Hi, I'm new to posting here but I have been reading the boards for a bit. I am fairly new to running but very excited about the half marathon next March! I could definitely use the encouragement on these boards though! I have signed my kids and hubby up for the other races as well so it will be a family adventure.

I just thought I'd let you know that if you are trying to book rooms through Disney Sports you can't yet. I tried yesterday only to be told that they don't have the information downloaded into their computer yet. I'm guessing when it's downloaded you will also be able to book rooms through the Half Marathon website? They said they would call me back or email me when they were able to process the reservations, they didn't really have any idea as to when that might be though! Also if you call the normal Disney reservation line they can't give you the room discounts.

I look forward to getting to know everyone here :) and I hope I posted this correctly!!

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

Thanks for the info....I am anxious to find out just how much it is going to cost me to be in Disney during peak season! I hope they post the info soon.

Hmm...probably should've checked that before I decided to do the race. Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound...but this means it is DEFINITELY ASMovies (or was it Music) for me. I don't mind that too much. Who knows, maybe I'll get a pin next fall that I can apply to the room? :thumbsup2

Anyway, I did my first 'real' training workout today and am sooo chuffed. I was spot on the sweeping pace. I only managed a mile (not trying to overdo it), but was just a fraction under the pace. So, with the time left for training, I'm hoping I can pull a 12 minute mile pace during the race. And I've learned something important about the tight calves issue....

After the treadmill training, my calves were SOOOOO tight they ached. I went and rode on a bike for an easy 10 minutes and by the time I got off that, my calves were actually LOOSE!! They are looser tonight than they've been in months!!! :cool1:

I felt so good that hubby and I went up and shot some baskets (played 'horse'), then spent 40 minutes playing badmitten (sp!). And, I now feel positively giddy...man...those endorphins ROCK!! *giggle*

Cheers...

I know what you mean soupy. After I finished my W4D1 (C25K) workout, I was on such a high I actually cooked dinner and cleaned toliets. (At this rate DH is going to have signed me up for every race in a 100 mile radius if I start actually cooking dinner after runs) I know I won't always feel this great during this training, but it is sooo nice to have the increased energy level. I was really turning into a slug.

I really think I've been smoking crack in my sleep, as right now I am a few evil thoughts away from signing up for the ToT 13K. I'll already be down there that down on a previously planned trip. Decisions, decisions. ;)

Robyn, it really is addicting, isn't it? :rotfl:

Welcome to the new folks! We're going to have one awesome group at this rate! Always good to be able to look forward to seeing new and old friends at the Disney races. ::yes:: :yay:

I thought that I would update you all, first thank you to everyone that emailed Disney about this.
At the moment Disney have said that I can only enter 5K's....:furious: ....I am not gonig to stop campaigning to be allowed to take part in the others, apparently a wheelchair needing the same amount of time as a runner / walker is a safety risk!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that Syko - I didn't think you were a safety risk in the Minnie. Since you did it in about the same time as me, I was on the course by you many times and did not think you were "in the way" or a safety risk. I was thinking how AWESOME it was that you actually wheeled your way to the finish in a respectable time. I also want to say that I think you are an inspiration to many :thumbsup2 and I am hoping Disney realizes that and allows you to more then 5ks. My thoughts are with you and your family!!!

Thank you TnT'sParty.

The route for the 5K is the same as the Minnie, around Epcot clockwise, starting and finishing in the left hand rear car park.

Hi everyone! sorry i am MIA last week -- seems with a bit of "summer fever" here (temps in mid to high 70's) i am outside as much as possible...
I will update the list tomorrow, it's supposed to rain..LOL

I have been slacking on the training, but i need to kick it up into high gear now... 9 months to go.. (Geez, where have i used THAT countdown before... LOL )

Syko -- that's stupid.. i am so sorry to hear about that.. hopefully the powers that be will get their heads together about this!! :(

Well, I was considering signing up for this and was really hesitant because I didn't know anyone else that was running. However if Diane is going to be there with at least one of her Pals then I think I will have to sign up.

I am starting from couch potato status. Once a year, I run/walk a 5k with no training. I was a runner in high school but did the sprints. However, I've been looking at many different training sites and I know I can do this if I commit to it. I've overcome my last hurdle (not knowing anyone else in the race).

This is the week that we go to Disney every year anyway. It doesn't affect our travel plans at all other than adding two extra days at Disney. We usually leave on Saturday but will leave on Monday instead.

I want to run the full marathon in January 2010. I've considered running a marathon and have decided I want to set a goal of running it before my 50th birthday. That is November of 2011.

Sorry Vicki!!! I've been MIA for a few weeks, life in general has been annoying and you know it has to be if Susan (mousemgr) is posting here more than I am LOL

Yes, Susan and I will be going down for the Princess weekend. Of course I will have to do the 5K too.

My motivation for doing the 5K too, it's a blast. I enjoyed running thru Epcot so much during the Minnie 5K that I was grinning from ear to ear. Usually by the time in a race I hit Epcot I'm too tired to care. Epcot is wonderful to run around and at the very least it will be my 'get out and stretch those legs' before the Half. ;)

More later as I'm at work and lunch is now over ;) Can't wait to see you there!!! This will be the 1st time we're both at WDW at the same time!!! How cool that is going to be!!!

Oh and most likely Miles won't be running in the Half as I am trying for personal record both in Jan and March LOL The 5K, just depends on my mood and the temps.

Does anyone have a link that shows the route for the Princess 1/2?

I am new to all of this. In some ways, it is not my thing at all. I am overweight and out of shape but battled cancer last year and was not expected to make it until Christmas and now I'm cancer free.

