That's a good point! And no headphones allowed so I guess there'll be plenty of opportunity to chat with people around!

I thought headphones are optional??? I know they recommend you don't use them, but are they really not allowed.

At the Peachtree, they're on the list of things not allowed, though I don't know how much it's enforced.

Not for the PHM!

Hi all!

I'm a newbie (to this board, Disney races, and Disney in general)! I've never been to Disney (terribly sad, I know), but will be doing Glass Slipper in 2014!

Can't wait to poke around here a little and become a more active poster :)

Welcome!

Hey everyone! I'm also a new runner who signed herself up for the Enchanted 10k! I'm really excited but so nervous!!! I've been doing c25k and am on week 5. This is all so new to me, but it's absolutely a dream come true! I've always wanted to be a runner but didn't think I could do it. Now here I am at age 42 starting out and I'm loving it! I plan to do my first 5k in August and hopefully a local 10k in November. You folks are all so motivating and I can't tell you how I'm enjoying this thread! Keep the good info coming because I'll be here reading it all lol!

I have never been athletic in any way shape form. At 42, I was talked into running last years ToT 10 miler. I am SOOOO greatful that the person asked me to join her because it has changed my life! I couldn't run around my neighborhood then...let alone a mile..two.. or TEN  Now I run a total of just over 20 miles a week. I never thought I could do this... and now I just hope I never have to stop! :goodvibes Congrats to you! I think 42 is an AWESOME age to start!!!!

I have did the Peachtree for 4 yrs and I keep one eat bud in because I use Jeff Galloway app. It is just so much to experience during the Peachtree. DJ's, live bands, giveaways and of course wall to wall
Spectators!! My favorite thing today was hearing Jeff Galloway speak. Just not excited about that rain at all!!! But I have worn 1 ear bud most years eventhough I am too busy taking in all the sights and sounds!!

:welcome:

Can I ask what local 10K you are planning to do in November?

I'm looking at the Half Festival in Woodworth, LA November 16. We camp close to there and are thinking of making a weekend out of it :)

Ah, I came across that half when I was looking for something to do in October or November in an attempt to get a decent time to submit. I am not sure I realized they had a 10K, but I saw the location and didn't want to drive that far or need a hotel. I discovered most endurance events in south Louisiana are in December, January, and February. Smart thinking on somebody's part. :rotfl:

I ended up registering for the Gulf Coast Half; it's in Mandeville on October 20th and one of three in the Gulf Coast series. The other two are in Pensacola and Gulf Shores. The finisher's medal includes a bottle opener. :rotfl2:

One of the things that made me a little nervous about it is they cap registration at 2,000 and I've only done two half marathons - both RunDisney, so this seemed like a VERY small race. Then I read the post on here by freepixie where there were 20 people at an event and she couldn't see anyone else! :scared: I'm not sure which is worse for an event: 20 people or 60,000 people. :faint:

I entered a 10k for tomorrow that had 59 finishers last year and the slowest person was about 20-25 seconds per mile faster than my best time for a 1/2 marathon. I'm hoping to improve my time on a shorter race but I may be looking for a pair of the "dead last finish socks" that someone referred, I think on a different thread. :-)

When running in a race, do you normally stop at the drink stations or do you take the cup and continue running with your water?

I might try one ear phone then too!

I'm not excited about the rain, but at least it won't be hot I guess? :)

Ran my first 10k this morning in the rain. I did pretty well (for me) finishing in 1:05:26. The hills about killed me, so I know I need to work on those more ! It ended up being a lot harder than I thought it would be which just tells me that I really need to step up my training. Glad it's over and I now have a time to submit for the Princess :)

:welcome:

I don't think 45 minutes is a bad time for a 5K. That's 3.1 miles, so just under a 15 minute mile, which is within the pace requirements for runDisney.

The C25K plan trains you to fully run the 5K; the Galloway method (which is what runDisney uses) trains you to interval between walking and running. I prefer the Galloway method; I can't do sustained running for that long.

The Galloway method gives you the number or seconds and/or minutes you should be doing each interval, but I don't have an app or machine to beep at me at those time frames, so I just run when I feel like running and walk when I'm out of breath. I often use the streetlight poles as goals, such as "I will run to *that* pole and then walk again."

Thanks so much for the advice!!!!!!

When running in a race, do you normally stop at the drink stations or do you take the cup and continue running with your water?

I usually walk through, I haven't mastered the run and grab without spilling.
But from the few races I've done, I haven't seen anyone actually stop unless it was an unmanned table.
