waiting at the mile marker signs to put up their flags. :scared: Apparently, they ride up on bikes and place a flag on the mile marker once the 16:00 minute/mile pace has reached that mile. If you are behind it, you are at risk of being swept. :scared1: They had not posted any flags as I was passing the signs, but just SEEING them was entirely too close for comfort.

Knowing this, I am taking the training schedule much more seriously this time!

I have an app on my iPhone 4S that is simply labeled "Countdown" on the phone. It has Disney stock photos but I believe you can also use your photos. I don't remember if it was free or a small charge.

Just stopping by to say hello and join the thread. :wave2: I started a "cold feet" thread a few days ago and am happy to say I've conquered my fear and registered. I'm a first-timer with no running experience but am also very much ready for this journey. This is a wonderful thread and I look forward to getting to know you all!

I am probably one of the few gals who did 90% of training for PHM on the treadmill with the last month before the race doing long runs outside. Actually found out I was FASTER outside since I had the treadmill at an incline and think it actually helped me control speed so I didn't go too fast at the beginning and had energy left at the end of the run. You will do GREAT !:cool1:

Hey Gmom, that was me, too! Have you hula danced your way back to Texas??? :hyper:

Welcome!! The journey is a long one, but well worth it for sure!!

I find the same results if I've been on the treadmill for a while then go outside - I always stick to 12 m/m on the treadmill, and will end up anywhere between 10 and 12 outside. I do a 1% incline too. It always makes me happier when I get outside and finish faster than expected :)

I hate, hate training on a treadmill. Part of running is dealing with the elements (after all, who says it can't rain or be hot on race day?), and it's never good to encounter anything for the first time on race day (of course be smart about it - here's a fine line between mental toughness and mental madness.) I find it so boring, and just tougher to find a groove. If it's a choice between not running at all or the treadmill (like in a thunderstorm) I'll take the treadmill, but otherwise give me the heat, humidity and hills, any day!

Three weeks of training down since registering for the GSC and let me tell you it's been tough. Can't believe I signed up for this - must be crazy! :rotfl: Starting to see some improvement though. Started off at a 15:00 minute mile pace and now down to 13:30. Let's see if I can keep this up!

I also prefer outside but I'm learning to embrace the treadmill since it is safer than out alone when it's dark. And I'm from the Pacific NW so many a mile in the rain :-)

:rotfl: I'm loving all the treadmill talk... especially as I just did a blog update on my treadmill woes! You can read it here: My treadmill is a big, fat liar.

I thought I'd be stuck on it last night, but instead I got a wonderful, refreshing run in the rain! A nice rain - constant rainfall, but nothing crazy, no wind gusts, no lightning; the kind of rain we rarely see here in FL.

Me too! I never run on a treadmill - I just can't get the hang of it and am terrified I am going to hurt myself on the darn things. So, when absolutely forced inside I run on an indoor track at our local rec center. Deadly dull, but gets it done.