I'm a Disney fanatic and princess so the thought that the inaugural event was in March just said to me that it was my Disney destiny! I've got a walking 1/2 marathon guide that has nothing to do with speed. It's a 13 week plan. I guess I'm going to do that just to work up to the distance and then work on the speed after that since there is plenty of time? The pacing requirement makes me nervous.....

Welcome wannabebelle! The course for the Princess half is a new one, I don't know if it is posted on the official website or not. A lot of us have used John Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals (MfM) to train with. It is a 14 week program to walk, walk/run, run/walk, or run a half. It is definitely doable. You want to begin training to train by regularly putting in some steps. I started out walking three times a week for 30 minutes. The rule of thumb is to not increase your mileage by more than 10% per week. As you become more comfortable you can begin to think about your pace, you still have plenty of time to get prepared for the 16mpm requirement. You can find lots of helpful information in the welcome sticky at the top of the page, and plenty of way more experience folks than me on the weekly thread. You can do this! And what better motivation than a trip to Disney and some fabulous Princess bling?? At least that's my excuse!!

Just wanted to wish you a happy training---your post gave me goosebumps. Wishing you every success and continued good health. :)

One more thing, there is a direct link to the official Princess website in the welcome sticky.

  Glad to have you on board. You have plenty of time to work on the pace requirement. You are right in working on the distance first and then work on speed. :goodvibes

I just signed up!

A little background on me. I am a couch girl, a fan of all things potato and never met a piece of chocolate I didn't like. I would never have run anywhere even if I was on fire and being chased by wolves!

A little over a year ago I decided to change my life and I had gastric bypass surgery. It took a year but I lost 110 pounds. I work out 4-6 days a week.
I have been walking on a treadmill for months at the Y and I do it at a steep incline as fast as I could stand it. On a lark I decided to see if I could run, I was actually scared to run and waited until late at night right beofre the Y closed when there was hardly anyone there. I had visions of tripping and falling off the thing. Not only did I not fall off I was able to run. I started running a modest amount every time I worked out. On a lark I decided to see if I could run a 5K there is an option for that on the trreadmill. I did it. I was so shocked that my body would even allow me to run that far. It was at a slow pace but I got through it. Then I heard about a 5K in my town 5 weeks away. I started to run a few days a week but always on the treadmill. I knew I needed to get on pavement but schedule just didn't permit it. Fast forward to race day. I was so nervous I felt like I was going to throw up and my hands were shaking. I was at the back of the group when everyone started but I kept my slow and steady pace. It was not easy but I finished it. I actually ran a 5K. It was a lot harder on pavement which I had been warned about. So that gave me the confidence to do something bold....

I decided that I wanted to do the Disney Half Marathon in January but learned that it was closed already. Then I heard about the Princess Marathon, I got excited and scared at the same instant. 13 miles is a looooong way but I don't have to tell any of you that.

I am not going to let myself be scared but rather to let you all inspire me and I might be the last one but I am going to finish that course. I had a nightmare about the 5K right before I ran it. It was that typical nightmare of not being able to run, everything in slow motion I got so frustrated I started to walk on my hands to get myself going forward so I know that I might finish the race running, walking or on my hands and knees but I will finish!

Way to go Lisa on all that you have already accomplished!! :cool1:

Wanted to let you know that the nightmare thing stays around. Just don't let it keep you in bed on race days :thumbsup2 You will get them the night before, a week before or months before LOL I had a nightmare dealing with the Marathon LAST June. 6 months before my race I started having nightmares. Typically i have them a week or so out  usually Susan and I share them and have a good laugh over them. I've had one where I was running lost in DL's half and next riding a float with Susan yelling at me to get off or I wouldn't qualify for a medal LOL

13.1 Miles is a long way. And frankly I've finished it and am still amazed aftewards and still scared before. But it's Disney and here's a tip. Think of those places you will be running thru. Visualize yourself running thru the AK park, running thru Hollywood Studios, going thru Epcot and SEE yourself crossing the finishline. Always always always have positive thoughts. While training and doing the race. Always keep in mind you CAN do this. Your training now, keep it up, stay positive and have the bestest race ever!!! :cheer:

I use visualization a lot. Poor Wendy probably doesn't know it but she did 4 miles last night with me. LOL I will picture one of my team mates and either run to them and imagine them next to me pushing me thru.

You CAN do this. Put in those miles and keep training. Oh and again I totally know what you mean about being scared. I just did the Minnie 15K and was probably the most unsocial WISH member sitting in the midst of the group probably turning green in complexion. I was so nervous I was making myself sick. Anne took a photo of me and team mates and I'm sitting there with my hand over my mouth. LOL No rhyme or reason why but I was MORE nervous for the Minnie than the Full Marathon. It happens. Train and do the miles and you'll get thru it.

Too all those I haven't met yet WELCOME!!! Sorry I've been MIA for the last 2 weeks but really honestly since January LOL I've been a bad bad girl this year.

Welcome LisainNc-- You have accomplished so much already, I have no doubt you are going to KICK MAJOR BUTT!! :thumbsup2

I signed up for the ToT 13K, are there any Princesses doing the 13K? I figured I'm already going to be down there on a trip, and it would be good Disney race experience. Oh yeah, I'll be dragging myself across that line for my 1st medal. :rotfl:

I am!! I am going to be in WDW at that time anyway for a family reunion and by extending the trip one day I will be able to do the ToT 13K. And....my DSonIL, DD, and DSon will be walking it with me! I just have to whip them into shape by Oct.
