Well, I took them back and the guy that owned the store took one look at my feet and got seriously mad at the guy that sold them to me. He said they were all wrong for me ( yeah, my now hurt foot and hip told me that). He said that I have some crazy skinny feet and needed to be in a 2a width and the Adrenaline's were a b. He gave me the Asics 2000 GT. So far they feel better, a little tight, but will loosen up I'm sure. Main thing is I don't feel like I am stepping on something when I walk. I might wait till Sunday to try to run in these because my foot is really hurting. Makes me pretty nervous because my first 10k is Thursday and I need a good time to submit to Disney :)

Shoe #4 - Given that all I have ran in really has been a minimalist shoe (except for last go round in the shoe hunt where I ran in a stability and got peroneal tendonitis), I was nervous to run in the mizuno wave rider 16. I tried it out and it was very light, but after I ran 18 miles in them, I was feeling pains in places I normally don't have pain... AND that tendon was acting picky. Plus my pace seemed unusual.

Can you tell me how you handled your tendonitis? I've gotten very little info on peroneal tendonitis. I find lots on Achilles, but not much on this kind. I was diagnosed with it almost three weeks ago. I was told no impact exercise, running, for at least three weeks. I was supposed to take it real easy the first week, but I have two young kids and that's easier said than done;). I'm back to swimming and biking, but still no running. I never had much pain, just discomfort. What sent me to the doctor was swelling that wouldn't go down. My doctor was not much help, wasn't athletic, so didn't get my dislike of his orders to just rest. He said its just overuse, but not much had changed in my training. No increase in mileage or anything like that. he did agree to pt, to make sure the surrounding areas are strong. I start that next week at a pt place that specializes in injured athletes. So that gives me hope. I'm a little afraid to get back to running, but I won't know how it's doing if I don't try right? Just curious about how you handled it, how long you were out, etc, if you don't mind sharing. Interestingly my favorite shoe is the one you said caused your problems, but I've had mine for a long time (months) before this started without problems.

I wouldn't count on anything loosening up--this isn't leather, it's all synthetic. You didn't say where it feels tight. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of room in the toe box, and maybe check your lacing tautness.

Don't go worrying about 10k time yet--you have til December 1 to get one.

Hope the shoes work out!

I'm sorry everyone is having such a hard time finding shoes! I had a pretty rough go of it myself! I actually ended up going to the doctor. I also ended up with one style for running and another for every day. The people at your local running store (if it's a good one) want to help you find the right shoe. Never feel weird about returning them!

Hey fellow runners quick question anybody running for fellow charities? I am thinking of joining one so I can help raise money.....has anyone ever run with a charity group?

That totally stinks! I think running stores don't always get it right...and when they get it wrong it really isn't just a "oops" situation. It usually means the runner has at least some discomfort if not an out right injury. :sad2:

Good luck with this next shoe! Remember... return it if you have to!

I am so sorry you are going through this. Any pain is not fun, but when you also have pain that keeps you from doing something you enjoy.. VERY not fun. For me it was swollen... and the pain/limping along lasted about 6 to 8 weeks. I took alieve. I iced. I used KT Tape (go to their site and there is an instructional video on how to wrap for peroneal tendonitis) I wore compression socks at night while I slept. (I found some that are meant for diabetics at walmart of all places near the pharmacy)

Honestly, I didn't take time off like I should have. I skipped a total of two training days. However, I did take it rather slow and my training didn't have me going long distances at the time. (although my first 10k was ran while limping due to the tendonitis)

So... I think it is good to take steps... R. I. C. E. The acronym stands for very important strategies for healing.

Rest as long as you can... and don't push beyond what you know you can do. For me... I didn't feel like I was doing more damage. Maybe not healing as fast as I should, but not doing more damage. For me I was fine with that.

Ice as much as you can. I was told to fill a bowl with ice and water. Then to stick my foot and and leave it for as long as I could tolerate.

Compression is I think what really helped me the most. Both the socks I wore and the KT tape helped to compress and or help blood flow to the area.

Elevate is not something I did a tremendous amount of. I drive quite a bit for work too. So while driving, I kept my foot up and extended. That however is about all the elevating I did.

