Hang on vicky- DF brought it up?!?!? That's a fab sign. Yay i might get to run with you again after all. I'm also not a massive princess fan, but do love beauty and the beast so i'll go with that!

Hey Kate!! I suspect it was a little bit of inner dialogue that just popped out :rotfl: He has a good poker face so I can't tell if he regretted mentioning it. Anyway, I told him we could just go for the weekend and then go to Washington, DC for the week to visit with our friend. I sort of want to drive instead of flying but I don't think he's into that.

Bunnyfoo: Come on, do it! You know you want to. Who really doesn't want a pink medal? My DH is walking with me. If I ever get rehabbed enough to get back to training. But I'm not dwelling on that right now.

I told my DF he could do the race too and we'd dress him up as a princess :rotfl: Kidding! I'm really pushing him to do a race before the 1/2 in January so hopefully he'll want to do the race as well.

Christine- how do you carry the clif shots? I bought some strawberry ones when i was over there for the minnie but can't work out how to carry them! Do you eat a whole block at once or nibble?

Kim wow that's one long walk. I have a feeling you're going to ace the 1/2 and i'll be thinking of you!

Lauren So proud of your 30min on TM, sorry it's tender but so pleased it's not swollen.

Did quite a good time for me tonight- 5.36miles 46 mins but i was worn out! Man how am i going to do 13.1 :scared1: Anyone else find it easier to run along main roads with lots of passing cars? embarrassment keeps me moving :rotfl:

Keep going trainee princesses! princess:

Kate, I bought shorts from RaceReady that have pockets on the outside across the lower back. Very handy for carrying all sorts of stuff, including the Shot Bloks. There are 6 shots in a package. I took a 2 hour walk and ate 3 blocks at the start of the second hour. I popped them in my mouth one at a time. I put the other three shots in a ziploc for my walk this week.

Good Job Kate.....

Christine, nope just the jelly bellys I get from Goofy's Candy Store at DTD. I find normal jelly beans aren't juicey enough so I really like these

I am a big fan of Jelly Bellys myself. That is why I was wondering about these Sport Beans. They are for electrolyte replacement. I wonder if they are as juicy as the originals...

Christine

I have tried the orange flavour of these and they're very strong. Feel a bit syrupy when you chew them rather than juicy. I seem to have a bit of an issue with sports nutrition as strong energy drinks hurt my stomach and these did too. Try them in small amounts first! I might just stick to normal jelly belly beans!

I have used the sports beans, Fruit flavored. I do not use a bunch, I just needed a bit of electrolyte replacement. I take one right before a very long distance (for me anything 8 or more - I walk so I'm out there longer than runners) then at the halfway point a take another bean with water. This have worked for me just fine. Sometimes I'll take two at the halfway point depending on how hot it is outside and how much I am sweating. I couldn't do more than that or I would get an upset stomach. Theya re a bit syrupy and not per say Juicy and there is a bit of a hint of saltiness - but then again it is an electrolyte supplement.

I was told to give those ones a try but I am always nervous about trying new things, I know what works for me and I don't like to mess with it.

I also use those beans for both walking and biking. Find that taking 1-2 with water works well for me. I prefer these as regular jelly beans just taste like sugar to me.

Thanks for the feedback on those beans. Knowing me I would probably have downed the whole package an hour into my training. Now, I know to go slowly with them if I do try them.

What is everyone doing training wise this weekend? Friday is my Wii Fit day, that will likely be a couple hours. Tomorrow I hope to get in a 10K on the treadmill and a long walk (outdoors) on Sunday.

Remember that the Sport Beans can be found at Target. I like the green ones but for me I find I can't eat them or blocks/moons while racing. I choked on a sport bean in the marathon as we went into the MK.

Figuring out what works now is what it's all about. Each person is different. I have been trying to push my racing refueling into the 'norm' of what everyone else does and that wasn't working for me. In the DL race I took my gel at the 30 minutes into the race and then every hour after that. Typically I was waiting until an hour into the race and would then fight feeling light headed or not quite right. When I took my gel this time at 30 minutes into the race and followed the 1 every hour I finished feeling great. I don't eat great before the race. I'm not a morning/breakfast person even when training. On Sat's you will catch me eating a powerbar in the 1st mile as breakfast.

