Hi everyone! I went out for my longest walk/run since high school yesterday. I was just over pace, but not too bad. I can only get better!

What is the Princess Marathon rate for CB? I hope it is good!

From Jeff over on the weekly boards.

Coast to Coast is coming back, confirmed by the WDW Endurance Staff at the DL Half Expo table.

There is a discount of $15 (before Active.com service fees) if you use code RunDLRstg09 before 12/31/08 online. No mail in form posted on the Disney site.

Another code with the same $15.00 discount is RunDLR09.

You can not combine the two codes.

Thank you so much for this information! I had no idea about the Coast to Coast medal but I am definitely going to try for it now! I turn 40 a few days after the Disneyland half marathon so this would be THE perfect gift!!

Thanks again :thumbsup2

I think we're paying $175/nt. which includes all taxes. Not great, but not bad considering it is peak season. Still would love a code, though.

Yeah, I got about the same rate. If a code doesn't pop up, it will be the most I have ever spent for a Moderate.

That's what we got also. I was hoping for better. Maybe a code will come out!

I was Dick's SG today and found a Slazenger Tennis skirt in light yellow for $40. So now it is a toss up between a $40 tennis skirt or a $15 white one and then some Dyson Dye. Anyone ever dyed Tech fabric? I know it won't be as bright as cotton, but I have never bought a $40 running skirt..... hmmmm

I just saw that starting Oct. 26, we can make ADRs through March 22. Can I call in for an ADR even though I haven't even booked a hotel yet? It seems like I better start planning!

Hello Princesses! A little food for thought. Since the race is early March, all of our training will take place during flu season. I got my very first flu shot today in hopes of avoiding getting sick and really putting a dent in my training. Just thought I would mention it in case anyone else thinks it might be a good idea to get one.

I got my flu shot a few weeks ago. I have gotten one every year for the last 10 years!! I think it helps. And who wants to be sidelined with the flu while your trying to train!!...
Information from the CDC website regarding the Flu Shot...

What is the flu shot?
The flu shot is an inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus) that is given with a needle, usually in the arm. It contains three influenza viruses. The three vaccine strains – one A (H3N2) virus, one A (H1N1) virus, and one B virus – are representative of the influenza vaccine strains recommended for that year. Viruses for the flu shot are grown in eggs.

Who should not get a flu shot?
Talk with a doctor before getting a flu shot if you:

Have ever had a severe allergic reaction to eggs or to a previous flu shot or
Have a history of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS).
If you are sick with a fever when you go to get your flu shot, you should talk to your doctor or nurse about getting your shot at a later date. However, you can get a flu shot at the same time you have a respiratory illness without fever or if you have another mild illness.

How effective is the flu shot?
With the flu shot, when the "match" between vaccine and circulating strains is close, the vaccine prevents influenza in about 70%-90% of healthy persons younger than age 65 years. Among elderly persons living outside chronic-care facilities (such as nursing homes) and those persons with long-term (chronic) medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), the flu shot is 30%-70% effective in preventing hospitalization for pneumonia and influenza. Among elderly nursing home residents, the flu shot is most effective in preventing severe illness, secondary complications, and deaths related to the flu. In this population, the shot can be 50%-60% effective in preventing hospitalization or pneumonia and 80% effective in preventing death from the flu.

What are the risks from getting a flu shot?
The viruses in the flu shot are killed (inactivated), so you cannot get the flu from a flu shot. The risk of a flu shot causing serious harm, or death, is extremely small. However, a vaccine, like any medicine, may rarely cause serious problems, such as severe allergic reactions. Almost all people who get influenza vaccine have no serious problems from it.

What are the side effects that could occur?
Soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given
Fever (low grade)
Aches
If these problems occur, they begin soon after the shot and usually last one to two days.

Can the flu shot give me the flu?
No, the flu shot cannot cause flu illness. The three influenza viruses contained in the flu vaccine are each inactivated (killed), which means they cannot cause infection. Flu vaccine manufacturers kill the viruses used in the vaccine during the process of making vaccine, and batches of flu vaccine are tested to make sure they are safe. In randomized, blinded studies, where some people got flu shots and others got saltwater shots, the only differences in symptoms was increased soreness in the arm and redness at the injection site among people who got the flu shot. There were no differences in terms of body aches, fever, cough, runny nose or sore throat.

Why do some people not feel well after getting the flu shot?
The most common side effect of the flu vaccine in adults is soreness at the spot where the shot was given, which usually lasts less than two days. The soreness is often caused by a person’s immune system making protective antibodies to the killed viruses in the vaccine. These antibodies are what allow the body to fight against flu. The needle stick may also cause some soreness at the injection site. According to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), rare symptoms include fever, muscle pain, and feelings of discomfort or weakness. If these problems occur, they are very uncommon and usually begin soon after the shot and last 1-2 days.

