Hi All-

I've switched resorts so many times for my upcoming trip that I feel like I've already been around the world! Can anyone tell me about the Poly? I am considering concierge (you only live once, right?). Is it worth the extra money? Is the food pretty much "snack stuff", or could you get away with planning to eat breakfast there each morning? I am so torn!!! HELP!!!

Also, I have seen that there is a website devoted to the Poly. Does anyone know the address (I never paid much attention to it because I thought I had my trip all figured out!).

Thanks!
Erin:)

I believe this may be the link you are looking for. I live on this site since I have FINALLY decided that the Polynesian is where we are staying this time lol. I say that now but December is a long way off--I may change my mind AGAIN lolhttp://tikiman2001.homestead.com/index.html

We stayed Poly Concierge last September because we got a GREAT rate. I don't think it's worth $100 extra per night, but that's just my opinion. If money were no object, I'd stay Concierge every visit.

At breakfast, we light eaters had enough food -- bagels, toast, danish, juice, coffee, etc. During the day it is usually just snack foods like cookies and gummy worms. In the evening a light eater could make dinner out of the choices -- one night we ate cheese, fruit, veggies, and a few hot hors d"ouvres. The access to water bottles was great -- we took some with us everytime we left the hotel. The staff was nice and attentive. We had our PS set before we arrived, but the Concierge staff helped us change a few last minute. We had a FABULOUS time at concierge, but I am not sure it's worth so much extra money.

Tikiman's Poly site is www.tikiman2001.homestead.com/index.html and has LOTS of info.

I am in the same boat as you as far as switching resorts:D One resort I knew I wasn't going to switch was the Polynesian. I love it there. Now we have been spoiled by concierge and that is the only way we stay there. Concierge costs about $75 more dollars and for our family it is well worth it. I have a link to why we love it so much. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75652&highlight=polynesian+and+concierge Even if we didn't have kids I would still do concierge. To me it's the whole package and I think it is a good deal for $75 more. We will be there in July:D We will be there for at least 5 nights maybe more if I don't keep changing our reservations;)

I would go for it. If you just add it up $$$ wise it may work for you.
You get a minibar fridge that costs everyone else $10 a night.
You can really fill up at breakfast. For my family olf 5, a breakfast at a restaurant can easily be $40 if we are lucky--more for a character meal.
Bottles of water and pop that are $2.50 each or more are free in the lounge. We usually get at least one bottle per person per day and fill it up when it is empty at the parks--sometimes we get more.
True that the evening food is not a "Meal" per say, but depending on the selection we usually get one nights dinner out of it. Plus they have 'uncrustables" for the kids--a box of 4 at Kroger is $2.59.
We've done garden view concierge twice and this time are spending two of our vacation days at lagoon view (one is my BDay). I plan on spending most of those 2 days at the resort!

Thanks everyone!!! I think I may take the plunge! The website is FANTASTIC!!! DH and I will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary (without DD) and we really want a romantic atmosphere.

I have e-mailed the link to my DH... keep your fingers crossed!!!

Hi,

For breakfast they have cold cereals, oatmeal, bagels, english muffins, danish, mini muffins and fruit. You could definitely eat breakfast there every morning. In the afternoon they have cookies. At 5:00pm they have wine, cheese and crackers, fruit and specialty dish. For the kids they have candy and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, sometimes other sandwiches too. Then at 8pm, they have desserts, fruit and cordials. They always have water and soda out. You need to ask for milk, chocolate milk and juice boxes. They also have coffee and tea. I guess how many people you have and how often you will utilize the lounge will determine if it was worth it for you.

We just got back from a week at the Polynesian concierge. We had lagoon view - which was the Hawaii building room 2505. We were just 5 doors down from the concierge room so it was very convenient for us.

We have a 3 yo DD and a 7 yo DS so concierge is great for our family. It's so nice to not have to rush out to breakfast and wait in line. We ate most of our breakfasts at the lounge. I LOVE the pineapple bread, and the kids loved the fruit and muffins. DH loves the danish. Also all the milk & juice you can drink.

During the day we would stop in for drinks - water, soda or milk - and some sort of snack. I loved the raisin & oatmeal, choc. chip & sugar cookies. The kids loved the gummie worms. We also drank lots of lemonade.

A couple nights we ate enough there to serve as dinner. Chicken wings with sauce, potato salad, fruit, veggies & dip, chesse cubes, etc. Again, as much as you want to drink.

The desserts at night were quite good! Various little tarts. They also had different bottles of alchohol but we're not drinkers.

The conceirge staff was quite nice and they made some PS's for us. They also let you borrow strollers on a first come-first serve basis.

We liked having a private building where you could only gain access with your card key.

Our room had a view of the castle and we were able to watch the water parade every night from our room or from the beach.

It was worth the extra $$ for our family.

If by "Is it worth it?" you mean "Will I save money?", the answer is "probably not". If you want to save money, go shopping between airport and resort and get some bagels, peanut butter, orange juice, or whatever you want for breakfast. Even with $10 for a fridge you will pay less than concierge.

If by "Is it worth it?" you mean "Will I regret spending this much?", the answer is also "probably not", at least not if you get a decent rate. I agree with disneyag that I would not pay $100/night extra for it (though obviously a lot of people do). Last year we got a great rate and only paid $50 extra. That was *definitely* worth it, and we may have actually saved money. But even $60-$80 extra could easily be "worth it" if you think of it as splurging a little.

I just wanted to add a few 'costs' you save with concierge...

We paid for a garden view, but enjoyed the beautiful, huge window overlooking the beach, castle and lagoon any time we wanted in the lounge.

We had a small TV in the room, but a big screen TV is in the lounge.

There were sandwiches out most evenings, and they would offer to wrap them up for snacks later on.

If you enjoy a glass of wine in the evenings, concierge has several wine offerings each evening.

If you are a last minute planner, enjoy the service of getting you PS, sometimes difficult ones, from the concierge staff.

The 'fridge was used by us to store soda and bottled water. We tend to drink a lot on vacation.

Enjoy!

I found a discount code out here from mousesavers.com and after I changed my reservation to concierge GV, my package went down $200!! You can hardly beat that! I plan on taking advantage of the water & cookies while we are at the pool in the afternoons. And of course breakfasts. We leave in 9 days, I can't wait!

Well, we have stayed at The Poly, but not concierge. This trip we have decided YES. This trip will be the last “big” trip with my oldest heading off to college. I am looking forward to the overall concierge experience. While the availability of snacks and water are a nice perk, I am looking forward to a relaxing vacation. With the kids being older, the availability of concierge help, private building and so-on hopefully will take some of the stress out and allow us to enjoy and yes, pamper ourselves a little before tuition!

By the way, does anyone know if the chocolate chip cookies in the concierge lounge are from The Toll House Bakery on main Main Street in the Magic Kingdom? This would be just too much for my daughter to handle…lol. :jester:

I staying one night concierge at the poly before going over to the BWI....I just lost 6 pounds, have 22 more days to lost 5 (probebly will never happen) but now knowing the cookies at toll house there goes my weight lose, I just can't wait. Once you do concierge you are spoiled for life and you go back for more. I have heard so many positive things about the poly I can't wait. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