By the way LUNA has Moons and they aren't that bad. They are smaller in size to the blocks. Can't remember if Target carries them. I like the Pomegrante.

And if you carry your water instead of using the belts, I use a NATHAN handheld I actually have used a White Mountain (?) bottle I picked up at the airport on my flight down and just refilled that. The handheld comes with a bottle but it's a tad bit fat so the White Mtn that has a sport lid is taller and allows a bit more room in the middle which lends more room to the pocket :thumbsup2 Anyways what I wanted to point out is with this handheld I have take a small carabringer clip but the kind that screw close and put in thru the loop of the tightening ribbon. I can take a pic if someone needs it but with the clip I was able to hook my Clif Shot gels to my handheld in the Marathon and I just gave them a slight nip of the scissors on the morning of, just to make it tear easier for eating, they already have a small nip but sometimes when your hands are swollen so i give it a nip. You don't have to nip the belt loop section that tore off just fine when i needed it. Now for the marathon i had 2 people on the course with fresh bottles and gels if i needed them.

just thought i'd toss that out there in case it helped someone.

Hope everyone's training is going well. I went for my 1st 1 mile slow walk last night. My injured tendon (curtesy of DL1/2) did fine though I had another ache LOL If it's not one thing it's another. My dr told me no running until this weekend but it seems to be good. Course I think I've been a tad bit cranky since I haven't been out to the park in 2 weeks. LOL

Have a great weekend everyone!!!! To those that have recently decided to take on the Princess CONGRATS! May you have a wonderful journey! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Thanks for your words of advice, Diane.

I am thinking of wearing a CamelBak. I have one with a larger than I'd like pack that I bought for a 3 day walk I go on each year. But, it is not "built for speed" . So, I am thinking about getting one that just holds the bladder and little/nothing else. Anyone else do this?

Does anyone have a countdown on how many days till the Princess 1/2? Almost time we can do dining reservations I think! :goodvibes

I have and use the CamelBak runners pack - mine is several years old, so that style is discontinued, but it looks a lot like this one:
http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___67677?CS_003=2477120&CS_010=67677 (note: this is the first google search that came up, I know nothing about the retailer)

I like it ok, it is a must for my long runs, I can't stand to carry water bottles, and I drink alot on my runs. I used it for TOT and Minnie Marathon. It tends to be heavy at the start, but it's not that big of a deal. The one big problem I have with it is fit. When the bladder is full, you adjust the fit around your waist and it works pretty well with no bouncing. As you drink, the fit gets looser and I have to stop running a walk a few paces to re-tighten the belt. But always having water when you want it out weighs the fit problem for me.

He hee hee. I had to post to get the countdown. 4 months 3 weeks 6 days according to my ticker - we will be arriving the day before.

Oh on my ticker it's 5 months 3weeks til we leave which is the friday before. Eeek apparently it's less than 180 days already so book away!!!!

:cheer2: You are right!!!!! Apparently my ticker was wonky:scared: . I fixed it. :thumbsup2

I can't seem to stop posting on this thread today.....

Is anyone else questioning their sanity on running this race?? I just noticed the start time change, and I am beginning to get TOT 13K flashbacks. That was a HORRIBLE inaugural race. The hour delay in the start, no corrals so walkers were in front of runners (Please note, I have no problems with walkers, I love walkers, but it is really hard to run when you are behind a group of walkers taking up the entire road. I spent the entire first 2 miles running on the grass and running zigzag like crazy. I totally blew my pace.) Then there was the awful course with the giant mud pits. And the ridiculous price of drinks at the post race party. It was actually one of the worst run events I have ever ran in. But, I have my elevator medal so all is good!!:thumbsup2

Anyway, the whole point of that was after the TOT13K, I swore I would never do an inaugural event again. Yet here I am - totally and unbelievably excited about the Princess 1/2. I can't wait!!!!

But I am beginning to get worried - Peak season race, Daylight savings change the morning of the race, and now the start time change. PLEASE get this thing properly organized Disney!

Hello all! I just added a ticker for the race. Hope it looks good!

I think I read that start time is 6:30AM is that correct???

I am really excited about doing this race.....any excuse to go to disney and I am excited:goodvibes