What about people who get a flu vaccine and still get sick with flu-like symptoms?
There are several reasons why someone might get flu-like symptoms even after they have been vaccinated against the flu.
People may be exposed to an influenza virus shortly before getting vaccinated or during the two-week period that it takes the body to gain protection after getting vaccinated. This exposure may result in a person becoming ill with flu before the vaccine begins to protect them.
People may become ill from other (non-flu) viruses that circulate during the flu season, which can also cause flu-like symptoms (such as rhinovirus).
A person may be exposed to an influenza virus that is not included in the vaccine. There are many different influenza viruses. For more information, see Influenza (Flu) Viruses.
Unfortunately, some people can remain unprotected from flu despite getting the vaccine. This is more likely to occur among people that have weakened immune systems. However, even among people with weakened immune systems, the flu vaccine can still help prevent influenza complications. For more information about the effectiveness of the flu vaccine, see How Well

Does the Seasonal Flu Vaccine Work?
Influenza vaccine provides the best protection available from flu – even when the vaccine does not closely match circulating flu strains, and even when the person getting the vaccine has a weakened immune system.

Hope that helps anyone who is wanting to get the flu shot.

Tracy

Hi everyone, just letting you know i am still around -- i haven't been on my computer much at night, been crafting more.. tis the season you know! LOL

I am enjoying my new TM, and have been doing my once a week Yoga class.

We leave for WDW in 4 weeks, so i am busy getting ready for that too..

Just an FYI for everyone, i got a nice hot pink running skirt for $15 at Walmart this past spring, made by Danskin. I love it. I wore the gray one for the Minnie 5k last may. So, maybe your WM has them, or you can get them online thru Danskin somehow.

Thanks for the kick in the booty guys.... getting a flu shot was on the list of "things I need to get around to doing". And everyone knows what happens to things on that list. I have appt. for the boys, and I actually put in my planner to stop by CVS and get one for me tomorrow. DH needs one most of all, and it will be pulling teeth to get him to go get one. MEN! Further reasons to go get your flu shot - My sis is a public health RN, and in her Bird Flu training they told her that the more regular flu shots you have had in your lifetime, the less likely you will die from the Bird Flu.

I am curious to hear how everyone's training is going - I did 4 easy miles on the TM this morning, and it felt great! The best part is my fitness is rapidly improving. The 4 easy miles were at 11:30 min/miles, so I really can't wait to do some speed work on Monday - just to see how fast I can go now.

Nice.
I'm hoping to get a treadmill for Christmas. Have asked all family to contribute to my cause.
Getting ready to go to WDW for the last weekend of F & W with my oldest daughter.
I'm sure we will be discussing the Princess race and our upcoming March trip as well.
Take care,

I think my training is going well. I have not missed a day since I started officially training on Sept. 1. 3 days/wk on TM, 2 days WiiFit, one day walking outdoors and one day of rest. I plan to walk the Princess, so I am happy with how my pace is coming along when I do my outdoor walks.

Nice.

Good luck getting that TM. Mine has made a world of difference for me.

Stacey--I am glad to hear you are enjoying your TM. What did you end up getting?

I just noticed that they added Commemerative Mickey Ears to the website. Here's the info:

COMMEMORATIVE MICKEY EARS

As a participant, you have the opportunity to purchase a Limited Edition Commerative Disney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend Mickey Ears *! Mickey Ears can be purchased during registration or you may purchase now!

*Commerative Mickey Ears will only be available for pick up at Disney's Fit for a Princess Expo or the 5K and Kids' Races Packet Pick-Up. Mickey Ears not picked up at the Expo or Packet Pick-Up will not be mailed or refunded.

Anyone interested in these? I'm probably going to stick with just getting a pin. If anything, I'd rather have a commemorative tiara than Mickey Ears.

Hey everyone.

I'm so impressed all you guys are getting TMs and exercise time seems to be on the increase. Whoo!

I have created a half marathon training plan on runners world which starts in 2 weeks!!!! It looks pretty intense to be honest but i'll try to stick to it as best i can. Especially now i have winter kit includinga beautiful flashy light :rotfl: Thanks tracy for flu info- might see if i can get one as i work for the nhs (national health service) it should be free.

I'm not sold on the mickey ears for march- not sure i'd ever wear them. I have ordered the pin tho :lovestruc

IMPORTANT NEWS!!!!

FYI, they are taking ADR's now for stays through March 22. The ADR line opened early. I just called to make some of mine for that week. If you want to make ADR's, call now.

ADR's - uggg - I want to go to Jiko, but a friend of ours told DH in passing that she doesn't understand Disney Dinning. Why spend that much on food when you could buy stuff with it. DH has now got it in his head that we don't need to do anymore TS - ever. Maybe a few pleas are in order :rolleyes1 or just make one anyway.

Thankfully, my DH thinks that one of the reasons for going to Disney is the food. We make at least one ADR for every day - either breakfast, lunch or dinner. We do sometimes have two in the same day but not often. We are there for 10 nights. We have LeCellier, Brown Derby and the Wave for dinner and Kona for breakfast so far. We haven't planned anything else yet because we thought we had more time.

I'm leaving Saturday night open for a DDA meet. I know we talked about POR for pasta but haven't finalized anything for sure. Wherever others want to meet would be great for me.

Well I booked allstars movie-not a good rate $125 /weekday-$135 /weekend. I'm hoping for some code or visa offer to come. I haven't signed up to run , but I really want to. I would also like to do the DL 1/2 and earn that special metal.