I hope you heal quickly and can be back to running soon. :goodvibes

All of this shoe talk, I just stumbled upon this on pinterest: http://katierunsthis.com/2011/10/04/running-shoe-lacing-techniques/

She gives different lacing techniques for different problems (tight shoes, not-tight-enough shoes, high instep, wide forefoot, black toenails, etc.). Maybe it could be helpful to some here!

Thank you!!! I was just going to be looking for this and voila... you posted the link. :thumbsup2

I ran for Girls on the Run this spring in Pittsburgh but not for any Disney races. It was nice to feel like I was supporting a good cause but I did feel bad asking friends and family for donations. I also felt a lot of pressure that I HAD to do the race because of the charity money i raised. But I'm glad I did it and once i break this injury cycle, ill probably do it again. I'm not sure how Disneys charity groups mentioned on their site work.

:rotfl2: Of course! My family thinks I'm nuts too. I have FOUR of my current running shoe - one that I don't wear for running anymore, but can wear around the house or to the store, etc, one for running now which are almost done mileage-wise and TWO still in the box. What makes this even funnier is that I put little pen marks on the back of the shoes so I can keep them straight. DH and DS just :rotfl:

Haha, my family and friends think I'm nuts, too! I have 4 pairs of the same shoes, too, and a spreadsheet on google docs to help me track the miles on each pair. Luckily, at this point, mine are all different colors, so I can keep track of them that way, but I just bought 2 more pairs to stash as backups, and they are doubles of some of the colors I already have, so I might have to start numbering the heels. Hehe. :)

Just a reminder there is a thread started on "where you are staying for the Princess". It's on the Events/Competition front page. Michele

I ran/walked my first 5k race today. My goal was 40 min( I know that's not a great time), but I didn't make it. Close though, my time was 40:17. Now my heal really hurts. Time to rest!!!!! I still have 9 weeks til the 10k to help get me in a higher corral for the Princess.

Hi All, I just got done reading all 151 pages. WOW, took me awhile but hey loved all the info.

This will be my first run ever. My DD signed up for the half and talked me into doing the 5K with her. I have NEVER run before but I am starting out with the couch to 5k, doing pretty good.

Anyway need a little help. I could not find this info anywhere. My DH and I bought the chear squad for the half to watch our DD. We will have our grandson with us and he will be 3 years old. On the website it says 3 and under are free. Which is great. But do I need to sign him up so he can get into the tent with us or no beause he is 3? Really can not find anything on this, any help would be great!

Thanks all,

Laura

40 minutes to some people is very fast! Ive learned to aways be cautious about saying wow my time was slow as to not hurt anyone's feelings that are hoping someday to even get to that time. Good job getting out there!

Great job on your first race ! It's always a little disappointing when you have a time in your head and you miss it, But I wouldn't say that was the case for you. You made it under 41, so that's still 40 minutes !!!! In the past my goal has just been to finish (without dying LOL) but I have my first 10k on Thursday that I am shooting for a specific time. The whole thing is kinda making me crazy and more nervous that it should be, so I hope to regroup, ignore the clock and just do the best I can do.
I didn't even make it off the couch today (bad migraine :faint:) so you are way ahead of me today :) Awesome job !

That's awesome girl!! You beat me ;) I did my 5 km today with the same goal and finished 40:45... I'm sure you will rock in the 10 km - 9 wks is still plenty of time :thumbsup2

I think that 40:17 is a great time, especially for your first 5K. Congratulations!

My dad had my 3 year old son and 6 year old daughter with him last year as my mom and I ran the PHM. My son didn't have a wrist band and wasn't signed up. They were able to walk in and no one gave him a second look. No need to sign up your grandson.

Thank you so much for your answer. I was just not sure at all on what to do. This makes me feel so much better.

Man o man. My good running friend convinced me to run yet another half marathon this year. Wondering if she is trying to kill me. :rotfl: I have a month before I need to get serious about running again. Hoping to try yoga for this month and run low miles (2-4) here and there.

I decided to learn from your mistake and ordered ANOTHER pair to stash! I'm lucky (if that's what you want to call it) to need size 12's...so there are still some of the original PF 1s around in my size. They are fairly cheap (compared to when they first came out) so I just needed to bite the bullet and get some to put away.

I stashed my Saucony Kinavara 3's but everyone seems to like the 4's too. Now I've gone and tried the Brooks Connect 2 and I am in LOVE . Haven't run in them yet but amazing comfort for a minimal shoe!
