I hope an experienced racer can help me out here. I know that strollers are not allowed on the 1/2 but what about the family 5K?

I would love to run with my DD but her son will only be 10 months old at the time and I don't think she would be comfortable with a babysitter while we run. Is it possible to keep the pace with stroller?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Per Active.com's reg page for the 5K:

Eligiblity:
All ages are welcome to participate. If you are entering the 5k Stroller category, you may have your children (under age 3) in a stroller or baby jogger.

Safety:
For everyone’s safety, bicycles, inline skates, skateboards, headphones, and animals will be prohibited on the course.

Strollers and Baby Joggers
Strollers and baby joggers are permitted on the 5K course and must start at the back of the pack.

So you will get to have some fun!

Would love to join in! My friend and I will be running the 1/2. Our husbands and children, and hopefully both of our moms will be with us!!! We're all staying at the Poly, going to book tomorrow morning! Neither one of us have ran in races before, but we're doing this in honor of a dear friend that we lost to cancer 1.5 years ago. She was the perfect princess, who was somehow able to run full marathons even while taking chemo.

Quick question, I was confused when signing up, I only purchased a P&PP ticket for myself, how can I purchase more for my family?

Does anyone know if the race discounts are worth waiting for to book hotel rooms? They haven't notified me that their information has downloaded yet to book rooms with the race discount. (It also doesn't allow for travel to be booked from the race website, which it does for the January marathon weekend and this makes me think it isn't available yet!) I would love to just get them booked and done with but also would welcome any kind of discount!

Thanks for your help! We've only been to DW once so this is still new to me!

I use visualization a lot. Poor Wendy probably doesn't know it but she did 4 miles last night with me. LOL I will picture one of my team mates and either run to them and imagine them next to me pushing me thru.

Diane, you are too funny! Real or imagined, I'm sure I had a good time if I was running with you!

Hi there! I'm planning to sign up for the race this week. Can't wait!

I think I've convinced my running partner to sign up, too, and we'll stay offsite at a family member's timeshare. I'm so glad to see that it's not TOO crowded at that time of year.

My running partner and I did the CoolRunning C25K program starting in Nov07 and completed a 5K in Feb. Thoroughly bitten by the running bug, I convinced her to sign up for a June 1 10K, which we both completed last weekend (we used a 10K training program from About.com). Now I have her signing up for a 10 miler in October and I've alllmooost convinced her to sign up for the Princess 1/2. We're great motivation for each other and we have kids the same age with similar school schedules, so we find planning pretty easy. But she runs a lot faster than I do, so we don't get to chat as much as I'd like. So, wish me luck convincing her!

Thanks for starting this group. I'll check in when I've officially signed up.

Margaret

Quick question, does anybody know if you registered for the race, but didn't get a P &PP ticket, can you still buy one?

I have a friend that has registered and forgot about doing the ticket to the P&PP. Just trying to help her out.

Thanks! :)

Hi all!!! I am still around!! Just been a busy last few weeks -- end of school stuff, beautiful weather, moving rooms around in the house... etc.

But, things have settled down now, dd is out of school, and i start my new summer hours as of tomorrow (M-Th 9am - 12noon) and get friday, sat and sun off but get paid the same since i am on salary ( i am a chuch admin. assistant) so life is great for the next couple months! LOL And we are doing the Disney cruise (5 night double dip) for labor day, so i am looking forward to that too.. Although i don't want to wish away the summer!!!

I haven't been running much since the Minnie 5k, but need to get back on track now.

I hope i have everyone now listed, please check the first post over and make sure you are listed in the right place.. if anything needs to be updated, please lmk. :)

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hi everyone :)

I am thinking of doing this, just waiting on my friend to hear if her husband will let her come with me. :) This would be the first one for both of us. I have a question that I'm sure is silly but I can't find the answer so I'm going to ask. How does registering as a team benefit you? Does that mean your numbers are placed together?

TIA :)

OMG! I did it! It was tough to click that last button, but I am registered and need to get my rear in gear so that I haven't wasted any money!

Oh yeah. I registered for the 1/2. I don't know where I'll be staying. Probably whichever value resort is the one getting transportation.

Welcome! I also had trouble clicking that final button. I also have to get in gear so that I haven't wasted my money! I have told all my friends so that they stay on me!

I did it!! My friend and I signed up :) Neither of us have ever done anything like this before so I am a bit freaked but very excited!!! :cool1: :thumbsup2 :hyper:

My last trip to Disney was this past January with my goddaughter - and I had to use an ECV most days to get around the parks because of my back (and endurance). I am very overweight, and among other things it's taken a heavy toll on my back.

It's been a year long process (necessary to get my insurance to approve it), and barring any last minute complications, it looks like I'll be having gastric bipass surgery in August.

My dear friend who's 13 years older than I am (I'm in my 40's, she's in her 50's) has had a liver transplant, and is in incredible shape - and has been trying to drag me around to be more active for years. I even went with her to Australia a year and a half ago to watch her compete in the transplant games. We made an agreement: 6 months or so after my surgery we go to the next 5k (which she loves) at Disney (which I adore).

My big goal is to make the pace and finish. Not lofty, I know. But I have so far to go. :hyper:

Anyway, we've been talking about this, and getting into the spirit. We can both be kind of silly. So I'm wondering...if we were to throw a little, tiny bit of organza over our running shorts, and maybe sport - oh, I don't know - say a tierra...would that be completely out of line? :rolleyes1

Withacy,
Wow, what a story your friend has! And it sounds like you are in the process of writing your own amazing athletic adventure. That's great that your surgery is finally a go - I hope it all goes as smoothly and safely as possible for you. :thumbsup2

I think the Princess 5K at Disney will be a great thing for you to look forward to during your recovery. Your goal is a fine one, and one that has been shared by many before you. Finishing really IS a lofty goal.

Regarding costumes, if you are nuts, so are a lot of others who will be at the race, I'm sure. Your costume sounds downright sensible compared to some I've seen at the two Disney races I have been to - Tower of Terror - wow! and the Minnie Marathon weekend had its fair share of costumes and partial costumes as well. I would venture to guess that there will be a hearty number of tiaras on the course, so embellish yourself to your hearts content!

Thank you, corinnak.

My friend is my inspiration. Because she knew for 20 years that she'd eventually need to get a transplant, she kept herself in really good shape. She was up and walking within 24 hours, and out of the hospital in 5 days. Even though she's on immune suppressant drugs, I get sick far more often than she does. And she competed in her first transplant games 6 months after her surgery.

Going on the trip to Australia with her was amazing. I met a lot of great people, and because they were so accepting (given their own scars and body issues), I did things I never would have otherwise been unselfconscious enough to do - like snorkeling on the Barrier Reef. It was that trip that reminded me that a long time ago, and a smaller body that is now far, far away, I used to like to DO things. It was that as much as my health issues that help me make the decision to go ahead and have the surgery.

And then the NEXT trip (after the Princess race trip), I'm saving my pennies for surf lessons at Typhoon Lagoon!
:woohoo:

I am all signed up and have kinda started training. I am still looking into where to stay, but getting excited about the race. I am having trouble finding time to train but I'm determined to do this.
